Search in the following files for the name of a person or place.  Take note of the Journal issue date and the page number.  Then look in the Cumulative Table of Contents to identify the article in which that person or place was mentioned.  The Society sells back issues of all 49 Journals for $8.00 ($6.00 plus $2.00 shipping).  Send your order to the Douglas County Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc., P.O.Box 986, Ava, MO 65608.

Background of the Journal: Over thirty years ago (July 10, 1973), 25 individuals gathered at the General Baptist Church in Ava to organize the Douglas County Historical and Genealogical Society.  Initial officers were Glen Dale Hartley, President; Geneva McCullough, Vice-President; Secretary, Marilyn Alms; and Zona Hightower, Treasurer.  One year later (July, 1974), the Society published the first Journal.  Except for the 1979 through 1984 period, during which it was inactive, the Society continued to publish Journals with delightful stories, remembrances, and family information; each one of the Journals has its own personality like a block of a patchwork quilt.  Collectively, the 56 Journals published from 1974 through Summer 2010 are slowly developing into a large but still incomplete mosaic of the history of Douglas County, Missouri.  It has become one the most valuable historical resources available about the county and its inhabitants, past and present.

Back Issues: Copies of every issue of the Journal are available from the Douglas County Hist. & Gen. Society, P.O. Box 986, Ava, MO 65608.  The cost is $8.00 per issue ($6.00 plus $2.00 shipping).
