UPDATE According to an email received from
David Andrew Goostree on February 1,
2005 the photo on the left may be identified. David said, "I believe the
picture of Dennis is my grandfather's brother. (There were several ...Floyd,
Horace, Otis, Den, Homer and Grandpa's twin Sister Audie) I grew up in
Carthage, Missouri in the household of John Otis Goostree (my grandfather) and
my grandmother Amanda Ada Goostree previously known as Ada Fly. They conceived
my father, Quanna Dean Goostree and we all lived together and they raised me
and my brother Jimmie Dean Goostree. My great uncle Den lived some place South
of Carthage with his wife Lena and they had an antique shop for many years. I
was born in 1948, and around the time I went to Junior High, Den and Lena Moved
to a nice ranch house with some land just a few miles south of Carthage on the
east side of the road on Highway 71, I remember seeing a large pic of Den on a
Tennessee or a Kentucky walking horse. He loved the horse I assume. I believe
my grandmother dated him briefly before marrying his brother John Otis. Later
Lena died. Lena was a domineering woman and was very stern, leaving Den to
appear a little hen-pecked. My grandmother talked freely about them in a
gossipy sense. After a while, Den met a wonderful woman named Billy. They were
both 70ish by then but they were blissfully in love. They'd kiss and cuddle at
every opportunity. After a few years, Den died, and his sons tried to keep
Billy from keeping their inheritance, but my grandmother backed and advised her
to keep what she deserved. This may be off on the dates a bit, as I now
recollect Billy and Den being in my Dad's Bicycle shop in Carthage when I was
probably around 13 which would be 1961? Judging from the pic, I believe this
may very well be Den/Dennis."
The oldest girl was
Jewett Pearle Goostree (born 1897) and the younger was Bessie May Goostree
(born 1900). They were the children of Charles Watson Goostree. The oldest girl
married three times. Information submitted by Bessie Mae Goostree and David Goostree
