Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO J. W. Allison Passes Away: Following a long illness, J. W. Allison died at the home of his son, Ed Allison, on the J. E. Pilant farm, north of town, 11 miles, Jan 16, 1911. Four months Mr. Allison had been in ill health and gradually gave way to his complication of troubles. He was taken to the home of his son, Ed, that he might be well cared for. J. W. Allison was about 67 years of age and had lived about Cassville for many years where he was held in highest respect, being a quiet, upright industrious citizen and Christian gentleman. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Ennes and interment made in the Pilant Cemetery. The bereaved family consists of a wife, two sons, Edward, and Price, and two daughter, Mrs. Marion Hesse, east of town, and Mrs. Wm. Dodge of Monett.

Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO On Death's Row: John Milton Gardner died at his home near Wheaton last Tuesday, at the age of 79 years of partial paralysis. He was born in Hart County, Kentucky in 1832 and the following year, his parents moved to LaRue County where he resided until the summer of 1881 at which time he and his family came to Barry County and settled on Shoal Creek, and later located near Wheaton where he resided until his death. Soon after he came to Missouri and was confined near his home in his latter years, and during the last three years of his life he was attacked several times with partial paralysis, which finally resulted in his death. J. M. Gardner, was married to Mary Jane Huff of LaRue County, Kentucky, in 1854, and later enlisted in the Union Army in Kentucky and experience all the privations of those who resided along the border between the North and South. There was born of this marriage three children, Judge L. W. Gardner, Mira Gardner and A. B. Gardner all of Wheaton. He leaves surviving him, his widow and all his descendents to mourn their loss. He was the grand-father of Attorney H. A. Gardner of this city. The citizens of the west part of the county where he lived and was better known, have nothing but words of praise for J. M. Gardner who for more than thirty years had lived among them a citizen honored and most highly esteemed. |

Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO A. M. James Dead: Alexander McGee James, one of the old and substantial citizens of Barry County, passed away at his home south of Cassville five miles, Wednesday, Jan 18, 1911, aged 81 years, 1 month, and 21 days. A. M. James, familiarly called "Doc" James, was born Nov 28, 1829 in Blount County, Tennessee, moved to Marion county, Arkansas, in 1871, and to Barry County, MO in 1877 where he has since made his home, except a few months at a time. Mr. James was married in Tennessee in 1855. To this union eleven children were born, nine boys and two girls lived to be grown, a son, William James, died in 1894. The remainder of the children are living. Mrs. James died in 1886. In 1890 he was married to Nancy Irvin who died Aug 23, 1906. Mr. James married Caroline Frost, January 1908. He leaves a wife, nine children, thirty-four grand-children and seven great grand-children. Four of the grandson were pall bearers at the funeral. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Washburn Prairie Church and interment made at the cemetery there. Years ago Mr. James united with Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a citizen of high standing and a man of much force of character and strong personality, a valuable citizen in the community in which he lived. For several years his age and health has not permitted him to lead an active life, but in this younger days he was a citizen looked to for counsel and was one the progressive farmers of this county.

Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO County Court Proceedings: At an adjourned term held Jan 17 and 18, 1911, following business was transacted; being present Judges, Thos. F. Montgomery, P. B. O'Dwyer, E. B. Holman, M. E. Newman, Sheriff and W. T. Bailey, Clerk. By authority of section 3781, revised statues of Missouri 1909, providing for auditing of the accounts, books and other papers of county officials, court contracted with Audit and Bond Co., of America through their see, W. L. Wilder, for the purpose of having county offices audited. Upon petition W. M. Kennedy court inquired into sanity of Dolly Kennedy. Court after due investigation adjudged Dolly Kennedy to be insane and ordered sent to asylum for insane at Nevada. Warrants issued: [amounts not listed] L. G. Brown & Son Mdse Co., farm, M. E. Newman, maintenance of Dolly Kennedy at asylum, M. E. Newman conveying to asylum, M. E. Newman, subpoenas, Dr. R. B. Gladden witness and detailed statement, Robert Dummit witness, W. M. Kennedy, witness, T. F. Montgomery, per diem, P. B. O'Dwyer, same, E. B. Holman, same, M. E. Newman, same. Clerk ordered to purchase twenty-five 2 squire justices of the peace dockets. Account of Thos. Shrum, overseer dist No. 5 for $50. for 25 days overseeing allowed. W. A. Neeley abstract (for school) for fund loan approved and warrant amount of loan drawn. Tax returns of St. Louis and Sam Francisco R. R. Co. (in Barry County) Arkansas & Texas branch not accepted by court as correct. Court ordered that said R. R. Co. be assessed for taxes for 1911 upon basis as fixed by State Board of Equalization at Jefferson City April 18, 1910. State auditor to be notified of action of court. Same basis fixed for all other railroads in county. Also the assessment of Union Telegraph Co., Ozark Bell Telephone Co., to be made upon basis fixed by the state Board of Equalization at April session 1911. The Missouri & Kansas Telephone Co. have failed to make statement of it s tax returns for 1911. This fact ordered certified to state auditor. Same as to the Barry County Mutual Telephone Co. Same as to Purdy Telephone Co. Same as to Mitchell Telephone and Electric Co. Report of death of Eliza J. Russell patient at Insane Asylum No. 3.
