Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Jun 17 2005 - Deryl Wayne Burch, 58, died Sunday, June 12, 2005. He was born on October 6, 1946, on a small farm north of Clinton. Deryl was the second son of Willa "Ethel" (Brown) Burch and George Marvin Burch. He attended Curtis Country School and Clinton Public Schools graduating from Clinton Senior High in 1964. Deryl married Darlene Woody in 1967. He attended CMSU and graduated from Finley School of Engineering of KCMO in 1968. While in his junior year of college, he went to work part time for Howard, Needles, Tammen and Bergendorf of KCMO. When Deryl graduated from college he decided to join the United States Marine Corps Reserve where he served as a Mission Plan and Brief Specialist. Deryl returned to Howard, Needles, Tammen and Bergendorf, working as a highway design engineer. He then went to work for the Missouri Highway Department also working as a highway design engineer. He also worked for Hunt Midwest, developing the underground warehouses and offices below Worlds of Fun. The desire to farm caught up with him. Deryl and Darlene moved back to a farm east of Clinton. Deryl and Darlene had one son, Morgan Wayne Burch. Deryl had also formed a small engineering company with Ron Shy of Columbia. They worked in the Clinton, Sedalia and Columbia areas. One of the most enjoyable times of Deryl's life was becoming an auctioneer. As a birthday present, Deryl was sent to the Missouri Auction School of KCMO. He started auctioneering with one of the best auctioneers in the country, Rolland Motley of Appleton City. Deryl worked with Rolland Montley, Bud Showalter and Atchison Auction and held many of his own sales. After Deryl and Darlene divorced, he sold his part in his engineering company and took a job for the County of Marion, Kansas, as county engineer. He then moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, as the, as the director of Public Works. After a few years, Deryl moved to Platte County as a highway engineer, until he realized that he no longer enjoyed engineering. He got as far away from that lifestyle as he could and took a job driving an 18-wheeler over the road for Contract Freighters of Joplin. Many years of driving over the road left Deryl missing home, so he got off the road and took a job as a Union Carpenter Local 160 out of Kansas City. Deryl worked as a carpenter until he was injured and for health reasons forced to quit work. Deryl's health went downhill quickly with multiple problems. Deryl enjoyed life and as such had many hobbies and projects. He loved playing music on the piano, guitar and trombone. At one time, Deryl played in a band called country Etc. BURCH, Frances E. FINKS
b: Feb 15 1832, Madison Co, VA
d: Jun 7 1896, S of Lewis Station, Henry Co, MO
bur:
Calhoun Cemetery, Tebo Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton Eye, Jun 13 1896 - Mrs. Frances E. Burch, wife of D. L. Burch, died at her home one mile south of Lewis Station Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m. She had suffered from tumorous cancers on her arm for two years, which home physicians and city specialists failed to cure and the utmost devotion on the part of the best of husbands, a devoted sisters and two sons were as naught to the fiat of the Omnipotent. No woman in the county was more universally loved. She was born in Madison county, Virginia, Feb. 15, 1832. Her father, Mark Finks, deceased, came to New Franklin, Mo. in 1836 and from there to Henry county in 1837, homesteading west of Calhoun. Messrs. Will, Jim, Fisher and Mit Finks are brothers of Mrs. Burch and the surviving sisters are Mrs. John Legg, Mrs. Dode Adamson and Miss Jennie Finks. Frances E. Finks was married to D. L. Burch Dec. 18, 1856 and in 1858 went to housekeeping at the present homestead. Two sons, Thornton and George, were born to them and are influential Christian men in their community, an honor to good parents. On Thursday of last week, Mrs. Burch first spoke to her family about her approaching death, although for the last few months her sufferings have been almost without endurance. She bore them patiently and let her thoughts dwell on others rather than on herself. She expressed herself ready to go and her only regret was in leaving her loved ones, especially her husband, to whom she felt the parting would be most severe. She bade farewell to her family, telling them to meet her in Heaven and to tell all her friends and neighbors, saying: "Oh, what a happy meeting that will be!" Burial at Calhoun.

He was stricken with jaundice sixteen months ago and he felt, after so many months of trials and sufferings, he would yet wear it out and be strong once more. Surely, if happiness can ever come from the honors of triumph of this worth, W. H. Burnsides may well have been a happy man, surrounded by the wife of his youth, whose whole life lay in his; the little boy not yet emerged from childhood's days of frolic; the fair young daughter; the sturdy son, just springing into closest companionship, claiming every day and every day rewarding a father's love. What brilliant broken plans, what baffled high ambition, what sundering of strong warm manhood's friendship, what bitter rending of sweet household ties. Great in life, he was surpassingly great in death. Altho he made no public profession, he said he was not afraid to die. Elder Weir conducted the funeral at Bethlehem church and he was laid to rest in Bethlehem cemetery, followed by the largest concourse of friends and relatives ever witnessed on such an occasion. Besides his own family, he leaves two brothers and sister.

BURRIS, Homer Thrall

d: Jul 11 1904, E of Clinton, Henry Co, MO
bur:
Englewood Cemetery BR-BY, Clinton, Henry Co, MO
Clinton Missouri, Jul 16 1904 - Homer T. Burris died at his farm 3 1/2 miles east of Clinton Monday at 7:25 a.m. from a tumor in his stomach. He died sitting in his large chair, as the nature of the disease made it impossible for him to lie down. The last two weeks he had been unable to take nourishment or talk above a whisper and required constant watching the past four weeks, but brave, kind and cheerful while bearing the most intense suffering, he passed from life into death, attended by the trest helpmate of a wife w were ever fortunate enough to know and surrounded by his children, who from their parents have inculcated such noble traits of character and moral worth that in their great loss they are sustained by the assurance of going to their father when the time comes to take the journey; and how sweet the meeting will be, relieved from all sorrow and pain. Mr. Burris had been in poor health for 20 years but only knew what the disease was about 18 months ago, after which his earthly affairs were set in order. The following facts were written by himself several months ago, in a pocket diary, which contained similar notes of his father and mother: Homer Thrall Burris was born on a farm near Utica, Ohio, May 331, 1846; lived on the farm with his parents until May 1, 1861, when he enlisted in the Ohio National Guards and served in the 135 Ohio regiment until discharged in October 1864. Moved with his parents to Delaware, Ohio, April 1865, at which place he attended the Ohio Western University until April, 1867, when he moved with his parents on a farm 3 1/2 miles east of Clinton, where he conducted farm and dairy work. Was married to Annabell Roberts near Utica, Ohio, Sept. 26, 1867. Six children have been born to them; one son died in infancy. Those now living are Mrs. May Henry, Mrs. Cora Massey, John D. Burris, who all reside on farms near home. Walter is an invalid and has been unable to leave his bed since having the measles last winter. Miss Gracie Burris, the youngest, is at home. Probably no man in his immediate locality and home town, Clinton, will be more missed; fitted by nature and education to take the lead, every worthy public meeting looked to him for help in making the enterprise practical and a success. Kind, observant and sympathetic, he was a gentleman in the truest sense. While not a church member, he lived a pure, noble, unselfish life. He was a broad-minded man; a man of many qualities. He loved his neighborhood, took a great interest in the schools and his hospitality was known for miles as he was always glad to welcome friends into his beautiful home. His wife and family are members of the Clinton M.E. church and to this church he was a liberal giver. He remarked to a friend and neighbor a few weeks before his death that his religion had always been "to do unto others as he would that they should do unto him." Had we more men who lived up to this rule as Mr. Burris did, this world would be better thereby. The funeral was at the home east of town and burial was in Englewood.

Clinton MO - Mrs. E. F. Burton died about 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 1939, at 707 North Third Street where the past year she and her brother-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Burton, had made their home. She had been ill about two weeks, most of the time bedfast from a cold, a kidney ailment and complications. Her devoted children, nieces and nephews helped one another in giving her every care, but the Master whom she had followed so long, had beckoned and she followed to that higher plane. Adah Summers was born October 28, 1861, in Indiana and came in a covered wagon with her parents when seven years old to Henry County where they first lived on what is now known as the Jageman farm, south of Victor School. All her life she lived in and near that community except for a few years in Cedar County, from where E. F. Burton claimed her as a bride of 27 years old, and they returned to Henry County to live. To them were born five children, three daughters and a son of whom survive: Mrs. Ira Lane and Mrs. Charles Quirey of the home community; Mrs. Charlie Palmer, near Deepwater and Carl M. Burton of Wallace, Nebr.; also two stepchildren, Francis D. Burton, northwest of Clinton and Mrs. R. B. Bowden of Kansas City, Kans. There are 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Burton was a charter member of the old Salem Baptist Church joining when young, and active as long as she was able. The church duties were different from those today - the minister must necessarily stay at night; the delegates to the annual associational meeting entertained when they convened at Salem, and in this, she was foremost. In later years she moved her membership to the Corinth Church. She was gentle and good, devoted to her husband and children, rearing as her own, the two stepchildren and was the only mother seven Burton nieces and nephews knew, as their mother died when they were small. Her hospitality was generously extended to all who entered the home, and excellent food and other administrations, gladly given. She enjoyed living in the homes of the children after the death of her husband but, as a true home lover, found unbounded pleasure in her own apartment at her Clinton home. Funeral services were held at the Wilkinson Funeral Chapel, Wednesday. Burial at the family lot at Salem cemetery.
