Donna Cooper's Note:

Blanche Carlin was born in Oct. 1888, Earl Frank Carlin was born Dec. 14, 1893 and Ruth Carlin was born Nov. 5, 1900 so that information might help to date the photo.

Perhaps the child that Sherman is holding isn't Earl Franklin, because after some more study it was learned that Joseph's obit was published in 1893 and so he did died in 1893 as the family has recorded. The census and WW I draft records both date Earl's birth as 1893. I suggest that the child Sherman is holding is Blanche who was born in 1888 and that this photo probably was taken in 1890 or so as Damien estimated.
