Directions: About three miles south of Norris, on the west side of "O" Hwy, between two houses.
Condition: Occasionally mowed.
History: On April 9, 1895, the trustees of a newly formed Baptist group, William M. Morgan, William Page and George Powers, paid William H. Childers $70 for two acres of land to be used for a church building. Ground work was started and supplies purchased. The building was finished by the end of the year. In November of 1896, William S. Swart and his wife Julia A. R. Swart sold the Church another connecting acre to the north for $100, to be used as a cemetery. The first to be buried (as far as we can tell from the records) was Elizabeth, the wife of J. C. Cornelius, who died Sep 3, 1897. About the year 1909, the church was badly damaged by lightning and the congregation used the Victor School house for their meetings until repairs were made. On June 15, 1912, less than 16 years after it's completion, Alva Powers, who lived nearby, stood on his porch and watched a tornado rip the church to pieces. The Salem Church was never rebuilt and members were forced to disband and join in with other organizations in the area.
