SPARKMAN CEMETERY  (#20)

earlier sometimes referred to as

CANE CREEK

T25N R5E SEC 21

Map #6u

One of the oldest cemeteries in the county, the land was originally owned by W. W. Sparkman. Many Butler County pioneers and their families are buried here. The old Military Crossing road is nearby and was used by both the Union and the Confederacy. It is quite likely there are Civil War soldiers from both sides buried here. There are a great many unmarked graves or graves marked only by fieldstone. Being near the Cane Creek community, in the past this cemetery was sometimes referred to as ‘Cane Creek’.
