So You Have Decided to Adopt A County!    Welcome to our Team!!!

There are just a few basic guidelines.

                 USGenWeb Official Logo

          USGenWeb Requirements

          Our Official USGenWeb ByLaws

Our project is "The USGenWeb Project" (Note the spelling in caps and lower case.
Never use "Genweb"; that name belongs to someone else)

We require the project name and official logo on your site, with a link to the project's main page
          http://www.usgenweb.org/.

Every site must provide a query page

Every site should provide some "basic" research help for their county.

Every site must have a pointer to the MOGenWeb Project State Page.

It is recommended that every page carry the following copyright notice:

Copyright © 2xxx by (the name of the coordinator). Be sure to update the year.

More information is available at USGenWeb Web Design & Maintenance

          MOGenWeb Project Requirements

Our state project is called "The MOGenWeb Project" (Note the spelling in caps and lower case. Never use the term "Genweb",  that name belongs to someone else)
You will be added to the MO coordinator's list (MOGEN-L). This list is used is for communication between the State Coordinator (SC),  Assistant State Coordinators (ASC), all County Coodinators (CC) and Special Project Volunteers. It is mandatory for all CCs to remain subscribed to MOGEN; however you may request from the SC to be subscribed to the digest version (MOGEN-D).
The list is not to be used for finding your ancestors, but rather to discuss how the MOGenWeb Project operates and to share questions and expertise among the MOGenWeb Project staff. All volunteers and their opinions will be treated with respect (no inflammatory remarks). Our focus is on current and future MOGenWeb coordination. Standard netiquette applies - no foul language or personal insults will be tolerated.
MOGenWeb understands that a volunteer may wish to maintain pages for the same county for both MOGenWeb and AHLN (or any other potential group).  The only policy that MOGenWeb has in this instance is that the county sites should be separate (although they may be duplicates, except for the links and logos each association requires).
The MOGenWeb Project Logo must be on each site's main page.
We recommend the logo be visible when a user first arrives at your page.

          NOTICE!
Placing any data or links on MOGenWeb pages in return for payment is clearly in conflict with the spirit of the USGenWeb Project to provide free data. Our policy is that it is not acceptable here and we hope that this policy would extend to all of the USGenWeb.

Have lots of raw data for your site, but no web space to put it? Then the USGenWeb Archives is for you!

The MOGenWeb Archives has a site for each MO county, with a link back to that county. The site is merely a
Table of Contents of files that have been submitted.

Visitors to your county Archive Page can freely download and add information about the county.

Rootsweb has provided us with the space and a fantastic search engine to search our archives. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm

I'd appreciate it if you could all check your pages for the following basic requirements:

                  * your own e-mail address and name, or a pseudonym, through which you can be contacted; this should be easy to find on your home (main) page

                  * the state and national USGenWeb logos. If anybody still has the old "GenWeb" spiderweb logo, please take that down.  There are legal reasons why we can't display it. (Our official logo may only be displayed on official MOGenWeb and USGenWeb pages.)

*Copyrights:  The layouts designed by the CC are the property of the CC. No copyrighted materials shall be uploaded without the permission of the authors.  No copyrighted materials from any publication copyrighted within 75 years from now shall  be allowed into archives without written permission of the owners of the copyright.

                  * nothing offensive,  political or religious displays do not belong on MOGenWeb county pages

                  * a link back to the main state index page:

                   http://www.rootsweb.com/~mogenweb/mo.htm

                  * a prominent link to your own query page.  I've noticed that some pages just have an entry for "surnames" or "family research" or something else. Could you modify these so that the word "query" shows up someplace on the first page, please?

Items not required, but highly desirable:

                  * working links to your neighboring counties

                  * address and web link, if available, to the local genealogical/historical
society for your area, and to the local public library

                  * a surname list, either generated from the query list or created
separately, of people researching particular surnames

                  * basic history of your county - when formed, from what parent county,
county seat, etc.  If the county seat or other towns in your county have
their own civic web pages, you might want to add links to those also.

Thanks, everyone, for your hard work!
