Mrs. Streit, 90, Dies in California
Services will be held today in Fresno, Calif., for Mrs. Minnie R. Streit, 90, former Centertown resident who died in a nursing home in Fresno Tuesday afternoon.
For the past 40 years Mrs. Streit had been living in Fresno with a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Swearingen. She suffered a stroke three years ago and was taken to the nursing home.
Born at Centertown, she was the oldest daughter of William R. (Uncle Billy) Fletcher and Elizabeth Electa Clark Fletcher. She was educated in Centertown schools and was married to George R. Streit on Dec 22, 1889. The couple had six children.
Her husband and a seven-year-old daughter, Ollie, were fatally burned in a fire at their home 11/2 miles south of Centertown on the night of Feb. 1, 1905. The rest of the family escaped.
Survivors beside Mrs. Swearingen include three sons, Lawrence, Harold, and James, all of Fresno; two sisters, Mrs. Anna J. Boucher of Kansas City and Mrs. Etta Boger of Fresno; two brothers, Rev. George A. Fletcher of Fresno and J.C. Fletcher of Centertown; six grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
