The Reunion at Ava Came to a Close Last
Thursday Afternoon
WEDNESDAY WAS THE BIG DAY. The Old Veterans Enjoyed
Listening to the Short
Talks of the Experiences
of the Different Ones Present.
The third annual reunion
of the Blue and Grey came to a close last Thursday afternoon after a three
days
session.
With the exceptions of the
first day there was a good crowd of people present. The weather was favorable,
with the exception of being dry and dusty, and there was nothing to mar
the
occasion. The people that assembled were comfortable and seemed to
enjoy themselves.
On Wednesday afternoon Rev.
G.G. Maple delivered an address which touched responsive chords in the
hearts of his hearers and more closely united the veterans of the north
and south, which showed that
sectionalism was wiped out and that we all
stand on one common level and are ready at all times to take
up arms in
defense of the old flag: and that with our improved implements of war and
with our army and
our navy, made up of men - sons of those that wore
the blue and the grey -
we bid defiance to all
opposition.
At night there was a very
interesting programme carried out, consisting of marshal music, singing
by the
choir and short talks was the veterans present. Uncle Sambo
and Aunt Dinnah gave a very interesting
sketch of negro life which was
appreciated by those present. After which Attorney John W. Murray
delivered the following address which was listened to with marked
attention:
[Speech not included]
The following veterans
