DO YOU KNOW? Is This Lonesome or Monkey Wrench School?

A photo of school children, gathered in front of an old school building, was given to the Society by Esther Childers Patterson. Handwritten on the back was "Monkey Wrench School". It used to be directly across the road from the Gerald Patterson home.  In Society school files the same photo is found in the Lonesome School history; written on the back is "1874, Lonesome School", donated by Eloise True. Monkey Wrench would have been located east of Mound City; Lonesome would be in the Craig area. Anyone have any idea? Please contact us if you know!

***Be sure to Check out the “What Do You Remember” column in the  Mound City News each week! Thanks to Publisher Adam Johnson for providing the space for the Holt County Historical Society to recall Holt County memories along with finding answers to queries and to identify historical photographs!
