The following information concerning post offices in Gasconade County was secured from postal records in the U.S. Archives in Washington, D.C. The microfilm was read and data organized by Dr. George E. Kohrman. The post offices are listed in order of date of establishment. Postmasters usually served until their successors were named. Sometimes it became necessary to discontinue a post office temporarily if the postmaster resigned or moved to another community. The dates of retirement or resignation were often included in the reports of recent years.

Postal records may be obtained from the Archives which show the exact geographical site location of the post office. Often a change in postmasters resulted in a post office site change. Post offices were located in homes, business establishments, or, in recent years, buildings provided by the government. At the turn of the century, the introduction of rural free delivery (R.F.D.) and the continued improvement of the transportation system were major factors in the closing of many of the smaller rural post offices.
