Looking for a RUSSELL family. They might be of DeKalb
County, but because Photographers of the period traveled around
taking pictures, they may not have been here. The photographer is
from Maysville, DeKalb Co. Definitely, it is unknown where these
folks might have lived.
I have come across a collection of photos in a sale. I'd like to make an attempt to locate family before the collection goes to a dealer for sale. I have extracted all tidbits from them, and present this to you in case you can help indentify possible family members who might want to know of them.
First, there is a personal letter dated 13 October 1942, from "E.L.H.", who mentions sending a letter to Box 173, and mentions "Louise", of that address, no further address. It mentions that the writer has a Marine, and an 18 year old. Can't determine the gender of the author. Identified picture 3 people, woman, mother? of boy and girl, about teenager's. On back, it reads "Stella Russell, Amity, MO". Amity is not on my MO. atlas, and possibly is extinct.
The balance of the photos are all about pre 1900, or thereabouts, giving these photographers, or towns:
| Subject: | Photographer: | Location on photo of photog: |
| young girl, about 6 | Morgan, photog. | Maysville, MO |
| young boy, 8? and baby | Morgan, photog. | Maysville, MO |
| baby | Roberts, photog | Stewartsville, MO |
| baby | Miller, photog | 813 Francis St., St. Joseph, MO |
| Adult male, 40's | Photograph given Free on account of buying a pair of Shoes at Condon's Store | Oswego, KS |
| adult male, early 20's, or bit younger | Photograph given Free on account of buying a pair of Shoes at Condon's Store | Oswego, KS |
| baby, about 1yr | R.A. Marivn | Olathe, KS |
| Young adult male, 20's | E. R. Rose, Photog. | South Commercial St., Oswego, KS |
| Baby | J.E. SMoot, photog | Collinsville, I-T |
| Baby | Cretor's Studio | photog. |
| Baby, two photos | W. B. Rich | 712 Centre? |
One picture of a house, family standing in front: looks like mother, about 50's; daughter, her husband, two children boy and girl, and another son, of the older mother facing the opposite direction, who looks to be in his 20's. So does daughter, mother of the two children. The house is large, single story, and may have some sort of printing on the door, possibly it is a business at home? All family is lined up out front. Other nearby houses indicate it is in a town. The house has brick corner posts on the porch, about half way up. There is a sidewalk in front. Clothing is late 1880's-1900? maybe.
Looks like the family was in Olathe, Johnson, Ks; Oswego, Labette, KS; Stewartsville, & and St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., MO; and Maysville, DeKalb Co., MO.
That's not much to go on, but I hope someone knows enough about their family movements to think this might be their family. The only concrete thing is the Stella Russell name, the initials E.L.H. person; and KS & MO residences. I hope someone can identify and claim these photos of their family. Time is of the essence, I have them only to try and locate family online, before they get sold.

I am searching for information about my Great-grandparents, John
Martin and Malinda (or Matilda) BLACKBURN. John M. was
listed on the 1900 census for MO in DeKalb County along with his
youngest daughter; Ora M. There could have been other children in
the area that were already gone from home. Some of the other
children's names were: Ara A. Eliza, Ira R., Mary E., and Luella
or Lou Etta. As my great-grandmother; Malinda was not listed on
the 1900 census, I think she may have already died; maybe around
the time Ora M. was born in 1882. Prior to living in DeKalb
County, (around Union Star Village), the family lived in Andrew
County. Any information regarding this family would be greatly
appreciated.

Name: Margaret Murphy
My GGrandfather & GGrandmother, William & Mary (Gannon) MURPHY
came from Wicklow and Dublin, Ireland respectively, to Brooklyn,
New York where they were married (I have the priest's name) in a
Catholic ceremony in 1860-61. They came to Dekalb County, settled
in Stewartsville where he worked for the Hannibal St. Joseph RR (on
the section). My grandfather, James was born January 19, 1870,
and his sister Margaret (Maggie) was born May, 1871. He also
worked for the Rock Island RR and CB&Q, which later became
Burlington. He worked in several other areas: Meersville,
Lineville, (Iowa), Halls Station, Winthrop, Corning, Flatbush (?),
Bolchow, Craig, Maryville and Bolchow. James followed in his
footsteps, working for CB&Q and Burlington. James eventually
settled in St. Joseph. I'm not sure if his parents did. He
married Ada (Fickel) in Marysville, Nodaway County at his
parent's home on October 1, 1893. My father Lawrence Leslie (born
May 15, 1916 in St. Joseph) was the next to the last of 7
children (I have their names, etc.) and placed in a Catholic
orphanage when he was 7 (abt 1923). The bulk of this information
was given to my father in 1945, a few months before James passed
away. His mother passed away in 1961. I am looking for all of the
vital records on these people (birth & death certificates,
batismal records, including information on the RR, the orphanage,
Sister's School, Christian Brother's Commercial College, family
contacts, cemetery, deeds, wills, church affiliation, everything!
