HILLIS / CLARK CEMETERY (#66)

T23N R7E SEC 10

Map # 12 u

This is a landmark cemetery for the area. The oldest known stone has a death date of 1877, but we can reasonably assume that there may be graves which are older than that. Families buried in this cemetery represent the ‘old line’ names - families that are responsible for the growth and development of  the area bordering the Black River between Carola and  Ash Hill.

HILLIS, Jacob   [son of Samuel, above, is said to be buried in Hillis Cemetery. No marker is now found for him]

HILLIS, Samuel, d. 1867

[according to family tradition, Samuel is buried on the hill on what was the family farm. Two of  his              sons, Robert and Jacob, along with their families, are buried in this cemetery. It is likely that this is             also the place that Samuel is buried]
