James W. Edwards/ Irving W. Edwards

1. N ½ of SE ¼ of S11, T27, R22 and SW ¼ of NE ¼ of S11, T27, R22 containing 120 acres. From James W. Edwards to Irving W Edwards, 29 November 1866: 

Know all men by these presents that I James W Edwards of the county of Christian and the state of Missouri for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to me in hand paid have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto Irving W. Edwards of the county of Christian and State of Missouri all that certain parcel of land situate (sic) in the said county of Christian and state of Missouri and described as follows the North half of the South East quarter of section (11) Eleven Town (27) Range (22) and the south west quarter of the north east quarter Sec (11) Eleven Town (27) Range (22) containing one hundred and twenty acres more of less with all the appurtenances and all the rights title interest claim and demand of me in the said premises to have and to hold the same with the appurtenances unto the said Irving W. Edwards and his heirs in fee _______. (Note: bottom of page not correctly copied-uncertain whether this is the first part of the deed continued below)

James W. Edwards for myself and my heirs do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Irving W. Edwards and his heirs and assigns and that I am now the owner of said premises and am seized of a good and indefensable (sic) estate of inheritance therein and that I have full right and power to sell and convey the same in fee simple absolute that the said premises free and clear from all incumbrances (sic) that the said Irving W. Edwards his heirs and assigns may forever hereafter have and hold and possess and enjoy without any suit or molestation or interruption by any person whatever lawfully claiming any right therein and that the said James W Edwards and all persons hereafter claiming under me will at any time hereafter at the request and expense of the said Irving W Edwards his heirs and assigns make all such further assurances for more effectual conveying of the said premises with the appurtenances as may be reasonably required of him or them and that I the said James W Edwards and my heirs will warrant and defend the said premises with the appurtenances unto the said Irving W Edwards and his heirs and assigns forever.

James W. Edwards/Christian County

Mortgage Deed between James W Edwards and Christian County dated 29 May 1867 for NE ¼ of NW ¼ S14, T 27, R 22 and SE ¼ of SW ¼ S14, T 27, R 22.

(i.e., J W Edwards taking out a mortgage on the property to receive $158, Wiley B. Faught and John P. Edwards are securities) 

This indenture made and entered into this 29th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven (1867) by and between James W Edwards of the county of Christian in the state of Missouri of the first part and the said county of Christian of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James W. Edwards for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and fifty eight dollars ($158) to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by the presents do grant bargain sell and convey and confirm in fee simple unto the said county of Christian the following described real estate situate (sic) lying and being in said county of Christian to wit the North East (quarter?) of Northwest quarter and the south east quarter of the southwest quarter section fourteen (14) township twenty-seven (27) range twenty-two ( 22) containing eighty (80) acres more or less to have and to hold the above described premises with all of the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining in fee simple forever and this indenture further witnesseth that whereas the said J.W. Edwards as principal and Wiley B. Faught and John P. Edwards as his securities did on the 29th day of May AD 1867 execute and deliver to said county of Christian their certain bond which is in words and figures as follows $158.

Twelve months after date we James W. Edwards as Principal and Wiley B. Faught and John P. Edwards as his securities promise and bind ourselves to pay the county of Christian in the state of Missouri to the use and benefit of the inhabitants of School Township 27 of Range 20-the sum of one hundred fifty eight $(158) dollars for value received bearing two percent sum per annum interest from the date hereof until paid and we further bind ourselves that in default of the payment of the interest what due or failure of the principal in the bond to give additional security when thereto lawfully required-that both the principal and interest become due and payable forthwith the principal and interest shall become due and payable forthwith (repeated?) and that all interest shall if not punctually paid bear the same rate of interest as the principal at given under our hands and seals this 29th day of May 1867. Now if the said James W Edwards his heirs or executors or administrators shall pay or cause to be paid the full amount of the principal and interest of the above recited bond and all cost if any then shall be thence this conveyance shall be null and void. But if default shall be made in the payment of the principal or interest or any part thereof at the time they shall severally become due and payable according to the tenor and effect of the above recited Bond the Sheriff of the County of Christian may without any suit on this mortgage deed proceed to sell the mortgaged premises or any part thereof to satisfy the principal and interest and to make an absolute conveyance thereof in fee to the purchaser which shall be as affected to all intents and purposes as ______ (remaining part not copied).

James W. Edwards/James M. Forrester

Deed from James W Edwards to James M. Forrester, 26 May 1868, south half lot to 13, Block No. 4 in Ozark, Mo.

Know all men by these Presents that James W. Edwards of the county of Christian in the State of Missouri have this day for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five ($75) dollars to me the said James W Edwards in hand paid by James M. Forrester of the county of Christian in the state of Missouri the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do release remise and by these presents forever quit claim unto the said James M. Forrester his heirs and assigns all of my right title interest and demand both in law and equity of in and to the following real estate lying and being in the town of Ozark known and described as follows viz the south half lot to thirteen (13) in Block No. four (4) being in the old town of Ozark and S.E. Edwards wife of the said James W Edwards do hereby relinquish my right of dower of in and to the above described real estate for the consideration aforesaid.

Deed from Irving W. Edwards and Harriet Jane Edwards to Thomas W. Handy, 22 January 1868 for ~45 acres defined by part of NW of NE on E side of said 40 , Section 23, T27, R22 and NE ¼ of NE ¼ of S 23, T27, R 22.

Know all men by these presents that we I W Edwards and Herett (sic-should be Harriet) Jane Edwards his wife of the county of Christian and State of Missouri have this day for and consideration of the sum of Four Hundred dollars ($400) to the said I W Edwards and ____ Edwards (name not filled in) his wife in hand paid by Thomas W. Handy of the county of Christian and State of Missouri have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas W. Handy and to his heirs and assigns the following described tracts or parcels of (word “land” missing) situate in the county of Christian in the state of Missouri. That is, to say, a part of the North West of the North East on the East side of said forty all in Section No. 23 twenty three Township 27 Twenty Seven of Range 22 Twenty Two and the Northeast qr of the North East qr of Section No. 23 twenty three township 27 twenty seven of Range 22 twenty two containing in all forty five acres more or less to have and to hold the premises hereby conveyed with all the rights privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appurtaining (sic) unto the said Thomas W. Handy and to his heirs and assigns forever and we the said I W Edwards and Harett (sic) Jane Edwards his wife hereby covenanting to and with the said Thomas W Handy his heirs and assigns for themselves their heirs executors and administrators to warrant and defend the title of the premises hereby conveyed against the claim of every person whatsoever.

W.B.Faught & Elizabeth Faught/I.W. Edwards

 Deed from W.B. Faught and Elizabeth Faught to I W Edwards, 24 February 1865, for part of the northwest of the northeast on the east side of said forty and the NE ¼ of NE ¼ of S23, T27, R22, containing 45 acres. 

Know all men by these presents that W.B. Faught and Elizabeth Faught of the county of Christian and state of Missouri for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred and fifty dollars ($350) received to our full satisfaction of I W Edwards of the county of Christian and state of Missouri the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged & give grant bargain sell and convey unto the said I W Edwards and to his heirs and assigns the following described tract or parcel of land viz situate in the county of Christian and state of Missouri that is to say a part of the Northwest of the Northeast on the east side of said forty all in section 23 twenty three Township 27 Range 22 and the Northeast Qr of the Northeast quarter of section 23 twenty three township 27 Range 22 containing forty five acres, more or less to have and hold the above granted and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereof to the said I W Edwards his heirs and assigns in fee simple forever to his own proper use and behoof and further we the said W B Faught and E Faught do covenant to and with the said I W Edwards that at and until the unsealing of these presents we well ____? Of the above granted and bargained premises as a good and indefeasable (sic) Estate in fee simple that the same are free from all incumberances (sic) and that well forever warrant and defend the title thereof to the said I W Edwards heirs and assigns against all claims and demands whatever and __? Elizabeth Faught wife of said W B Faught do hereby relinquish key (?) right of dower in and to the above described premises for the consideration aforesaid.

In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 24th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Five.

Be it remembered that W B Faught and Elizabeth Faught his wife who are personally known to the undersigned Justice of the peach within and (sic) the county of Christian and State of Missouri to be the persons whose names are subscribed to the foregoing deed as parties thereto this day appeared before me and acknowledged that they executed and delivered the same as their voluntary act and deed for the uses and purposes therein contained and the said Elizabeth Faught being by me made acquainted with the contents of said_____ (bottom of page, not copied). Deed from James W Edwards to John L. Nokes for 80 acres, dated 22 May 1865 for The North half of the North East quarter Section No. 13, Thirteen in Township No. 27 twenty seven of Range No 22, Twenty Two.

Know all men by these presents that I James W Edwards of the county of Christian and State of Missouri for and in consideration of the sum of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800) received to my full satisfaction of John L. Nokes of the county of Christian and State of Missouri the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do give grant bargain sell and convey unto the said John L. Nokes and to his heirs and assigns the following described lot tract or parcel of land viz. The North half of the North East quarter Section No. 13, Thirteen in Township No. 27 twenty seven of Range No 22, Twenty Two containing eighty acres more or less to have and to hold the above granted and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereof to the said John L. Nokes his heirs and assigns in fee simple forever to his own proper use and behoof. And further I the said James W Edwards do covenant to and with the said John L. Nokes that at and until the unsealing of these presents I was well Seized of the above granted and bargained premises as a good and indefeasible estate in fee simple that the same are free from all encumbrances and that I will forever warrant and defend the title thereof to the said John L. Nokes his heirs and assigns against all claims and demands whatever. And I Martha K Edwards wife of said James W Edwards do hereby relinquish my right of dower in and to the above described premises for the consideration aforesaid.
