*** Obituary: On Friday night, Feb 10, the death angel visited our community and snatched from our midst Allen Marshall after a short illness of pneumonia fever. Allen Irvin Marshall was born Jan 9, 1883, died Feb 10, 1911, aged 28 years, 1 month and 1 day, was converted at the age of 21 and lived a devoted Christian life. Allen lived a life that should be an example to anyone. Funeral services were held at his father's home Sunday, Feb 12, conducted by Rev. G. W. Quails, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Purdy Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss a darling baby boy two weeks old, a loving wife, a father, mother, three sisters, three brothers, and a host of friends and relatives. *** Mrs. Louis Barnhill Died: Blanche, the wife of Louis Barnhill, died at her home in Miami, Okla., on Tuesday evening, and the body was brought here and buried in the Coldwater Cemetery today. The body of an infant born to the deceased a few days before her death accompanied the remains of the mother. Blanche Morris was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Morris and was for a time a resident of this county. She was married here about eighteen months since to Louie Barnhill and moved to Oklahoma. The surviving relatives have the sympathy of their many friends in their sorrow. A Kansas paper clipping. *** Deceased: Francis Marion Trowbridge was born at Swan Creek, Gallia County, Ohio, Feb 2, 1844. He served on and one half years in the Federal army in the Civil War. He removed to Lucas County, Iowa, in 1867 and engaged in the practice of medicine for 12 years until his failing health caused him to retire and move to a more congenial climate of the south. He married Miss Celia A. Turner of La Grange, Lucas County, Iowa, May 6, 1876. He lived on a farm in Carroll County, Ark., for 18 years them moving to Washburn, MO, in 1901 where he lived until his death Feb. 4, 1911. Mr. Trowbridge leaves behind a wife, two sons, Roy and Harold, and a daughter Mrs. Clara Cox of Pasadena, California. In his youth he united with M. E. Church but for a number of years has not been identified with any organization. He found great comfort in his Bible, which he perused daily. Funeral services were conducted Monday at noon by Rev. [Research Note: Copy is not good and there is much more of it than this.]*** G. W. Seth died at his home in Joplin of pneumonia, last week. His body was shipped back to this county for interment and buried Saturday on Little Flat Creek where the family formerly lived. The family lived in Cassville for some time. About two years ago they moved from here to Joplin. He leaves a wife and six children, four of whom are grown. Mr. Seth was a good citizen. The bereaved family has the heartfelt sympathy of the people of Cassville. *** Rachel J. Purcell was born in Indiana, Oct 17, 1846, died in Alamosa hospital, Jan 25, 1911 from injuries received in a fall a week previous to her death, age 64 years, 3 months, 8 days. She had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years. She was married Henry C. Horrall, Nov 26, 1869, to which union five children were born, two dying in infancy. Three children, Mrs. Eva G. Williams, Lydia M. Horrall both of Alamosa, Colo., and Geo. F. Horrall survive. Mr. Horrall died Jan 5, 1889. She was remarried several years ago to A. J. Henderson who died Aug 5, 1902. Mrs. Henderson was for several years a resident of Barry County but moved to Alamosa abut four years ago where she has since resided. She was a faithful Christian and kind and loving mother. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Edwards of the M. E. Church, assisted by Revs. Butler, Darley, and Darling. Interment in the Alamosa Cemetery. *** Eula Burlison, daughter of W. E. Burlison near Aurora attempted to end her life Thursday night by drinking carbolic acid. The quick call for a physician and his prompt arrival burned by the acid. [doesn't make sense - but what it reads] The young lady is about 20 years of age. She made the statement that if she got over this attempt she would never attempt to take her life again. Monett Star *** Announcement: We are authorized to announce W. E. Hankins of Butterfield as a candidate for the office of Superintendent of Schools of Barry County, election at annual school meeting, April 1911. *** Fred Johnson was placed under arrest Saturday charged with exhibition a deadly weapon in a threatening manner. Fred had been in Indiana for some time and was arrested upon his return. |
