Clinton MO - Priscilla Covey, daughter of Joshua and Lydia Covey, was born in Tennessee December 6, 1825, and with her parents moved to Missouri in a wagon drawn by horses, in the year 1831, at the age of six years, long before there were any railroads in the state, thus starting with the state when it was new - ten years of age. She spent all of 91 years of her life in Missouri, except two years in Texas. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church when a girl of 18. She was united in marriage to Wm. Hunt in 1848. There were born to them eleven children - six boys and five girls - four of whom are still living: John Hunt, Davenport, Washington; William Robert Hunt, Ashland, Idaho; E. D. Hunt, Montrose, Mo.; Elizabeth Catherine Raybourn, Tetonia, Idaho, and one step-son, W. H. Hunt, of Montrose, Mo. She also leaves 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Levi Covey, of Kansas City, Mo., who is now 86 years of age, who has watched the growth of Kansas City from its rise from almost nothing to its present greatness. She was left a widow April 2, 1874. The care of the family fell upon her, and subject to hardship and privations of the early pioneers, she managed to bring them up, a family to be proud of, for she endured as seeing Him who was invisible. Perhaps her fondest hopes were more than realized for out of that home came two of the greatest Methodist preachers the St. Louis conference has ever produced - Enoch Johnson Hunt, by his great sermons and fine judgment soar to a very high standing in the councils of the church, and by his gentlemanly manners and sweet singing he finds himself a favorite of many, both old and young. George Jacob Hunt was a man of God Indeed, and possessed one of the greatest minds found in Missouri Methodism. Robert Arthur Hunt, son of E. J. Hunt, is a bright and rising young preacher, now pastor of the first Methodist Episcopal Church, of Dallas, Texas. Grandma Hunt fell asleep in Jesus February 27, 1923, being 97 years, 2 months and 21 days old. Funeral services were held in the White Oak M. E. church, March 2nd, at 2 p.m., after which the body was tenderly laid in the White Oak grave yard to sleep until the call of the resurrection, and the spirit went home to be with Jesus. - G. F. Clinton MO - Dr. Earl Neal Hutcherson, 57, widely known veterinarian and stockman of Clinton, died at the Clinton General Hospital Saturday morning about 11:30 from injuries received in a highway accident two hours earlier. Dr. Hutcherson was born March 17, 1890, and was one of the best known and best liked men in this section of the state. He was a son of the late Edward L. and Laura L. Whitlow Hutcherson of Deer Creek Township. He was married to Miss Eva Sargent' of Sedalia, on April 15, 1919. The widow and one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Ann, survive. There are also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Bennett, Clinton; Mrs. Eugene Jones, Calhoun; Robert Hutcherson, Clinton; Luther Hutcherson of near Clinton; Glen Hutcherson of near Clinton; Dr. Clyde Hutcherson, Leeton; Howard Hutcherson of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and Frank Hutcherson of Kansas City. Dr. Hutcherson was a man of fine character with qualities that made him respected and admired. His early life on the farm had taught him a code of simple honesty and directness in his dealings and he lived according to those high precepts. He was a quiet man, but a man whose word was heard with conviction. He was a true friend and his circle of friends extended far out over a wide area. His honorable code was extended to his professional work and his business was almost more than he could handle, but he never complained, although he was out on calls day and night. He was a veteran of World War I and was a very active member of the American Legion, holding different offices of the Clinton Post including that of commander. His advice and council were highly valued and he was selected for chairmanship of numerous important committees of that group of ex-service men. As a citizen, Dr. Hutcherson was at his best. He was a man who did not act on hasty impulse, but would reduce a problem to a simple formula, and would express his opinion in frankness, fairness, and sincerity. The entire community joins in the grief of the wife, the daughter and the brothers and the sisters. A tribute was paid to the memory by one man talking to a group of friends. He said, "Far better for Clinton and Henry county that it had been all of us who were killed; we would not have been missed nearly so much as Dr. Hutcherson." Funeral services for the late Dr. Earl N. Hutcherson were at the First Methodist Church Monday afternoon. Despite the cold, the snow and slippery roads and highways, the church was filled, with many people standing in the back of the church. Many friends of the deceased had driven long distances to attend. The entire front of the church was banked with floral tributes.

Clinton MO - Edward Lewis Hutcherson's sufferings ended at 4 p.m. Friday, August 15, at his home at 302 North Main street. Four years ago he had an infected tooth, which caused a sore place in his mouth, which became so serious that more than a year ago, he underwent an operation and had expert treatment in Kansas City. His sufferings were so intense that for 28 days after his return home he was unable to sleep. He did not recover properly and as they were living on his farm near Urich, his children decided that it would be better for them to move to Clinton. They moved here last December, to the home where he died. He suffered much since, and a month and two days previous to his death had an attack with his heart, had been bedfast since, until death came to relieve his sufferings, as they were beyond human endurance. His wife and children ministered in every way possible to him; also his daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. Especially fine was Mrs. Frank Hutcherson of Kansas City, who is a trained nurse. Her skilled knowledge made those last days on earth possible for him to bear and she spared no effort, giving him devoted, loving care. All did what they could and he was taken to the best and most skilled physicians and surgeons, but his case baffled their knowledge. He was born February 11, 1862 near Petersburg, Ill. He came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hutcherson, and settled on a farm east of Clinton, when he was 7 years old. There he grew to young manhood and was united in marriage March 17, 1886 to Miss Laura Ellen Whitlow. Ten children were given to this union, nine are living to comfort their mother. They are as follows: Mrs. Eugene Jones, Calhoun; Mrs. Mary Bennett with her mother in Clinton; Howard Hutcherson, Ft. Lupton, Colo.; Glen E. Hutcherson, west of Clinton; Dr. Clyde N. Hutcherson, Windsor; Frank E. Hutcherson, Kansas City; Luther W. Hutcherson, Calhoun; Dr. Earl and Robert W. Hutcherson of Clinton. All of his children were at his bedside during the last illness and all at the funeral, except Howard, who had to return home 2 weeks before. Mr. and Mrs. Hutcherson lived on a farm near Coal until 1901, when they purchased the large farm in the Bronaugh neighborhood where they lived until 1924. It was there they raised their children. Mr. Hutcherson was known for many years as one of Henry county's largest cattle feeders and he would rather ride a horse and look after his farm than anything else. It was an attractive farm and the house made for comfortable living and for many years it was filled with happy joyous laughter of their children. Both he and his good wife were ever interested in the welfare of their children and all were well educated, most of them having graduated at the Clinton High School. In 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Hutcherson bought a farm near Urich where they lived for five years and where he still fed livestock, but not on such a large scale as when his boys were at home. Even last fall when he knew his illness would make death inevitable and he must move to town, he bought a bunch of calves and started feeding them. When he came to Clinton his great worry was that his hands would be idle for the first time in his life, and he constantly spoke of there seeming to be nothing left for him to do in this world. He was a good neighbor, thoughtful and considerate of his wife and family, his kindly heart ever going out to suffering and needy humanity. He was an ardent Democrat and a candidate for county treasurer in 1928 when he made many new friends over the county during his campaign. He believed in Christ and the Creator of the universe and read his Bible thoughtfully and prayerfully and was a Christian, although not a member of any church. It is hard for his wife and children to give him up, but not as hard as it was for them to see him go through the intolerable sufferings from which they were powerless to release him, and they feel that he is safe in Heaven. The funeral was conducted at the First M. E. Church, Sunday afternoon with graveside services at Englewood.
