Lyon School circa 1935 - two photos

Photo provided by Dennis Horstmann. His father, still living in 2003, is Ervin Raymond William Horstmann, who was born May 7, 1919. He is the tall boy, back row second from right, with suspenders.  to your left (or his right) is Robert Sprecklemeyer; to Ervin's left (or your right), with only the top of his head visible is Lester Lee  Tugel;  In front of Lester, the boy with a white shirt  and open dark sweater is Kenneth Sprecklemeyer.  Small boy  in front of Kenneth, with  dark overhalls is  Ervin's  youngest brother, Ralph C Horstmann Sr. (born March 22, 1928, died January 31, 1998).
The teacher, Clara Grannemann, is the the back row, second from left. The girl in the back row  with a flower covering her left eye is Gladys Meyer.  The blonde girl in  the center of the middle row, her  head in front and touching the white  porch post is  Ervin's oldest sister Virginia "Irene" (Horstmann) Schinzing (born January 11, 1923, died January 8, 2003).

Irene nee (Horstmann) Schnizing- Seiler was buried Jan 11th on her 80th birthday. She was the second child of Alvin & Ella (Dahl) Horstmann of Berger, MO buried in Stony Hill. Her grandparents were Charles & Mary (Becker) Horstmann buried at Senate Grove.
SEILER-SCHINZING, V. IRENE (nee Horstmann), asleep in Jesus, Wednesday, January 8, 2003; beloved wife of Melvin O. Seiler & the late Oliver F. Schinzing; dear mother of Gerald L. (Gena) Schinzing, Diane J. Albin, Stephen A. (Melinda) Schinzing & stepmother of Barbara C. (John) Mennel; dear grandmother of 8 & great-grandmother of 12; sister of Ervin R. (Audrey) , Herbert "Gene" (Hilda) , Alice M.deceased (Roy)Walkenhorst,and Ralph C.deceased (Lavern) Horstmann; our aunt, great-aunt, cousin & friend to many. Mrs. Seiler was an avid gardner & was known for her love of flowers. Funeral service a the SCHRADER Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Saturday, Jan. 11, 11:30 a.m. Interment Sunset Memorial Park, Affton. If desired, contributions may be made to Lafayette Church of Christ, 115 New Ballwin Rd., Ballwin, MO 63021 or St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 11735 Denny Rd., Sappington, MO 63126. Visitation Friday, 3-9 p.m.

Ervin was the son of Alvin E. and Ella (nee Dahl) Horstmann. He is buried at St. James UCC [E&R] at Stony Hill. Alvin's father was Charles F. Horstmann and his mother was Marry (Becker) Horstmann, both of whom are buried at Senate Grove Church.
