Clinton MO - Murray Conrad died about 7:30 p.m. March 2, 1939, at the St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City where he had been taken the Friday before from the Clinton Community Clinic Hospital. Mr. Conrad became ill February 18 while in Clinton and was treated by a physician. That evening, as he was going with a neighbor, Claude Dean, to his home southeast of Clinton, he suffered another attack and was taken back to the hospital by Mr. Dean, where his ailment was thought to be encephalitis and everything possible was done but he remained unconscious most of the time. After he was taken to St. Luke's, he was believed to be better and his sudden death came as a shock. His twin brother, Kirby, accompanied him to the hospital and remained until the end. A post mortem examination revealed a burst blood vessel on the brain which had sealed over, probably preventing instant death. He was born October 15, 1912, in Kansas City, Kans., and moved with his parents two years later to near Chalk Level and Lowry City where he lived until 1931, then came to Henry County where he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Frank Hall, about two years, then started farming for himself. He is survived by his twin and sister above mentioned who lived near him; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Kinser, of Torrance, Calif.; brother Howard Conrad, of Troutdale, Ore.; his father, Kirby Conrad, Sr., near Lowry City, and his step-mother. Mr. Conrad was held in high esteem in his community for he was a progressive and industrious young farmer; a thrifty husbandman of his land and stock. He was a good neighbor, ever ready to help no matter what the task. He repaid with deep and lasting affection, the care his oldest sister, Mrs. Hall gave him after the death of their mother when he was seven. Private funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Wilkinson Funeral Chapel. Burial at Concord Cemetery, near Lowry City.

Englewood Cemetery CO-CU, Clinton, Clinton Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton MO - Angeline Tracewell was born near Mascoutah, St. Clair county, Ill., February 19, 1852, and departed this life October 6, 1930. She was married to Joseph Cook on December 29, 1871, at Mascoutah, Ill. After eight years they moved to the farm four miles northeast of Clinton, where they lived for 40 years. Here her three children were born. Mrs. Agnes Galle, of Monroe, Wis.; Andrew J. Cook, of Kimbal, Kan.; Mrs. Lulu Cheatham, of Clinton. She was of a family of ten children, and so helped her parents in many ways children of today know nothing about. She helped her mother shear the sheep and spin and weave the wool into cloth. When she was 112 years of age, her father, who was a good knitter, taught her to knit, and many pairs of stockings and socks were made by her nimble fingers. She enjoyed tatting and made many beautiful pieces. She took much interest in sewing and did all her family's sewing until her girls grew up. She was a great flower lover, but the last few years her health would not permit her caring for them. The many bouquets brought her during her illness by thoughtful members of the Bible class and neighbors, gave her much pleasure. She was a great reader, never losing any time when not busy at her household duties, and even then when rushed, as farmers wives so often are, read while churning, with the old fashioned dasher churn. She enjoyed selecting the reading for herself and daughter to give at her clubs, and they always brought pleasure and profit to the members. She loved music and always insisted that her granddaughter practice much, and continue her studies, so as to become a talented musician. She was also much pleased when she knew that her grandson in Wisconsin was interested in music, and was taking lessons on slide trombone. She was devoted to her children, never tiring of doing things for their comfort and pleasure. She was kind, pleasant and true to her friends, and a real helpmate to her husband. When going to church or elsewhere, she wanted to be on time, helping everyone to get ready so that they might be prompt. She was a member of the Baptist church at one time, later placing her membership in the Presbyterian church of Clinton, remaining a member there many years. She had a strong constitution and was never sick a great deal until late years. Her health failing from over work, during the time that her husband was an invalid. He was stricken with paralysis while they were on the farm. She gave him patient unfailing care for 9 years. Last fall her granddaughter was ready for high school. She and Hazel planned to go to town, doing light housekeeping and be company for each other. They had been chums since Hazel's babyhood. a modern room was rented and furnished for them. Mrs. Cook looked forward with pleasure to the winter thinking it would be a change and rest from the work of the farm. But it was only a few short weeks until she suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. This, together with heart trouble and complications caused her to be a great sufferer for the past year, often having to obtain what rest she could sitting up, on account of her heart. She was lovingly cared for day and night by her daughter, Mrs. Cheatham, with whom she had made her home for the past 11 years, excepting 6 weeks, when her oldest daughter came and helped care for her in November and December of last year. Mrs. Cook leaves two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Galle, of Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ben Cheatham, east of Clinton; her son-in-law, Ben Cheatham, who was like a son to her; one son Andrew J. Cook; 4 grandchildren: Leone and Earl Galle, Paul Andrew Cook and Hazel Cheatham; two nephews, Jesse and Edd Tracewell, of Wellington, Kans., also a host of friends who are made sad. The funeral was held at the home of her daughter, October 8. Interment in Englewood.

Clinton Eye, Mar 19 1942 - John Cooper died at his home 522 North Second Street at 8:20 a.m. Saturday from a stroke he had suffered since last June. He had been but a week in bed, a man of much strength and vigor, during his long, full life. John Cooper was born near Zanesville, Ohio, November 29, 1859, and came when a boy of eight to Henry County with his parents. As a young man Mr. Cooper spent a year in Jasper County, and then located in Brownington where he became a blacksmith which business he followed until he retired a few years ago. January 21, 1886, Mr. Cooper and Miss Jennie Edwards of Henry County were united in marriage and were long respected and substantial citizens of the Brownington community, where their family was reared and where he filled his niche, honestly and dependably. When he could take time from his work, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, getting relaxation and new heart from his jaunts into woods or along streams. Last July, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper came to Clinton to make their home, next door to his son, R. S. Cooper and family, and there it was the Reaper claimed him. Church (South), died at his residence 4 miles west of town. The deceased was born in Kentucky May 22d, 1813. Early in life he graduated in medicine. Believing that he was called of God to enter the ministry he leaves the medical profession and enters upon the duties of an ambassador of Christ, determined to give his life to the work. In 1851 he moved to Illinois, from there he came to Missouri in '54. Two years ago he retired from active service, after having filled some prominent places in his church. A son is now presiding elder in the church of his father's choice. Rev. Cooper was an educated man, being familiar with several languages. He was a lover of books; his library valued at $700 he presented to his son in the ministry. As a preacher he was strong in power and thought. The funeral took place Monday morning. Passing Of Brownington Pioneer - William Harrison Cooper, was born near Byesville, Ohio, August 22, 1845. He came to Illinois with his parents before the Civil war, settling in Clark county where he enlisted in the 152nd Illinois regiment in January 1865, serving until the end of the war. He came to Missouri in 1868 and settled near Brownington and never married. He united with the Baptist church in 1869 at the old Ganoe schoolhouse near the present town cemetery, which at the time was used for both school and church services. As illustrative of the pioneer times of this section of the country, Uncle Will used to seem to enjoy telling the following story: He and his friend, Uncle Henry Stewart, who has since passed on before, wished to go to church at the above named schoolhouse, They had no shoes but they didn't allow that to stop them. Shortly after they were seated someone passed noiselessly by them up the aisle and lo, it was the minister, barefooted. Uncle Henry nudged Uncle Will and whispered, "We are not the only ones, Will; we are not the only ones!" For a number of years he had been living at the home of his niece, Mrs. L. M. Church, and at the home of his brother, John, at Brownington, where he passed quietly away the morning of July 23rd, at almost 86 years of age.
