Gunter: The little babe of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Whittington doesn't improve much. Washburn: Little Maggie, daughter of Trell and Lillie Campbell is not expected to live. She has been very low for several days with stomach trouble. Forest Grove: The families of John Cook, Sam Beason and Ranzy Ennes have been placed under quarantine. Washburn Prairie: Mrs. P. E. Smith and children of Roaring River, visited her mother, Mrs. H. J. Hopkins, Mother. Seligman: Mrs. Walter Beaver has a ten pound Democratic boy at her home. Seligman: Henry Skelton, John Reed and Jim Ganns were given the first degree of woodcraft in M. W. of A. last Tuesday night. Golden: United in holy matrimony by Bro. Tom Clark, Roe Poyner and Retta Hilton, September 24, at the home of Bro. Clark. Oak Ridge: Mrs. Grison, mother of Mrs. W. T. Bradley and J. H. Grison of Forest Grove and Mr. Bradley's sister of Illinois started for their home Saturday evening accompanied by Mrs. J. B. Grison and children and Eula, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bradley. Mrs. Grison goes to make that her future home. Mr. Grison will go later. Mr. and Mrs. Bradley will go to make a visit, Mr. Bradley having rented his place one year. We are sorry to have these people leave us, hope they will decide to return and make their home with us. Chas. Sturgeon of Butterfield was given 30 days Friday in the county jail for disturbing the peace of a neighborhood. Dr. Freeman of Monett was called to John Cook's east of town, Saturday in consultation concerning the serous illness of Mrs. Cook. The physicians seem to think that Mrs. Cook has diphtheria. Mrs. Bert Dummit and children left Tuesday for Port Arthur, Texas, to join her husband there, Mrs. Boucher, Mrs. Dummit's mother, accompanied her as far as Neosho. Pierce City Leader. A son arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Carl, Sunday, Oct 2. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Calloway, Sunday, Oct. 2, a son. Mardon R., little son of Mr. and Mrs. James Talbert just north of town died Wednesday morning, Oct 5, of diphtheria, after an illness of one week, aged two years and one day. The bereaved family has the deepest sympathy of the people of Cassville and vicinity in this a dark hour of sorrow for their home. Obituary: Adline Goodman died Oct 1, 1910 at the home of her son, W. H. Goodman at Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her maiden name was Patton. She was born in Tennessee in 1834. At the age of seven she moved with her parents to Missouri and was a resident of that state until recently. In 1859 when was married to H. L. Goodman to which union for children were born. Her husband and three or her children preceded her to the grave. Grandma was converted years ago and for thirty years has been a member of the Baptist church. Washburn Prairie: J. B. Hopkins and wife and mother visited W. A. Hopkins and wife of Trents Creek Saturday night and Sunday. Washburn Prairie: Mrs. Joe Longley and children visited her daughter, Mrs. Mayme Bandy, at Union Valley Saturday night and Sunday. Washburn: Born to Vert Dudley and wife, October 6th, a daughter. Washburn: Born to Dr. L. B. Northcutt and wife, Friday, Oct 7th, a Democratic son.
Washburn: We regret to hear of the death of the little son of John and Susie Adcock which occurred at their home in Berryville, Ark., Saturday night of membranous croup. The remains were interred in Berryville. Washburn: Mrs. Manford Dummit and son, Fountain, of Pierce City, and Mrs. Maude Houston and daughter, Margaret, of near Cassville, visited their grandparents, Arch Roller and family from Wednesday till Thursday. Washburn: Snow Crim is able to be out after a siege of fever. Washburn: Loyd Mooney is on the sick list. He has Malaria fever. Ash No. 2: Sorghum galore, Charley Mitchell and Theron Orodine are in the business and like Jonathan and David they stick together (with molasses). [Abstract] Obituary: Daughter of Trell and Lillie Campbell died on the morning of Oct 5, 1910. Lillie Margaret was age five years, five months, and fifteen days old. The funeral was at the church Wednesday and the remains were laid to rest in Roller Cemetery, by the side of her grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Journey, who preceded her in death six months ago. Juanita, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wallen, two miles east of town, died at an early hour, Saturday morning Oct 8, 1910, of diphtheria, age 2 years and 1 day. John Ivey has received word that the trial of Guy Ivey at Ft. Smith has been continued to Oct 18. Miss Cricket Elzey and W. S. Stewart of Muskogee, Okla., were married Wednesday, Oct 5. Miss Elzey is a daughter of S. B. Elzey, who was a resident of Cassville many years ago. Dr. E. C. Taylor has been graded a trade mark certificate by the secretary of state for botanical medical remedies. The trade mark is "Roaring River Remedies". Mrs. A. S. Kirk and little daughter came down from Monett Tuesday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Livingston and other relatives. Chas. Cole west of Exeter has a very sick child. Mrs. Cloud, wife of attorney Wash Cloud of Pierce City, died Friday, Oct 7. Will, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. James Talbert, who has been sick is improving. An infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Moore died Wednesday of last week at the home of Mrs. Moore's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Johnson, southeast of town. Interment was made at Oak Hill Cemetery Thursday. Rudolph Gravett of Canada, is visiting relatives in this vicinity. He was in Cassville Saturday with his brother-in-law P. A. Freese. Mr. Gravett has been in Canada four years. He will spend the winter here. John Bryant of this city is digging his sweet potatoes, found a hill that had two large potatoes in it. He weighed the potatoes and they weight just five pounds each. Mr. Gibbs received from his old home in New York, his grandfather's clock. It is a clock anyone would prize, standing at least seven feet high, and is almost 200 years old. Mt Vernon Fountain and Journal. Seligman: Grandma Baker is visiting her children at Garfield. Washburn: Mrs. Harvey Weston, arrived Saturday from Fairland, Okla., for a week's visit with her son, Robt. Fountain and other relatives. Washburn: Miss Ada Call who is teaching school at Trent Creek spent Sunday with home folks. Washburn: Mrs. Dallas Ellis, son and daughter, Britt and Lena, of Decatur, Ark., are visiting her daughter, Mrs. Jim Fielding. Washburn: Mrs. J. A. Frost left Monday night for Paul's Valley, Okla., to visit her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Pennington. Washburn: Mrs. G. M. Withers and children of Monett are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stark. Washburn: Lem Berryhill has returned to Barry County after a year's absence in the west. He is looking well. Mineral Springs: Born to Dave Dean and wife, the eight, a baby girl. Gunter: We are sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Lizzie Utter. Cross Hollows: The little child of John Dillbeck which had diphtheria is improving. Eagle Rock: Byron Ketchum of Monett has been visiting his father-in-law, Will Burris. Eagle Rock: Chris Easley and wife, John Easley and wife of Maysville, Ark., has been visiting friends and relatives here this week. Eagle Rock: R. W. Whittington has moved to his new store building. Eagle Rock: Troy Cornell took the civil service examination at Monett Saturday 15th. Clio: We learn that Bert Madison will move his saw mill to the Baptist Hollow in abut two weeks. Shady Grove: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Will Reed, a girl, last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Cox of Seneca accompanied the remains of Mrs. Cox's mother Mrs. Mary Ireland, to this city, Wednesday. Chris Ireland and son, Will went to Seneca last week on account of the illness of Mrs. Mary Ireland. Born to Dave Dean and wife of Mineral Springs, daughter. R. S. Dummit brought down W. S. Holiday Tuesday from Monett to serve ten days in the county jail for vagrancy. Milwaukee: J. C. Ireland received a message Friday from near Neosho stating that his mother was not expected to live, he went at once. New Site: Miss Stella Banks will go to Eureka this week to visit her sister, Mrs. Oscar Higgins. New Site: A goodly number of relatives and friends of W. M. Carlin met at their home Sunday with well filed baskets and surprised them. Among the number from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Carlin of Perce City, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Zinn of Freistatt, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Brown and Sherman Carlin of Purdy, Mr. Carlin's daughter Mrs. Samantha Hudson and three sons from Arkansas, Mrs. Tom Montgomery and daughter from Oklahoma, J. L. Means and family of Lawrence County, and Mrs. Maggie Ried [Reed] of Pierce City. The little infant son of Dr. and Mrs. L. B. Northcutt of Washburn was buried Monday.
Washburn: Mrs. J. L. Sage and little daughter, Pauline, of Chanute, Kan, are spending a month with her mother, Mrs. Augusta Senter. Munsey: Etta Hall has been quite sick, with sore throat but is better at this writing. Munsey: Wesley Reed has old 2 yearling mules and a suckling mule in the past few days. Pioneer: Mack and Ruby Harader are attending school at Fairview. Pioneer: Mrs. Stark of Newtonia and Mrs. Wormington of Fairview visited at their father's W. F. Stewart, yesterday. Pioneer: Henry Whittington was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Hawk, at Newtonia. Mrs. Hawk's little boy has a bad case of fever. Sunny Side: Bob Forgery has been visiting his father, O. C. Forgey of Oklahoma the past week. Forest Grove: Ranzy Ennes has moved from the the Duncan farm to the Dave Hall's farm near Mineral. Clark: Miles Turner of Pierce City but formerly an old and respected citizen of this neighborhood died Saturday and was buried Sunday 23 inst. in the Corsicana Cemetery. Clark: We understand that George Gurley of Purdy is at Eureka Springs, Ark., dangerously ill with pneumonia fever, and has sent for all his children to come to his bedside. We hope he will recover. Hailey: We are sorry to hear of John Brooks children having diphtheria. Hope they'll soon recover. Hailey: Our teacher, Mr. Ray, was called to the bedside of his sister, Mrs. Kinsey, Friday, also Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Kinsey. Hope she will soon recover. Jenkins: Born to John Myers and wife a boy. Jenkins: Born to Wiley Eden and wife a girl. Jenkins: Cretta and Mamie Long have been sick but are better at this writing. Butler Hollow: Fred Ramey has been visiting his grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Ramey. Lone Elm: Jonah Stocton [Stockton] and wife are staying at his grandpa's with his sister, Carrie, while his grandpa and grandma are gone on a visit. P. E. Horine and daughter Miss Edith and Charles Ray untied with the Christian Church Saturday night and were baptized. Elmer, nineteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Smith, died Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Oct 23, 1910 of epilepsy. Elmer had been afflicted since his eleventh year when he was first sick with the trouble which finally took him away as he was growing into manhood. The family had done all effective medical treatment. Interment was Monday at Oakhill Cemetery. Rev. Moses Smith and family of Exeter returned from a few week's visiting at Rev. Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO Exeter: John Stapleton of Pueblo, Colo., is visiting his brother, Price Stapleton, this week. Cross Hollows: Mrs. C. H. Elliott and children of Monett are visiting her parents, W. S. Lester of this place. Mano: Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hilburn were called to the bedside of their father R. M. Hilburn, Saturday of last week who is seriously sick at his home near Verona. Mano: Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Cassity are rejoicing over a ten pound boy which arrived at their house on the 12th. Mayflower: We are sorry to learn of the death of Eld. John Riley Scott. He was one of the pioneer ministers of the Southwest. He came to this country in 1842. He was an untiring worker in the spread of the gospel. He was of the Christian Church and came from Pennsylvania to this county. In an early day he often preached in congregations in the open groves with a stump or a log of his pulpit, there were very, very few church houses at that time. Rocky Comfort: An automobile scared a team of horses Tuesday evening in Fairview and they ran over Henry Etter, formerly of this place, wounding him pretty badly. At the time we go to press we have heard nothing from him. Independent Officer Joe Jackson brought Arthur Gilifilen down from Monett Tuesday and lodge him in the county jail charge with larceny. Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO This paper is torn in several places. W. C. Allen of Kellerton, Iowa, a cousin of Wm. Allen whose case is up in court this week, came in Saturday to be at the trial of his cousin. Jno. Toller of Exeter was here Saturday. He is an old solider who is feeling the effects of age. Miss Cora Forgey formerly of near Seligman was married Nov. 8, to Dr. Henry F. Ricer in San Diego, Calif. They will visit in the east next spring, their present home being in San Diego. Mary James is very low with pneumonia at the home of her aunt, Izzie Brandt south of town five miles. The slander suit brought by Mary Ruskoski against Josephine Bobski for $3,000 actual and $3,000 punitive damages came up in the circuit court Saturday. A large number of witnesses were in attendance on both sides. The testimony was taken Saturday. The case was argued and turned to the jury Monday morning. The jury's verdict gave the plaintiff $1. damages. Mrs. J. C. Skelton has been employed to complete the term of school in the Mt. Zion district near Eagle Rock. The teacher, Miss Nerva Brock, having married and resigned. Washburn Prairie: Mrs. J. E. Longely and daughters Mary and Margie visited her brother, Abe Cantrell of Shoal Creek the later part of last week. Washburn: Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Withers, son and daughter, Gene and Ruth, are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stark. They will spend Thanksgiving at Eureka Springs. Hailey: Claude Anderson has gone to his home in Arkansas to be at the bedside of his sick brother. Shell Knob: George Roe is building a new residence. Shell Knob: Charley James of Lela, Oklahoma, arrived Saturday to visit his parents, W. J. James and wife. Bethel: Mrs. Aaron Black of Pleasant Ridge, visited her sister Mrs. Bud Henderson Saturday and Sunday. Eagle Rock: Chas. Skelton has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Lester Murry, at Seligman the past week. Eagle Rock: Bill Dell came through here last week enroute for Oklahoma where he intends to make his future home. Eagle Rock: Jessie Reed visited Ina an Anna Smith near Mano Friday and reported a good time. |

Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO State vs. Arthur Giffilian exhibiting deadly weapons, plea of guilty and punishment assessed at seventy days in the county jail. Julius Stipp died Saturday, Nov 26. [Click here to read] Washburn: Mrs. J. J. Blakey's mother Mrs. Haight of Mt Washington came to spend the winter. Washburn: Gilbert Skelton of Fairland, Oklahoma, is visiting his uncle, Robt. Fountain. Washburn: Mrs. Maud Houston and children Margaret and Nadine and Miss Alta Brooks are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arch Roller for a few days. Pioneer: Mrs. Henry Whittington is suffering from a bone felon on her finger. Pioneer: A boy by the name of Stipp was killed Thanksgiving day when his shotgun was accidentally fired. Pioneer: Grandma Hutchens died last Wednesday evening and was buried Friday near Cassville. She had been ill for quite a while an her death was not unexpected. Forest Grove: Harrison Ennes and Miss Della Steele were married Thanksgiving at the home of J. D. Ennes. Union Valley: Mrs. Anna Burton of Carterville visited her sister, Mrs. Rosa Cole from Friday until Sunday. Dog Hollow: Mrs. I. O. Payne was called to the bedside of her mother at Eldorado Springs. Viola: A sweet little daughter came last Tuesday to bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Josh Allman. Mineral Springs: William Holliday, our star mail carrier will soon move back and occupy his residence in Mineral. Mineral Springs: Robert Brandon of Baxter Springs came in Friday to visit his mother, Mrs. L. H. Taylor, and his brother, Hiram Brandon. Mineral Springs: Dan Holliday will move to the place recently rented by his father, William Holliday, of Robert and John Brandon.
Seligman: The sad news came on Tuesday of the death of Villa, the wife of John Goins at their home in Ontario, Ore. She leaves three children. Her two sisters, Flora and Norma Walden were with her. She died of typhoid fever on the 21st. The sincere sympathy of their many friends is extended to the family. She was a cousin of Will Pendergraft whose death occurred on the 23rd. Pasley: Mary James is still very low with the pneumonia fever. Claud B. Stubblefield and Miss Jayne Varner of Washburn Prairie were united in marriage Wednesday, Nov 23rd. Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO Miss Gertie Turner was called home from Illinois Saturday by the death of her sister, Mrs. Jas. Mitchell. Doc Skelton and J. C. Whittington of Eagle Rock and S. L. Warf of Exeter were among those who transacted business here Saturday. R. H. Elam of Eagle Rock was at Fairland, Okla., a part of last week on business and also visiting relatives. He says that section has a good corn crop and lots of it is being handled there now. Mineral Springs: Mr. Arkman's brother who has been sick at his home for the past few months, died Monday and was buried at the Mineral Cemetery Tuesday evening. McDowell: Mr. Hines who lived down the creek from here died suddenly Friday morning from heart failure. Butler Hollow: Miss Estella Beaver who got her arm broken some three weeks ago is improving nicely.
Ridgley: Fred Cox and Mary Scroggins were married Saturday, December 3rd. We wish them a long and happy life. Wheaton: On Nov. 27th, the death angle visited the home of Otto Duncan and wife and took from their midst their infant son, Basil Webb Duncan. Journal Mrs. Dummit and Mrs. Jackson, of Kings Prairie, will be seventy years old tomorrow. They are twin sisters. Monett Times. Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO J. A. Barnes of near Purdy returned from Holtville, Cal., last week where he has been for a few months. Mr. Barnes lived until recently near Golden for several years. He was reared on the S. T. Sims farm southeast of Cassville and his parents and grandparents were among the this county's oldest settlers. Rocky Comfort: Mrs. George Lewis, who lived at Oronogo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Crider of this city, died Thursday morning of last week. Mr. Crider was at her bedside during the last hours of her sickness. Her husband died last February. Mrs. Lewis leaves behind homeless children and Mr. Crider desires to find good homes for them. Independent Union Valley: Mr. Jordan of Seven Star had the misfortune of getting his house burned Sunday; only part of their household goods were saved. Union Valley: Mr. and Mrs. Lot Senseney spent Sunday at will Cole's. Kings Prairie: Mrs. Ella Haskett and children of Oklahoma are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henderson. Kings Prairie: Aunt Martha Jackson died at her home on Kings Prairie Wednesday, Dec 7, 1910., age 75 years, 1 month, and 18 days. She was a sister to Bro. Hammers. She was a faithful member in the Methodist Church at the Prairie and well be greatly missed. The heirs of Peter Catron met at Cassville
Tuesday and arranged the affairs of the Catron estate. Peter Catron left no will
but had a considerable amount of property, principally land. All money was given
the widow and the land was divided among the eight children in accordance with
the wish of Mr. Catron before he died in deeds made to take effect after his
death. The deeds thus being void, the eight children mutually agreed to each
execute deeds in accordance with what they knew their father's will to be. They
avoided any necessity of an administration on the estate and divided the estate

Bashe was an agent for the Frisco at Seligman, died at his home in Seligman, Friday, December 23, 1910 of pneumonia, following an illness of one week. He was born in Germany, May 3, 1852. He first located in Iowa and married, then came to Missouri. The funeral services were held at Exeter Sunday afternoon, and he was buried in Maplewood Cemetery. He left a wife and five children. Washburn: Hugh Payton who has been on the sick list is able to be out again. Washburn: Miss Jeffie Mooney of Carthage is visiting Faye and Vivian Black. Dry Hollow: I think the phone line from Seligman to the Hollow is almost dead as there isn't many phones on it.

Munsey: L. N. Garrett bought a mare from M. C. Messer of Cassville a few days ago. Seligman: Pat Hancke is attending business college at Springfield. Seligman: A fine big boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leal Ramey's the 17th. Union Valley: Mrs. Susie Drinkwater of Near Butterfield is visiting her sisters Mrs. Mary Scroggins and Mrs. Lizzie Hickman. Shell Knob: Emeline Shewmate of Cedar Point, Kansas came in Monday to visit her folks, F. A. James. Forest Grove: Mr. Plummer has ordered a gasoline engine which he will have placed at his well. Forest Grove: Grandma Sharp died Tuesday evening, was buried Wednesday beside her husband at Mineral Springs. She has been a great sufferer for several weeks past with a cancer on her face. Sam Blankenship of near Jenkins was here Tuesday. He has closed a deal for the mill two miles below Jenkins on Flat Creek, known as the Jordan Mill. He will take charge at once. W. H. Brown and wife of Springfield have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. Ernest Ramsey.
Miles and Milt Abernathy are visiting their old home in Tennessee. H. O. Abernathy, the new collector of Barry County, was here Saturday. He has closed a deal for the C. W. Beaver residence, consideration $1200. He will move his family to Cassville sometime in January. S. L. Leonard of near Purdy informed us Monday while in town that the mother of Will Norris who lives south of Purdy one mile died suddenly Friday. She lived with her son, Will, and was quite old. Mrs. Nancy Sharp, aged mother of J. W. Sharp, of near Mineral Springs, died Tuesday night, Dec. 20, of cancer. The funeral was conducted Wednesday by Rev. J. W. Ennes and interment made at the Mineral Springs Cemetery. C. B. King of near McDowell was her Monday. He reports the death of Thos. Bennett, who lives near McDowell, Thursday Dec 15, following an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Bennett was about 45 years of age and leaves a wife an a number of children, one of whom is Miss Christian Bennett who is a teacher, and a former pupil of the Cassville School. Cleve Lloyd and Miss Dora Sullivan were married Sunday, Dec 18, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Keer north of Cassville, four miles on Flat Creek, Rev. J. W. Ennes officiating. Mrs. Lloyd is the daughter of ex-Sheriff J. R. Sullivan and wife south of town and is a popular teacher, teaching the present term at Quaker. Mr. Lloyd is a step-son of R. P. Keer who has lately moved to this county. The REPUBLICAN extends congratulations. John W. Welch now of Kansas City will move back to this farm near Mineral Springs soon. A new heir has recently arrived at the home of Rev. and Mrs. E. W. Love of Dunbar, Neb. Sol Lady of Liberty township made final proof on a homestead entry before Circuit Clerk Williams Tuesday.
