Note from Bill Landers
These families from the Capps Creek Area of Barry Co. migrated to Williamson and Travis Counties, Texas about 1860. James P and nancy (Sikes) Pugh Labon and Nancy (Wells) Stewart John and July Ann (Ledger) Starkey Member of the Andrew Jackson Wells family. These families intermarried in Barry Co. and continued that trend after they resettled. Young men from these families were killed in Barry County, others died in the Confederate service. Perhaps a member of our small research group knows where the Robinson Pugh marriage took place, possibly Texas but more likely California where James Purvey and Elizabeth (Stewart) Pugh settled. Will forward your message to our group as not all members are on the Barry List. bill

DODWELL posted by Randy L. Moore on Monday, September 25, 2000

I am searching for anyone who might have information on the "Dodwell" family. My g-grandfather, Frederick W. Dodwell, came from Shrewsbury, England sometime in the 1880's, and settled in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was married there in 1891; my uncle William was born there in 1892, and my grandfather Harry was born there in 1894. I know that some of the "England" family members (probably Frederick's nephew(s), also a Harry) also happened to come to Missouri, probably sometime early in the 1900's, and settled in the Springfield region. Apparently, the elder English Harry visited my grandfather Harry in Poplar Bluff in the late 1940's. Ironically, both Harrys had sons named Vernon. Anyway, the families did not stay close, and have since drifted apart. As I am trying to research my English relatives, I thought that if there are any relatives of THIS Dodwell branch, we could both re-establish contact between two branches, as well as possibly share information on older generations. Anything might help.

MOSS posted by Myrna Schosser on Saturday, October 7, 2000

I am looking for information on James & Margaret Moss, listed on both the 1870 and 1880 census of White River Township, Barry County. In 1870, they had 2 children...a son James, 3 years old, who it turns out was Margaret's son by a previous marriage (Troy or Tracy), and born in Illinois. They also had a daughter, Emma, 1 year old at the time. Emma has been the main focus of my research. The family has always said that she was Cherokee. I'm wondering if anyone has any information on this family, or if someone could tell me if there are marriage books that could be searched for their marriage....presumably sometime between 1867 & 1870. Thanks. I really appreciate any and all help. Myrna
