Served in the Civil War, Union Soldier from Connecticut

Descendant of Gov. William Bradford who came on the Mayflower

Jim and Nettie homesteaded land in Gage Co., NE in 1868. They lived in sod house on the prairie. They moved to Springfield, MO in 1895 and to Barry County in the late winter or early spring of 1896 and bought the Cornelius Westfall place at the top of Greasy Creek Hill near Washburn. They came to Missouri for Jim's health.

He had two buckskin mules named Pete and Dolly that he plowed his strawberries with and on Sunday morning he would hitch them to a wagon and they would all ride to church.
