Ross was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was a deacon since 1955. Ross was in attendance at the Cozart Hotel when New Hope Baptist Church was organized before he was saved and joined. He started attending church services with Jeanne before they married. It was during the first revival held at New Hope in October of 1952 that the Lord made him to know that he was lost and needed salvation. As he tells it: "I tried to be saved behind the sacks of feed where I would hide to pray when I was working in Harry’s feed store, but the Lord had other plans. One night at Revival meeting I was sitting in the choir close to where my beloved Jeanne was playing the piano and the Lord let me know I had to go down in the altar. I never knew how I got to the altar, I only knew the Lord said I had to get my head down on the floor, not just on the rostrum and when I did, He opened up the floor to me and revealed the fiery pits of hell and I knew that’s where I was headed if He didn’t save me. When I got my head low enough, he closed the floor and it was as though chains were loosed from my chest and peace came into my heart. He saved me."

Clinton MO - Herman P. Faris, 77, well-known banker and prohibitionist of Clinton, was killed instantly Friday afternoon when the automobile in which he was driving, alone, crashed into the railing of a concrete bridge seven miles south of Clinton on Highway 13. Mr. Faris was returning home from a business appointment in Deepwater at the time of the accident. He was known as a fast driver and had been in numerous accidents. He is survived by his widow, three daughters, a brother and sister and six grandchildren. Mr. Faris had played a large part in the life of Clinton and surrounding communities for many years. Hard work and good business judgment paved the way to the accomplishment of his goal, the establishment of one of the largest financial institutions in this part of the state, the Brinkerhoff-Faris Trust and Savings Company. An ardent prohibitionist, he had spoken in behalf of the dry cause in virtually every state in the union. Three times he was candidate of the Prohibitionists for governor of Missouri and in 1924 he carried the banner of the Prohibition party as its presidential nominee. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

FARIS, William Edgar
b: 1849
d: 1928

Clinton MO - Died in Colorado - Wm. Edgar Faris was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, May 8th, 1849; and died at Durango, Colo., March 2nd, 1928, being in his 79th year. His family removed, in 1859, to the territory of Kansas and lived in Lecompton, when it was the Capitol. In the fall of 1867 again removed to Clinton, and our older citizens will remember Edgar as one of the first draymen, when the railroad entered Clinton. However, he left Clinton in the early seventies for the then "wild west" of Barbour county, Kans., where he and his elder brother, L. C. Faris, and the Moseley Brothers, John and Enos, established a ranch in the Medicine river, where they resided a number of years; the Indians were numerous and troublesome in those days. After the death of Enos Moseley and the marriage of L. C. Faris, "Uncle Ed" and "Uncle John", as they were familiarly known, remained as partners and pals and finally located near LaPlata in the northwest corner of New Mexico, some 40 miles south of Durango, where Albert Faris had located and later died. These two confirmed bachelors remained inseparable from their first meeting in about 1873, until Uncle Ed passed away on March 2nd, 1928. He had been in failing health for some time and Earle Faris, who is a banker at Mancos, Colo., drove down to LaPlata on March 1st, and took his Uncle to Durango to consult a doctor. Mr. Faris seemed better, ate a good breakfast, stood the forty mile ride in good shape but had been in the Doctor's office only a few minutes when the poor worn heart simply ceased its beats, and the soul of Edgar Faris passed into the presence of his Maker. None knew Edgar Faris, but learned to esteem him for his outstanding, rugged, honesty and uprightness. He is survived by his sister, Fannie, of Denver (formerly a teacher in Clinton, and also in Denver City schools) his brothers, Theodore S., of Colorado Springs, and the youngest, Herman P., of Clinton. The funeral was at Durango, Colo.

Penney Company during the years she lived in Dodge City. she moved from there to Wichita in 1950, where she worked as a department manager at the Sears store. After John's death Clara developed a habit of moving quite frequently. In fact, it became something of a family joke that she could not find a place where she wanted to live. Clara, however, always considered Clinton her home. Clara was a caring and loving person. She was always there if a family member or a friend needed her. She was also a very proud woman who at times had a strong will. About 10 years ago she started having vision problems and ignoring the advice of her family, she insisted that she own an automobile and drive. She made several trips to Minnesota. About two or three years ago she traveled alone from Clinton to Rotan to visit her family there and visit the gravesites of her parents. Clara was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in January 1994. Her daughter Dorothy and son-in-law Stan came to Clinton and moved her to Minnesota to live with them. Clara spent from February to September 1994 with Dorothy and Stan. During the time her health worsened and she needed special care. Clara stayed at Southview Acres Health Care Center in West St. Paul, Minnesota, from October 1994, until her death on March 10, 1995. Dorothy was at her bedside when she died. Clara was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota where Rev. Kathleen Zielinski is pastor. Clara's life was not always easy, but she was a real trooper. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by two daughters, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers who trust that Clara's journey from life to life is guided by the strong and loving hand of Almighty God. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 15, at Consalus Chapel, Clinton. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery.

She was one of Henry county's pioneer women, working side by side with her husband, helping to build up their farm, setting out fruit trees and flowers, seeing the wide, unbroken prairies gradually becoming thickly dotted with homes, schools and churches; saw one generation pass and another generation arrive with all its modern conveniences. John Fellhauer, her husband preceded her in death July 25, 1890, almost 41 years ago. Older residents of Mr. Carmel still recall his funeral procession, the longest ever witnessed in Henry county, a procession over a mile in length, all horse drawn wagons and carriages, winding their slow way down to Bear Creek cemetery. Left alone with eight children, the youngest, Jessie, being born two months after her father's passing - Mrs. Fellhauer assumed the double responsibility of rearing her family, and lived long, seeing them all grow into good Christian men and women. Fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, also survive her. She was devoted to home and her children. These children in return worshiped their mother, in health she gave her time and energy to home making. Her health began to fail several years ago, and she became a semi-invalid. Her children were devoted to her.

Clinton MO - The spirit of Mrs. D. V. Fellhauer went to the Eternal City at 5 a.m. Monday morning at the dawning of a new day. She had been in failing health for a number of years and very ill much of the time the past year. It was decided that she must be operated upon for gall stones and her physician had been building up her strength in order to take her to Kansas City for an operation. Last week she became suddenly ill and was taken to the Stebbins hospital for an emergency operation. Her condition was much worse than anyone had thought, and it was seen at once that she only had a small chance for recovery. She regained consciousness after the operation and lived until Monday morning. She died happy and free from pain. She was ready to go. None have ever seen a sweeter death than hers, for it was not death, but was but the start on the last journey to her perpetual home. Leota Elledge was born in Edgar county, Illinois, near Paris, August 6, 1859. She came with her parents to Bates county, Missouri, in 1867, where they lived for several years, then moved to Henry county near LaDue. She married D. V. Fellhauer, January 1, 1879. Eight children were given to this union. Seven survive to comfort their beloved father. They are: Mrs. Edgar Graham and Roy V. Fellhauer, Kansas City; Leo, Max, Jay and Elmer Fellhauer, and Mrs. Roy Todd, Clinton. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Emma Angle, Clinton; Mrs. J. H. Vansant, LaDue; Mrs. J. W. Hunter, Urich; Mrs. John Mayes and D. M. Elledge, Mountain Grove, Mo.; Mrs. John Kedigh, Mountain Home, Arkansas; Nick Elledge, San Bernardino, California. By their fruits ye shall know them, will describe this good woman. Her life speaks for itself through her children. Everyone a citizen worthy of the name and doing their part to help the world along. Each son and daughter is ambitious for the best things life has to offer, not alone in worldly goods but each one building for eternity. She with her good husband have raised children, of which any community can be proud. they are industrious and efficient in any line of business they undertake. Mrs. Fellhauer was the best of neighbors. She loved her home and the home making. Hospitality and kindness reigned supreme. her garden, flowers and poultry were always up in trim as was every detail of work that was hers. She had made ready for her trip to Kansas City, but in so doing she got everything in order, so if she did not return it would be as she wished. When a young girl she was converted and united with the Christian church of LaDue. She had ever been a faithful follower of her Lord and her life was one of witnessing for Him. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Lindsey. Interment in Bear Creek cemetery near LaDue.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Nov 13 2003 - Edna May Fenwick was born in a log house April 2, 1903, to Robert "Sam" and Olive (Boots) Ledbetter, in St. Clair County in the Ohio community west of Lowry City. She was the second among five girls and a boy who died in infancy. Edna acquired her elementary education at Lewellen School, and graduated from the Appleton City High School in May 1922. After services at Harmony Baptist Church one Sunday, a friend introduced Edna to a young man named Murray Fenwick and that meeting blossomed into a two-year courtship and marriage on June 28, 1922, at the Methodist Church parsonage in Clinton. In 1925 Edna accepted an opportunity to teach at McNutt School, located south of Lowry City and began what was to become her lifelong profession in elementary education. When their first son, Eugene, was born on April 28, 1926, she discontinued teaching to become a full-time mother. On November 12, 1929, the second son, Robert, joined the family and all four later confessed faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Ohio Christian Church. After Eugene had moved on to college and Robert was in high school, Edna returned to the classroom and a labor of love that would lead her to gain a Bachelor's Degree and then a Master's Degree in elementary education from Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg. Over the years Edna taught in several schools, including White Hall, Potts, Pleasant Grove, Compton, Rich Hill, Foster and finally in the Hickman Mills district of Kansas City. After retirement in 1968, Edna enjoyed substitute teaching in Montrose, Rockville and Appleton City. She was active in the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's honor society and served two years as chapter president in Kansas City. She was also a member of the Missouri Retired Teacher's Association. Edna enjoyed needlework and produced beautiful crocheted and embroidered things and lovely quilts. In later years she enjoyed working with area senior centers making toys and gifts for children. She was an avid reader with a keen interest in events of national and local importance. Many can testify also to her compassion for others as evidenced by her faithfulness in sending cards and letters of hope and love to multitudes on any occasion. With a college major in elementary education and a sincere desire for excellence, she continued to encourage her students, "Strive to be honorable citizens, seek the highest ideals, never compromise yourself or your beliefs. Believe in God as your Savior and lead a Christian life, always." Following Murray's death on February 20, 1978, Edna moved to Osceola in 1980 to enjoy more time with her sisters, but after some signs of health problems, she moved to Appleton City in 1992 to be closer to her sons and their families.
