September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: William Franklin Stewart of Pioneer in Shoal Creek township, was born in Williamson County, Texas, April 18, 1861. His parents moved to Barry County in June 1868, and in November of the same year his family moved to near Newtonia and resided there until Sept 12, 1881, and then moved to his present home near Pioneer, Jan 16, 1881,he and Miss Maggie Privette of Newton County, were united in marriage, to whom have been born ten children, six girls and four boys. Mr. Stewart was elected County Judge from the western district in 1900, and served his people well. He is a member of the Christian Church; and Odd Fellows; and is a Democrat and farmer.

September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Horatio Orson Cornman of Jenkins Township was born near Troy, Madison County, Ill., Oct 23, 1843, and came to Barry County in 1872 and located where he now lives. On April 3, 1887, he and Miss Amanda Hudson of that section were married to whom has been born one son. Mr. Cornman was twice nominated by by the Republican party of this county for collector and although defeated he received more votes than some candidates on the Republican ticket who were elected. He is a member of the G. A. R. and is Commander of Capt. J. S. Babb Post 461 of Jenkins. Mr. Cornman is a prominent farmer, has a splendid farm and is doing well. |

Short Biography of the Grand Jury: M. C. Lucky of Cassville was born in Texas in 1859, and remained there until 1866, when his mother moved to Lawrence County, MO, where he remained until 1883 and was engaged in farming. He graduated from the Missouri State University in 1880. He moved to Exeter in 1883, after which he taught school for four years. He then engaged in mercantile pursuits and was very successful. In 1897 he and Miss Nora McMahan were married to whom have been born three sons. In 1906 he moved to Cassville and engaged in the hardware and implement business. In politics he is a Republican. He is a member of the M. E. Church South, a Mason and Odd Fellow.

September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Samuel Gilmore of Mano was born in Broson, Mich., Jan 28, 1851, and lived there until 7 years of age, when his mother died and his father moved to Osceola Iowa, and in 1863, they moved to Chillicothe, MO, where they resided until 1869; when they moved to where he now lives on Rock Creek, in this county. In 1876 he and Mrs. Mary F. Wise were married to whom three children have been born, only one of whom is living. Mr. Gilmore was postmaster ten years and is justice of the peace on his third term, and has married 49 couples. Sam is a rather noted person, as he is only four feet in height, weights 85 pounds, wears a 7 3-8 hat, and number 4 shoes. He is a successful farmer and is doing well. Many years ago he hauled lumber from the pineries in Arkansas to the northern counties and in fact has done almost all kinds of work. He has received many offers from circuses and showmen to travel and exhibit himself, but he turned them down on account of having his family and business matters. |

September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Benjamin F. Hill of Shell Knob township, was born Dec 3, 1858, in Livingston County, Missouri, and remained there until 25 years of age, when he came to Barry County, 25 years ago, and has since made it his home. He was married Oct 11, 1882 to Miss Dona Huff, to whom three children have been born. Mr. Hill owns three farms in Shell Knob township, comprising 640 acres, and is well to do farmer and enjoys the confidence and respect of everybody. He is a member of the M. E. Church, South, and is a "moss-back" Democrat. |
September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Walter Tennent Sallee of Liberty Township was born in that township on the farm where he now resides; Dec 1, 1875, and has always lived in this county. He was married Dec 26, 1902, to Miss Fannie Hollabaugh of Fayetteville, Ark. They have two children, Walter is about a thoroughbred Barry County citizen, as his father and Mother Jasper Sallee were born in this county. Walter's great-grandfather, Thos. Tennet who lived in Washington County, Ark., lived to be 114 years of age, and preached in Missouri when it was a territory. Walt is justice of Liberty township and is a strong believer in Democrat principles. |

September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Dewitt N. Jewett of Monett was born Sept 9, 1849 Union County, Ohio and lived there until 6 years of age, when his parents moved to Schuyler County, MO, where he lived until he moved to Monett, Barry County, MO. He was married to Miss Allie C. Ballenger of Schuyler County to whom have been born two children. Mr. Jewett was a delegate to the Democrat Nation Convention that nominated Grove Cleveland; was Circuit Clerk and recorder of Schuyler County, MO, for twelve years; and government cattle inspecting for eight years. Mr. Jewett is at present justice of the peace of Monett. He has been a resident of this state for fifty-one years. He is a member of the M. E. Church, South, and a Democrat from away back. |
September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: James Alexander Roller of Washburn township, was born July 30, 1857 in Benton County, Ark., (now laugh). In the year 1850 his parents moved to McDonald County, MO, where he lived 16 years and traveled four years and in 1868 he came to Barry County and located. In 1880 he and Miss Polly A. Eden were married and eight children were born of this marriage, five of who are living. Mr. Roller has a good farm in Washburn township of 12 acres and enjoys the respect and confidence of all his acquaintances. He is a progressive farmer and is getting along well. He is a member of the Baptist Church and a great worker in religious affairs. Mrs. Roller is a Democrat and believes in doing the greats good to the largest number. |

Spain of Kings Prairie Township was born Jan 17, 1864 in Green County, MO and lived there until 11 years ago when his parents moved to Barry County, MO, and located on Flat Creek, 7 miles, northeast of Cassville. He was married in 1882 to Miss Lena Saunders of this county to whom have been born three children. Mr. Spain is a progressive farmer and is making the best of life in every way. He is a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason and the A. H. T. A. He is a believer in Republicanism and we wish he would change his politics. |
September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Wilson Lane of Purdy was born Jan 26, 1847 in Madison County, Ark, and lived there 11 years and then his parent moved to near Fayetteville, Ark, where they resided 7 years and in 1866 they moved to Barry County, MO, and located on Stone's Prairie and he has lived in that section ever since. He and Miss Eliza Long were married to whom where born 10 children, 7 of whom are living. Mr. Lane is a very successful farmer and owns 1100 acres of land and has handed hundreds of cattle. He is a strong believer in good cattle and now has 18 head of short horn cattle and is a breeder of of thoroughbred Berkshire hogs. He is a progressive farmer and has been very successful. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church and a Republican, we are sorry to say. |

September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Cass Jeffries of Scholten, Crane Creek Township, was born Dec 29, 1879, at Gadfly now Corsicana, and has lived in this county all his life. Cass attended the Cassville and Purdy high schools and afterward successfully taught school through the county. He is now conducting a general mercantile establishment at Scholten under the firm name of J. C. Jeffries & Co., his father being senior member of the firm. Cass has recently appointed postmaster at Scholten by the present administration although he is a staunch Democrat. Religiously speaking he is a Baptist. |
September 7, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO A Short Biography of the Grand Jury: Christopher C. Fawver of Seligman was born Jan 26, 1857, in Hancock County, Ill, and in 1866, his father moved to Barry County, MO, and located near Seligman, where Chris grew to manhood. He worked on the farm until 1879, when he entered the State University at Columbia, where he graduated in 1888, receiving the degree of S. B. and C. E. After graduating he returned to Seligman where he clerked in a store for five years and then engaged in business for himself. In 1879 he and Miss Clara B. Hemingway of Winnebago County, Ill., were married by whom have been born one son and two daughters. In August, 1905, he was the im__ag spirit in the organization of the ___ Bank of Seligman, and was ___ cashier. He is a very successful business man and is so recognized by the business world. He is a Republican. He was appointed foreman of the grand jury. |
