1919 Washburn School

Washburn School, Barry Co., MO - 1919

We need your help to tell us who is pictured here!

Third row from top, second from left, next to boy with hat, might be Lawrence Mooney. He was born in 1910.

The woman with the dark colored dress, standing up on the left is Mrs. Perkins and the children around her are those of her class. See this school photo for those children.  In among those children is Clara Henbest.

Also in this photo is Ruth Berryhill, probably the person who is third from the left of the man standing side ways.

The 1920 census taker listed these children as being in school in the Washburn School District. It's possible some of them were in rural schools near the Washburn School such as Wayne or Rock Springs. For instance the Anderson, Edens, Fine, Barnes, Herd and Roller children could have been in school at Rock Springs or in the Peoples School. The Hopkins and Hayworth children might have been in school at the Washburn Prairie School, another rural school.

Some of the older boys were in the military are were not in school but may have attended some part of the school year and so they were listed by the census taker as school children. Loyd Mooney would probably be one of those who'd already left for the military service, and maybe back home again, because he enlisted in 1917. Even though the census states he was in school that is doubtfully correct.

Lenear Henbest and Ruth Berryhill are among those pictured in the 1920 graduation photo.
