Clinton Missouri, Jan 3 1903 - Mrs. E. L. Foote breathed her last Thursday, January 1, 9 a.m. at her home on North Main street. Her departure is a personal affliction, so kind and dear as a neighbor and friend. In her rare character was blended unbounded kindliness and generosity, with a firmness that never swerved from the paths of duty; fresh and bright when suffering bodily ailment that would have crushed the spirit of a weaker nature. Born May 18, 1832 in Alexander, New York. Her maiden name was Hannah Noise Hunn and she joined the Baptist church at the age of 15. She became the cherished and beloved wife of E. L. Foote. They came to Clinton in 1867, where she and her husband have worked as one in every good word and work. Her example of submissive patience to the Master's will in the varied afflictions of life is a picture of calm sweetness, while the sufferings of the past few months so quietly borne now shine in the death scene as the radiant evening star has shone during her nights of waiting for the one clear call. That call from earthly work to a higher service around the redeemed saints. The only surviving sister, Miss Julia Hunn, was telegraphed for at her home in Batavia, New York. Several half-brothers reside in New York.

Clinton MO - William Avery Foote was born December 12th, 1839, Clinton, Oneida County, New York, and died August 30th, 1923. His parents were John and Mary (Lull) Foote, both natives of the state of New York. The Foote family is of English lineage and the ancestors of William A. Foote were early settlers in New England. Nathaniel Foote, of England, immigrated to New England in 1636 and was one of the first settlers of Weathersfield, Connecticut. Mary Lull, the mother of William Avery Foote, is a descendant of one of the earliest families to settle in New York. John and Mary (Lull) Foote went to Wisconsin and spent the last years of their lives in Dane county, that state, where they both died. They were the parents of nine children, William A. being the youngest and three of their sons served in the Union army during the civil war. William Avery Foote was ten years of age when his parents removed from Oneida to Wyoming County, New York, where the father conducted a tannery and woolen mills. In 1858 William went to Springfield, Illinois. Here he attended school for a time and for four years was employed in a hardware store. He then went to Indianapolis, Indiana, to work in a hardware store for the same employer, where he remained about four years. In 1869 he came to Clinton, Henry County, Missouri, where he and his brother Ebenezer Lull Foote, engaged in the hardware business under the firm name of Foote Brothers. They also conducted a grain and elevator business in partnership, E. L. Foote having charge of that department and William A. Foote conducted the hardware business. In early days flax was extensively grown in this section and Foote Brothers made a practice of loaning large quantities of flax seed to the farmers for seeding purposes in this and surrounding counties, going as far south as Bolivar, Mo. When the Foote Brothers started in business in Clinton there was no railroad in Henry County and their goods were hauled mostly from Warrensburg. They continued business in Clinton for forty years, disposing of their mercantile business in 1909, and since that time Mr. Foote has been practically retired from active life. Mr. Foote was united in marriage September 14, 1869 with Miss Emma D. Wood, a native of Springfield, Massachusetts. To Mr. and Mrs. Foote were born two children - Mrs. Mary F. Kerr and Mrs. Robert E. Harman. Mrs. Foote departed this life January 12th, 1917. Mr. and Mrs. Foote were Baptists. d: Nov 1899
bur:
Calhoun Cemetery, Tebo Twp, Henry Co, MO
Calhoun MO, Nov 25 1899 - Loyd Morris Ford was born near Lewis Station Feb. 2, 1876. His early life was spent on the farm, laboring in the field and tending to the stock and, when but a small boy, ready to answer any questions you might have about the farm or his father's business. As his father was away from home a great deal of the time, working in the mines, it left quite a responsibility on his shoulders. He took a great interest in his books and graduated at the head of the class at the Lewis school. He confessed Christ as his Saviour when he was only 11 and, through the influence of his Christian mother, he occupied the position in which he was engaged, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. By his industry and economy, he obtained the necessary funds to enter the Kentucky University September, 1895 and the four years succeeding were filled with happy, dutiful work. His congregation was large and he was highly complimented on his preaching. While he was here in Calhoun last July, he said that he expected to enter the University again in September and after two more years would graduate in the classical course in the college of the bible, and with the AB degree from the college of liberal arts. But before many months rolled by, disease laid hold of him and within the short period of one month, the summons came for him to come up higher.

Monday, April 5, 1943, bringing death immediately to the fine young soldier. A telegram to his sister, Miss Lucille Forsythe, later that day made no further statements, so details of the accident are not yet known. His plane was a one mane pursuit ship, so it is presumed he alone was in the accident. After graduation he served as the assistant manager at the Mattingly Bros. Store until January 5, 1942; when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He began his training at Sheppard Field, Texas and Ft. Wayne, Ind., then after several months in California was sent to Yuma, Ariz., where he was graduated with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He had expected a furlough before being sent for the last of his training at Hamilton Field and was enjoying thoroughly his flying. He was happily planning a visit home, when his present six weeks work was completed. He was an excellent aviator, quick, fearless and dependable and his life, snuffed so untimely in the adverse wind, was given as the true soldier would have wished it, doing his job, and with no regrets. He is survived by his father and sister, Miss Lucille Forsythe, and his grandmother, Mrs. W. B. Parks, with whom he made his home most of the tie since the death of his mother; also his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Calvin, with whom they made their home the first winter after Mrs. Forsythe's passing. Clinton MO - Isaac Foster died at his home east of Deepwater at 10:05 a.m. February 23, 1937. He had been ailing several weeks, and took pneumonia after Christmas, from which he never recovered. Every care given by his wife and children was to no avail. Isaac William Foster was born September 30, 1874, in Indiana, and came, when about two, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Foster, to Henry county, where he spent the remainder of his life. His home for the past 24 years had been two and a half miles east of Deepwater. He was married to Miss Alice Hatfield, March 21, 1896, and to this union seven children were born, all of whom survive. He and his wife would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary next month. Mr. Foster was a good neighbor, willing to help when he could, ready to perform any work. He earnestly sought to do as Christ would have him do, for to him the bible held the answer to all vexing problems and perplexities of life. It was his comfort during the weeks of illness, and his Heavenly Father, in whom Mr. Foster believed, will comfort the wife and children who so loved their husband and father. Mr. Foster's parting from his brother and father, who died about a year ago, proved but temporary. Deceased was a farmer particularly fitted for his work as he loved animals, his patience and kindness to them rewarded many times over, for dumb animals give a blind devotion and unquestioning obedience to him who understands them. Mr. Foster had a kindness for feline animals, an unusual trait in men. He was devoted to his family, coping with life's difficulties for their sake, giving his loved ones the necessities and comforts he could. There was no task too menial for him to perform, no person too lowly to help if it were in his power. He is survived by his wife, a son, John Foster, of the home; Mesdames Howard Martin, Harley Parks, Justin Vickers of Clinton; Mesdames Clyde Dodson and Geo. Bedford, near Deepwater; and Mrs. Edward Hoffman, Topeka, Kans., also a brother, Ben Foster of Covina, Calif. There are 24 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the Baptist church, Deepwater, on Thursday. Interment in Maplewood cemetery, near Brownington.

FOWLSTON, Lillian
b: 1870
d: 1895

Garden City, KS - Once again the hand of death descended into our city, and touched with his unsparing fingers, a young life full of promise for future achievements. Miss Lillian Fowlston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Fowlston died at Colorado Springs September 2nd, 1895, after an illness of five months. On the 28th day of March she attended a social, and there took cold from which she never recovered. The trouble rapidly developed into quick consumption. Accompanied by her mother she went from here to Colorado Springs, on July 20th, the doctors thinking that the change would be beneficial. The change did no good, and her father arrived there just in time to say goodbye to his daughter. Lillian Fowlston was born in Henry county, Missouri on Sept. 18, 1870. She moved to Garden City Sept. ?, and has lived here ever since. She became a member of the Christian church about four years ago, while attending school at Great Bend. She always taught a class in the Sunday school until prevented by sickness. Ever since she was 18 years old she has taught school not missing a single term. Her spare time was put in study and attending school. Before her last sickness she had never been ill enough to necessitate the calling of a doctor. She taught in the city schools three years, and her sickness obliged her to leave a term uncompleted. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family in their desolation. The funeral was held at the Christian church on Tuesday. The building had been appropriately draped in white and many beautiful flowers placed around by friends of the departed one. All of the available space in the church was occupied by ladies with a few exceptions, and a large number of those unable to get seats stood up in the porch and around at the windows. At two o'clock the casket was borne into the church, and the choir sang softly as the procession moved up the aisle. Several beautiful pieces of music were sung, and prayer offered before Elder Bowen commenced his sermon which was a well spoken impressive discourse, listened to throughout with close attention by the audience.
