owned by Mr. Wilson, and powered by a horse which walked slowly around and around while Ankle Jim Wise, or later Charlie Wise, sitting in one of the seats on the swing, played a fiddle.
Ice skating, sleigh riding and hay rides were enjoyed by the young people. Extra-curricular activities at the school, as well as church and community activities were and continue to be a source of diversion for all ages.
The Clever P.T.A. was organized November 21, 1932, with thirty-seven members and the following officers: President, Mrs. Rosa Sullivan; Vice President, Mrs. Inez Frazier; Treasurer, Mrs. Pet Jones; Secretary, Mrs. Rolla Hayes. The P.T.A. under the presidency of Mrs. Rosa Sullivan started the hot lunch program at school by serving hot chocolate at the noon hour. Later, soup was served and finally a well balanced lunch. Some other health projects sponsored by the P.T.A. have been T. B. tests and x-rays; diphtheria immunizations, followed by Schick tests; smallpox and typhoid vaccinations; and eye examinations. Several pairs of glasses have been bought. Their chief concern has always been the underprivileged child.
The Clever Lions Club was organized March 28, 1948. Members hold regular meetings in the Lion's Den which was formerly the Wise Hill School Building. The present officers are: President, Paul Estes; Secretary, E. E. Solomon; Treasurer, Harold Wampler, Jr.; Lion tamer, Leo Ghan; Tail twister, Kyle Luce. Their projects are eye examinations for children believed to be in need of eyeglasses or eye treatment, and the annual Santa Claus Parade, with a program and a treat for all children of the area.
The Clever 4-H Club was organized March 12, 1954 in the home
of Paul and Vivian Estes, who have served as community leaders for
five years. Present officers are: President, Jerry L. Maples; Vice
president, Rex Lehman; Secretary, Connie Estes; Song leader, Janith
Green; Game leaders, Jimmy Jones and Bobby Thomas; Sergeant at
arms, Johnny Hart. Leaders who have served since organization are:
Electricity, Kimmie Hart; Clothing, Audie Lehman; Foods, Millie Kerr.
