TREASURE BOX OF OLD PHOTOS

Photos that had no real value and that were placed in an album, stored in a shoe box, buried in a drawer or kept safe in a family Bible are now valuable treasures to those of us who do genealogy.  Since family photos are all that remain from yesterday to tell us about the features of our ancestors we treasure the ones that we find.   

It is an unselfish act and cost nothing to post a photo so please consider sharing your old family photos with our web site, so that others may also enjoy your treasures.

There is no greater feeling than seeing a photo of one of your ancestors for the first time so take a walk through these pages and see the treasures that await your discovery.

Obituaries, Death Certificates & the Cemetery Project

Barry County researchers are presently photographing all the headstones in the county. And also obituaries, death notices and death certificates are also being added to our files.  

Submission Guidelines For Cemetery Photos:

• The subject line of e-mail must state the cemetery name.

• Send each cemetery in a separate e-mail message - no mixed messages, please.

• Crop all photos that have been scanned. Please don't send full scanned pages that have white space.

• Please turn photos in a viewing direction - not sideways.

• Try and get photos with readable data.

• Tip - Shaving cream rubbed on a stone helps to highlight names and dates - and does not harm the stone.

• Digital photos are preferred.

• NO PHOTOS ENCLOSED IN WORD OR PDF WILL BE ACCEPTED.

• The size - no smaller than 100 kb and no larger than 300 kb works okay.

• Send photos e-mail in .gif or .jpg format to Donna Cooper

After you have sent your photos -  please add your stone transcription data - online - at this link. 

Submission Guidelines for Obituaries:

• Obituaries - Please type.

• Recent obituaries must be abstracted - remove living people. 

• No Newspaper clippings, please.

• NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS ENCLOSED IN WORD OR PDF FILES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 

• Post in the obit submission file or if for some unknown reason that you must sent them then send a typed copy in Note Pad or Word (rich text format) to Donna Cooper

Submission Guidelines for Death Certificates:

• At the present time I am not accepting these - because I have a big backlog of them on hands.

• Please send in .jpg format if sending a hard copy.

• NO HARD COPIES IN WORD OR PDF FILES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

School and Family Photos:

• Scan the photo or yearbook

• Save in .jpg or in .gif format (Between 100 KB and 300 Kb works best.)

• Type an email messages with information about the photo - giving a date if possible.

• Attach the photo to the email message.

• Please do not send photos inside a Word Document or enclosed in PDF, because none will be accepted.

• Send to Donna Cooper by e-mail.

• If you have a yearbook and want to put it on disc and mail it to me - then drop me a note and I'll let you know about the details for snail mail.

If you do not have a scanner you can submit photos by having a quality photocopy made at a place like Wal-Mart or Kinko's and then snail mail it to Donna.  I will scan the photo for you and place it online. If you want it returned - please tell me so that I will know to do so.
