Stephen and his wife Rebecca were both born in TN, probably around
1815. They were in Gasconade Co. at least as early as 1837. From the book, A Directory of 20 Counties In The Missouri River Valley From Kansas City. MO To St Louis MO in the chapter on Historic Herman, page 163 it mentions that the 17 German Pioneers of the advance party of the German settlerment probably would not have made it through the winter of 1837/1838. without the help of three farmers in the region, Willis Hensley, Polly Phillips, a Widow and Stephen Atlins. Children born to Stephen and Rebecca; In Gasconade Co. Bolware Township, P.O. Who was she? > Jane Vandergriff doesn't appear on the 1860 census but now there is a Jane Vanmeator or something like that with two children, Thomas and Rebecca. These are certainly Atkins type names. Who are these people? The last record I find of Stephen, he is alone on the Missouri State census of 1864, still in Gasconade Co. MO. William ( above ) was my g. Grandfather. He married circa 1856 a Mary Smith ?? Who was born in TN. The first child was Mary Frances 1857 John. I am interested in finding descendants of Robert Frasure who took his land grant after 1806 in Franklin/Gasconade Counties. And any other information on him. Thank you so very much for offering to post a notice. I dont know exactly where it was except I am informed it was on the Gasconade River and was the land grant given by Thomas Jefferson for his service to Lewis and Clark. The land possibly could be in what is now Franklin County also. Since as you say, this is pre-county formation. I am a member of the Idaho Governor's Advisory on the Lewis and Clark Trail and we are researching its members. Also my family legend is that I am related to him through the Frasure family of Kentucky. So I have a dual purpose. Thanks again for your assistance. I am anxious to find out about any family descendants in your area. Robert Frasure was literate and drew maps and kept a journal although we have not yet found his journal. I am Lloyd Ellis and live in Cabool MO (Texas County). I am researching my family history, and believe my ancestors lived/born in Gasconade County in the 1820-1830's. My grandfather was Samuel Esty Ellis b. 1891 d. 1938 in Wright County. His Father was Samuel George Ellis, b ??? d. 1893 in Wright county. I am having problems connecting Samuel George, to my other known relatives but I did find William Benjamin(Buck) Ellis who was born in Gasconade County Sept 11, 1825. I believe this Wm Benjamin is either Samuel George Ellis' brother, or, Benjamin Ellis(Wm Benjamin's father) may be Samuel George Ellis brother. At any rate, I would be interested if you have any reference to Samuel George Ellis in the Gasconade County birth records in abt 1820 thru 1840. Samuel Esty (Samuel George's son) had the following brothers and sisters. Henry, Malcena, Tennesy,Eunice,Dosh, Virgil Roy, and Samuel Esty. (Esty was the youngest child of Samuel George Ellis and Amanda Adeline (Hargis) Ellis. I realize this is a bit of a long shot, but would appreciate any info you might have. If my hunch is correct, Wm Benjamin Ellis and Samuel George Ellis are probably brothers. I did find a Riley(Doc) Ellis that I confirmed as Wm Benjamin Ellis' brother. Thanks for any help you can give on the Ellis Family of Gasconade County.

James married Malinda Davis in 1850 in Franklin Co. and went by wagon train to Oregon in the spring of 1851, these are my great-great grandparents. Uriah apparently died between 1840 & 50.
