My family was once settled in Butler County. My Granny moved to
California in 1953 but my Aunt remained in Poplar Bluff and sent her
newspaper clippings from the local newspaper. Granny died in 1999.

These clipping are contributed in the memory of my grandmother

  Poplar Bluff, Mo.  Wed., Feb. 8, 1956 AT FT CARSON
Captain Louis I. Curit, son of Mrs. Paul Luckett, Route 4, has assumed
duties as commanding officer of the Eighth Signal Corps at Ft. Carson,
Colo. He has been in service since 1942 and has served in both Europe
and Japan.

BIRTHS
Mr. and Mrs Max McBroom of Neelyville are the parents of a seven pound
10 ounce baby boy born yesterday morning at 11:40 at the Lucy Lee
Hospital. The little boy has been named George Daniel.

Newlyweds Cut Wedding Cake
 WEDDING PHOTO 
Pvt. 1/c and Mrs. Clinton Fredwell cut the first piece of their wedding
cake at a reception held in the dining room of the Second Baptist
Church following their wedding Tuesday evening. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eli Sliger and he the son of Mr. and Mrs. Connie Fredwell,
all of this city.

  MELBA HIGHTOWER BECOMES BRIDE OF ROGER LEE HENSON   PHOTO of MELBA
Miss Melba Joyce Hightower, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hightower of
Broseley, became the bride of the Rev. Roger Lee Henson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. J. Henson of Bell City, Mo., at 2 Sunday afternoon in the new
Lone Oak Baptist Church, south of Broseley. The Rev. Paul Brown read
the vows for the double ring ceremony.
Miss Betty Shackleford presided at the piano and accompanied Miss Mary
We Batten as she sang "I Love You Trudy." Miss Shackleford also played
the traditional wedding marches. 
Miss Pansy Reeves, attired in a gray suit with black and white
accessories, was maid of honor. Eugene Pope of Bell City was best man.
The bride wore a navy blue suit with navy blue and white accessories and
a shoulder corsage of white carnations.
Immediately after the ceremony a reception was given at the home of the
brides parents.
The former Miss Hightower of Broseley. is member of the senior class at
Broseley High School.The bridegroom was graduated at the Bell City High
School in the class of 1949.

BUSINESS  ESTABLISHMENTS   Photo of Nellyville

in Neelyville bordered the Missouri Pacific Railroad tracks at the turn  of
the century. The depot  at  right  was  the  hub  of  travel  and  shipping
activity. Looking southwardly, the business structures on the left  include
the Dave Hill Building identified as the  Biggs  Store,  the  Grandpa  John
McCormick Building, a package  liquor  store,  George  Abington's  father's
store in the Stienburg Building and the Christian Church. At right  is  the
John Borden Lumber Company yard. Mrs. Freedonia Oakes, Neelyville, provided
the early photo reproduced above through  the  courtesy  of  Mr.  and  Mrs.
Malcolm Turner, Route 1, Neelyville. The photo  was  made  on  October  25,
1901.

   LOCAL COUPLE AND FRIENDS OBSERVE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARIES
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Cook of this city and their friends, Mr. and Mrs. T.
E. Campbell of Qulin, observed their Golden Wedding Anniversaries
together Sunday. The celebration was held at the Cook home, Highway 53
and Cross Street, and attended by a host of friends and relatives of
both couples.
Mrs. Cook is the former Effie Gibson and was born near Dyersburg, Tenn.,
Jan. 2. 1883. Mr. Cook was born near Newburn, Tenn., Aug. 10, 1881.
They were married at Dyersburg Dec. 4. 1901. The Cooks came to Butler
County in 1910 and have resided here for the past 41 years.  
The Campbells were married Nov. 3, 1901 and have been residents of
Butler county for the past 34 years. The former Alice Bryant, Mrs.
Campbell was born Jan. 26, 1884 in Madison county near Fredericktown.
Mr. Campbell was born in Alabama June 22, 1884. They are the parents of
11 children, eight of which are living, 24 grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren. The children include: Mrs. John Purdom, St. Louis; George
T. Campbell, Poplar Bluff; Mrs. Rhodie Rohlfs, H. R. Campbell and L. M.
Campbell, Antioch, Calif.; Mrs. Margaret Barnes, St. Louis; W. E.
Campbell, Poplar Bluff and R. M. Campbell, St. Louis.
