Kirkley Chapel was organized in 1889 following a tent revival meeting. Legend has it that the church was named after the traveling minister, Kirtley Little, who conducted the revival, but the founders of the church got the name wrong, changing the t to k. It has been Kirkley Chapel ever since. The church is still in use for weekly services and the cemetery is very well cared for.

All stones that were present on April 29, 2002, when this survey was conducted by Phil and Kathi Stewart, are listed beginning at the northwest corner of the cemetery and working south, then back up to the north end to begin row two, and so on.
