November 10, 1910, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Obituary: Peter Catron
was born in Hancock Co., TN, May 10, 1828 and died Oct 31, 1910. There he
grew to manhood. With the true pioneer spirit he left his native state and
went west and settled 43 years ago in Barry Co., MO near Cassville. For
the most of this time he lived on the same farm about two and one-fourth
miles northwest of town. There he built a home and reared a large family
and helped to shape the affairs for this county as they have been handed
down to the present generation. Sixty years ago he was united in married
to Anna England who has survived her husband. To this union were born six
sons and two daughters all of who are living. They are Mrs. G. H. Glass of
Wyandotte, Okla.; and Mrs. Walter McNabb, of Exeter; Hiram of Tampieo,
Mexico; James and William of near Cassville, George of Eureka Springs,
Ark.; Jasper and Andy also of near Cassville.
Funeral services were held Monday Nov 1, at Antioch Church conducted by
Rev. Ed. Chappell. In the death of Mr. Catron, Barry County loses one of
her best citizens, a man of simple stern and upright character, a man
whose habits of life were exemplary and who believed in the cardinal
virtues of honesty and strict attention to one's own affairs in every
regard. In this passing away another of our pioneers has answered the
summons which so many have so recently answered in this county.

- Two Aged Mothers Pass Away: Mrs. Ann Catron, widow of Peter Catron who
was one of the prosperous pioneer farmers of the House locality, and Mrs.
Marcy C. Roberts who for many years was one of the prominent citizens of
the Hickum Prairie country in the eastern part of the county, died last
week.
Mrs. Catron was 89 years old and Mrs. Roberts was 86. Both were mothers of
large families and were excellent Christian women possessing that simple
but sterling character which so often characterized the mothers and the
fathers of the early days when all of the hardships of the pioneer had to
be met in the battle of life. For more than four fifths of a century these
women had lived. They had experienced life as it was lived during three
generations. They contributed their humble part to the noble but quiet
work of molding a great nation from the little group sparsely settle
states of nearly ninety years ago.
Mrs. Roberts leaves eight children: John of Alluwee, Okla., M. H. and J.
O. and Mrs. H. C. Henson of Golden, Mrs. Sarah Venable of Wayne, Mrs.
Marble Tuttle and Mrs. Annie Talby of Idaho.
Mrs. Catron left six children living: Hiram who lives in Mexico, Mrs. Ibby
Glass of Wyandotte, Okla., Burrell and Andy Catron and Mrs. Kate McNabb of
near Cassville and Jasper Catron of Lawrence County. Mrs. Catron was at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ibby Glass, at Wyandotte when she died. Her
body was shipped to its old home for burial. The funeral was held Friday
at the Antioch Baptist Church and interment made in the cemetery there.
Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Christian church and had been for about
66 years. Following he funeral services her body was laid to rest in the
Spring Grove Cemetery.
