Nov 10, 1910, Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO Local & Personal: My mill one mile down Flat Creek from Cassville is now in operation. Will grind every day. We make meal and chops. A. L. Galloway Letters addressed to the following parties are advertised at the Cassville postoffice: Mrs. Emma Summers, Albert Bush, Frank Shoemate, Charley Thomas. Claude Bayless, son of G. G. Bayless of Webb City has been visiting his grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bayless, northwest of town. Thomas Bowman's household goods arrived Monday and has moved to the Haddock farm he recently purchased on Roaring River. Mr. and Mrs. Gage and Mr. and Mrs. Withy of Mason City, Ia., who have been visiting Howard Funston and family returned home Friday. Mrs. W. K. Dow of Pierce City, mother of W. J. Dow, spent Sunday in Cassville and attended the dinner given at Mr. and Mrs. William Hawk's. Booth Lowery entertained a large crowd at the opera house Thursday night. This was the second number of the Lyceum Course. The next number will appear in December. Thos. J. And Rollin Talbert, F. A. Meador, Clarence Hankins and Orland Swindle came in from Columbia Friday to remain until after the election. E. Twillegear north of Cassville on Flat Creek was showing in Cassville Friday a sweet potato that weighed 9 pounds and 3 ounces. Another large potato grew in the same hill. This potato should be sent to the exposition at Chicago the latter part of this month along with a fine collection of Barry County products. It shows how Barry County soil grows potatoes. Z. L. Roberts has traded his 20 acre farm one mile southeast of town for the B. W. McCandless stock of groceries and has taken charged of the store. Mrs. A.G. Walker and little daughters, Misses Gretchen and Katherine visited here the latter part of last week. Horace Allen and Fred Black went to Springfield Wednesday of last week in Horace Allen's automobile. Miss Jewett LeCompte, a teacher in the Carterville high school, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. LeCompte from Friday to Sunday. Mrs. James Elrod of Carterville has been visiting her father, Doc James, and brother Chas. James. She is in poor health. Walter Pendergraft and Dave Brewer were here Saturday. They took a handsome monument to the New Salem cemetery to be erected at the grave of Daniel Pendergraft. W. M. Adams did the monumental work. Grant McKee the Viola miller spent Sunday night in Cassville. Dan Anderson is in from Texas visiting his father, J. J. Anderson. Hurl Allred an employee in the express office at Monett was placed under arrest last week charged with taking packages from the company. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Gump and children of Kansas City are visiting Mrs. Gump's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Jones, east of town and other relatives in the county. Fay Liford has fever at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. W. Turner. Mrs. W. H. Martin who has spent several weeks at Pioneer came home Friday. M. H. Roberts a Golden merchant spent Friday night in Cassville. Married at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage in Cassville at 7 o'clock Wednesday, Nov. 9, J. R. McFadden and Miss Nellie Wash, both of Carthage. Eld. W. M. Calfee solemnized the marriage.

Nov 10, 1910, Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO Forest Grove We extend our sympathy to our old friend Amon Hagler of Monett in the death of his wife. One new case of diphtheria at Mr. Crawford's. Mrs. Warren is in a better state of health she can visit friends some. We are sorry to lose J. T. Cook and family they were good neighbors. Miss Florence Morgan of Mt Sinai visited Miss Chloe Plummer Sunday and Sunday night. Grandma Sharp's condition is still very serious, the cancer on her face bleeds a great deal. George Tuner and wife o Idaho but formerly 0f this county are visiting friends near hear. We understand that Mrs. Greenwood has bought property in Cassville and will soon move from our district. Mr. Wilson' from Iowa has moved on the place vacated by J. T. Cook. We welcome them to our neighborhood. Mayflower Died on the 28th of October 1910, a Mr. Clemans with cancer on face. He was laid to rest in the Antioch Cemetery on the 20th. Services was held by R. C. Bone of the Antioch Christian Church. His brother from Illinois was with him at the time of his death. Grandma Pruitt who has been confined to her room so long is able to be out one time more. She is quite feeble and old. G. W. Mahurin has sold his place to George Rose and bought his mother-in-law's place and has moved to it and his mother-in-law had gone to her son's in Oklahoma to make her home and Lish Stephens has bought out D. M. Ferry and has moved upon it and Mr. Ferry has moved to Pea Ridge, Ark. W. A. Morgan traded his place to a man from North Missouri. Will started soon for his new home. We very much regret to give Mr. Morgan up for his place will be somewhat hard to fill. Died Oct 29, 1910, Hose Moore and was laid to rest in the Twelve Corner Cemetery on the 30. Funeral services were attended by D. P. Green of Pea Ridge City. Lon Patterson has sold his place to a Mr. Ethridge and bought Mr. Hurd's place and part of the Wardlow place. He then sold it to a man in Kansas. Mr. Hurd is going to Kansas to make that his future home. Butler Hollow By: Sweet Sixteen The new bell is bought and put on the school house. It has been much needed for a long time. Mrs. Elliott received a letter from her son, Joe, who is at Muskogee, Okla., stating that he was a a position running a stationary engine at that place, success to him. Fred Ramey expects to return home in about two weeks. We learn that John Summy is hunting Bill Pope with a shot gun. Bill is on the alert for every time he hears a lizard or grasshopper move in the leaves he almost has a spasm. Everything is lovely and the goose hangs high on the hollow. Mineral Springs Our school started Monday after five weeks stop with Miss Bertha Baker as teacher. Accident Frank Scroggins and wife visited friends at Eagle Rock Saturday night and Sunday. Edward Beck and sister, Dora, attended church at Accident Sunday. Late Mason and daughter, Pearle, of Colony, Kans., and Mrs. McKay and daughters, Faye and Bertha, spent last week with their parents and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Channell. James Chappell and sister, Ada, and niece, Alice Hearle Mason, attended singing at Mineral, Wednesday. Tom Linley has moved on the place vacated by James Scroggins. Uncle James had gone to live with his son, Henry. Pasley By: Shorty Mr. Ross and daughter and son has the typhoid fever. Prof. Whitworth has taught a two term sing school at Corinth. Mr. Baker is very sick at present. Golden The writer wishes to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. George England. We are sorry to learn of the death of little Ray Bartmess, son of Joe Bartmess, of near Golden. The little one has been sick for 2 months and suffered his last Thursday evening about 4 o'clock. It is hard to give our loved ones up but our loss is Heaven's gain and all we can do is to live for God and do his blessed will so that we can meet our loved ones in the great beyond where they will be no parting with them there. We can sympathize with the dear mother, father and relatives of this dear little babe who has left them and gone to live with God. Miss Nellie Prentice visited her two brothers Saturday night and Sunday. Those that were in the tick-tacking crowd Hallow'een night report a jolly time. Jenkins Mr. and Mrs. Davis Doty and son, Warren visited a week down on White River with their son John. Miss Lillie Sullivan was called to Butterfield Friday evening on the account of her sister, Sarah's death. She was accompanied by Casel Barnes. Lillie's many friends sympathize with her sad bereavement. Newt Cook has a sick baby. Newt Cook has sold his farm. Cass Jefferies has a sick child. Clio W. P. Bailie is still down with the rheumatism. Cliff Neill got thrown off a horse Thursday night and got some very bad bruises. John Doty is quit carrying the mail and Fred is driving man. Harrison Wilson and son of Madry was visiting here Sunday. U.S. Riddle and Bob Jeffries was at Leann Wednesday night. Dog Hollow By: Ben Holt Our teacher, Miss Zoe? Thompson, visited home folks from Wednesday evening until Sunday evening. Ed Vanderpool's baby is very poorly. Our teacher Miss Zoe Thompson, visited home folks from Wednesday evening until Sunday evening. Dry Hollow Monroe Bullington's are moving to Roe Whittington's farm this week. S. S. Pennell has his new house almost completed. Lone Elm Pansy Owens and husband visited her brother, Will, the later part of last week. Eagle Rock Troy H. Cornell has been appointed rural letter carrier at Seligman. Success to your Troy. James Garrett is building a new house here. Viola Mrs. Couch and little daughter of Shell Knob visited her father, Mr. Morro, Friday and Saturday. Three of our teachers, Misses Lola Curry, Iva Feland and Thena Brookman are attending Teacher's Association at Cassville this week. Al Rose has moved to the Carter neighborhood this week. Tuesday evening, November 1st about fifty of "Grandma" Oxford's friends surprised her with a birthday supper. Dr. Kelly and Tom Ledbetter haven't been felling well since. Wonder why? |
