Lazy Genealogist - Ethical Genealogy?

1. Do you post query questions with as little information as possible?

1. Are you too lazy to type?

 

2. Do you think that being vague is the easy way out?

2. Do you post information in your family files without a resource? 

1. Do you want others to think that you did the work, so you just forget about the resources because it takes too much time to ask for permission?

 

3. Resources are not important to me so why should they be to someone else?

 

3. Do you collect cemetery stone information by recording only part of the data that is given on the stone? 

1. Maybe you are to lazy to collect the foot stone or military stone data? 

 

2. Are you too lazy to record all of the dates including the inscriptions?

 

3. Are you too lazy to separate the inscriptions from the notes in your files?

 

4. Do you collect obits without the vital parts included? 

1. Do you leave off the date or the paper name because it takes too much time to record everything?

 

2. Do you write into the obit the words you want it to say?

 

5. Are you so lazy that you slant your genealogy?

1. Leaving out data that you don't want.

 

2. Are you not paying attention to names on the census records that should be added to your charts?

 

3. Are you not listening to family stories because it takes too much time to record them? 

 

4. Do you listen too much to family stories and forget to relay on facts?

 

5. Not recording all the names of the same surname in a cemetery because it takes a lot of work to do all of them?

 

6. Do you post or pass on second handed information that has no documentation?

1. Do you post data on the Internet before time is given to documentation?

 

2. Do you do hearsay genealogy?

 

7. Do you take photos from others but refuse to share yours?

1. It takes too much time to learn how to scan and e-mail photos? 

 

8. Do you use excuses for not doing the right thing?

1. Do you say it's not my direct line so I don't know about them?

 

2. I can't be responsible for the error, because I am not a good typist.

 

3. It would take too much time to learn to do whatever it is that you are not doing that you should be doing?

 

4. Is laziness behind your excuses or do you not care about having the data right?

 

9. Do you let others do your genealogy?

1. Use copy and paste genealogy from Internet sources because it takes less time?

 

2. Do you take photos from others and say that they are yours because it takes too much time to ask for permission to use them?

 

3. Do you give others credit?

 

10. Do you do ethical genealogy or are you just a lazy genealogist?

2. Do you look for shortcuts instead of details?

Do you have a positive or negative score?

Ethical genealogy means that honesty and uprightness have to be your main focus and that takes time.
