The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society is pleased the latest deed abstracts book by Cape Girardeau Co. genealogist and land expert Bill Eddleman. Abstracts of Cape Girardeau County Deeds, Books M-O, 1846-1850 is the result of many hours of abstracting deeds, and encompasses a period in which dozens of German immigrants flooded into Cape Girardeau Co. and purchased land. Abstracts include date of transaction and recording, grantor, grantee, compensation paid, heirs in cases of land division, land parcel descriptions, spouses (in many cases), and names of all witnesses. Used in combination with previous books in the series, the book may be used to follow chain of title or used to identified unrecorded sales. The every name index includes all names mentioned in the deeds, and there are also separate indices for slaves and locations.
is the long-time and current President of the Cape Girardeau County Genealogical
Society. He is the author of over 20 genealogical publications for the Society,
and has published land records for Perry and Stoddard counties in Missouri, and
Haywood County in North Carolina. He has also written dozens of articles for
local genealogical society publications. An ornithologist and wildlife biologist
by profession, he is currently the Vice Provost and Dean of the School of
Graduate Studies at Southeast Missouri State University.
