Feb 9, 1911, Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO

Dies Suddenly: Joshua W. Davis passed suddenly from time to eternity at his home on North Main street, late Thursday afternoon of heart failure and paralysis. He had expressed himself during the day in is usual health and attention, to this daily duties about his house and was up in town frequently during the day. Late in the afternoon he took his cow to water, returned and ate supper and was a the barn milking when the fatal stroke came. He was found in a dying condition at the barn and was taken to the house where he died within a few minutes. His neighbors had noticed that during the past few months he appeared to be growing quite feeble but shocked to learn of his sudden demise.

Joshua W. Davis was born near Zanesville, Ohio, in 1839, and since 1894 had lived in this county, the principal part of the time on Roaring River. About nine months ago he moved to Cassville, bought a home and was spending the remainder of his days where he would have the convenience of the town.

During the Civil War he served four years in the Union Army. He was married in 1859 to Miss Susannah Dummit and to them were born ten children, four of whom are living: Wm. of Iona, South Dakota; George, who lives in Oregon; Henry of Nebraska; and Charles of Marionville.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church of which he was a member, Sunday afternoon, Feb 5, and interment made in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Joshua Davis was one of the very best of neighbors and one of our very-best citizens. In him were found those cardinal virtues which go to make up the highest type of upright citizenship.
