McDowell News: Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hemphill were laid to rest near their old home the family cemetery at Osa, amidst a large crowd of friends and relatives. The many friends extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. Revs. John Thomas and John Allman conducted the funeral services after which the remains were placed in one grave. A large crowd attended the funeral to show these dear old people their last respect.

Death of Two Highly Respected Citizens: Mrs. Elizabeth Hemphill died Wednesday evening, Aug 19, at the home of her son, B. L. Hemphill, of near McDowell of malaria fever, age 77 years, 1 month and 4 days. On Thursday night following, the husband, Lee M. Hemphill passed peacefully away at their home in this city of old age and a general decline of health, age 72 years, 4 months and 5 days.

Mrs. Hemphill had been at McDowell only a short time visiting her children when she became sick. On account of her advanced age her illness became critical from the beginning. Mr. Hemphill had been in poor health for several months. Some weeks ago his health had improved to an extend that he was able to be up and made a few trips to town. About three weeks ago he suffered a relapse from which he gradually grew weaker until life became extinct.

Funeral services were held at Osa Friday with Rev. John Thomas in charge. Their remains were interred at the Osa Cemetery.

Lee M. Hemphill was born in McMinn County, Tennessee, December 15, 1842. Elizabeth Hemphill - Lush was born in in Ripley County, Missouri, July 16, 1837. They were married July 21, 1861. They were the parents of three living children. They are L. B., Ira, and Mrs. J. D. Williams, all residing in the vicitny of McDowell. Mr. Hemphill leaves one brother, Andy Hemphill of Galena, Stone County and Mrs. Hemphill leaves one brother, John Lusk at Osa and one sister Angeline Waghon at Dewey, Okla.

Mr. and Mrs. Hemphill had lived in Barry County for a number of years and were excellent citizens. About two years ago they moved to Cassville from McDowell when they had lived about twenty-five years.

Funeral of William Antle: The funeral services over the remains of Wm. Antle were held at the Exeter Baptist Church, Thursday at 11 o' clock with Rev. C. M. Smith in charge. Following his body was laid to rest in the Exeter Cemetery.

As announced last week, Mr. Antle passed peaceably away early Wednesday morning, August 19, 1914, after about thee days illness due to a stroke of paralysis.

The deceased was born in Adair County, Kentucky, Oct 6, 1845. When a boy his parents moved to Northeast Missouri. In 1856 they moved to Barry County and settled north of Exeter. Here the deceased grew to manhood and lived in that vicinity until death, with the exception of nineteen months service given to the Union army in the Civil War. He was married to Mary Clark whom survive[s]. Besides a widow he is survived by five children. They are Alfonso of Wayne, Fitch of Webb City, Horace of Exeter and Ed and Mary at home. He was reared in a family of five brothers and four sisters as follows: Sidney of Exeter, Dallas of Wheaton, Logan of Eureka Springs and Oliver and D. C., both deceased, Mesdames Jas. Goostree of Exeter, Schuyler Horn of Monett, King Barnett of Rocky Comfort and Samuel Lauderdale of Exeter.

Several years ago he professed faith in Christ and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a useful citizen and enjoyed the confidence of his acquaintances.

The body of Patrick Walsh, a detective for the Frisco, was interred at the Seligman Cemetery, Friday. Walsh was assaulted in Arkansas some days ago by a bunch of hoboes. He died at the hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. J. B. Sanders, the only sister of Mrs. J. J. Wallen, of this city, died at her home in Fairland, Okla., August 12. The deceased was born and reared in this county. When a resident of this county, she lived east of town and at Shell Knob. She was 66 years old and leaves a husband and five children to mourn her untimely death.
