She was fearfully burned, but she got into her buggy and drove to a nearby house and secured some clothing and went on home where, after terrible suffering, she died in a short time. Her remains were taken to Bethlehem for burial.

Montrose MO - Calvin Odle died at his home in Montrose, January 9. Calvin Odle, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Odle, was born in Ray County, Missouri, December 19, 1859. August 20, 1884, he was married to Mary C. Keeble at Teays Chapel. In 1901 they came to Montrose, where they have since resided. For 20 years he was associated with the J. D. Mann Grain Company and was a valuable assistant in the grain and elevator business. When this firm was dissolved by the death of Mr. Mann, he took the position of night watch at the Montrose Savings Bank and ably and efficiently performed his duties until two years ago, when he became ill. Sometime ago his condition became acute and Thursday his children were summoned to his bedside. Loving hearts and hands did all that could be done to relieve his suffering. Cal, as all knew him, was a familiar figure on the streets of Montrose and was loved by both old and young. He was especially fond of children and young people and every boy or girl in town called him by name and waved a greeting to him each time they saw him, be it many times a day. He was faithful and loyal to friends and true to the trust they reposed in him. Someone has said, "To have a friend, you must be a friend." Perhaps that is why Cal could count so many of his acquaintances as his friends. He was the father of five children. The older sons, Jess and Edd, died several years ago. Richard lives in Montrose; Mrs. Lela McKinney and Wade, Pittsburg, Kans. The widow, three children and four grandchildren are left to cherish his memory. All were present at the funeral to pay their last tribute of love and respect to the departed husband and father. The funeral was held at the home Monday, January 11. Burial in the Montrose cemetery.

Bear Creek Cemetery, Bear Creek Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton Eye, Clinton MO - Buried in Wedding Gown of 1897 - Mrs. Henrietta Odle, who died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, February 6, 1950, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Johnson, Montrose, was buried at Bear Creek Cemetery Thursday afternoon in her wedding gown of 53 years ago, fulfilling the wish of her late husband, who died in 1936. The wedding dress of Ivory cashmere had a full gored skirt with grosgrain ribbon bows on each gore. The tight bodice was embroidered in seed pearls and the leg o' mutton sleeves were fashioned to a point over the hand. The dress was preserved in tissue paper as pretty as the day it had been made - every stitch by hand in 1897. Mrs. Odle, mother of seven children, gained weight while younger but in her sunset years wore the same size dress as when a bride. On a number of occasions, when the family chanced to get the dress out to show a friend or for Mrs. Odle to model, Mr. Odle expressed the wish that Mrs. Odle wear it for her shroud and thus complete its earthly mission of service. Rev. Wilbur Gutridge brought comforting words to the large assemblage of kinspeople and friends at Bear Creek Church Thursday, Feb. 9, when this beloved mother was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery, by her grandsons: Willard, Harold and Ralph Johnson, Donald Mueller, Robert McMillian and Loyd Vernon Dickey. Vansant Funeral Home, Clinton, was in charge. Mrs. Odle lived among her six children, following the death of Mr. Odle, until last summer when she became bedfast from a pelvis fracture suffered in July at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Johnson and Mr. Johnson, Montrose. Helpless and unable to feed herself, but free from pain the past several months, Mrs. Odle slipped away in her sleep, closing the book on a useful life but never writing finis to the chapters embossed on the hearts of her children and friends. Mrs. Odle exemplified motherhood, loving to the point of sacrifice, and teaching life's greatest lessons by worthy example. Their home, not rich in worldly possessions, was bright with hospitality and the radiance of friendly sincerity which warms the soul. She was never too tired to do a friendly deed or to help in sickness and sorrow. She was a good cook and served her family with gladness, anticipating young appetites in the evening after school, with fresh lightbread on the oven door, sweet cream butter to "spread", hot sizzling doughnuts, stitch with sugar, and all knew where the great stone jar of hominy was kept and lad or lassie could "fill up" before helping with the chores or doing the odd jobs which teach youngsters responsibility in the home. The family studied the Sunday School lesson and they all piled in the wagon and attended prayer meeting or maybe a neighborhood party where old and young went -- and played together. Never was anyone turned away from the Odle home for Mr. Odle always knew there was plenty on the table and he could invite neighbor or stranger to "have a bite". Theirs was a happy home ruled with the priceless heritage of love. Mrs. Odle was born Feb. 28, 1872, at St. Louis, Mo. The family moved to Windsor when the deceased was quite young. There she grew to womanhood and was married. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Clinton, having moved her membership there the short time she resided in Clinton following Mr. Odle's death at Coal. Her married life was spent near coal, on a farm and there her seven children were born. One, Mrs. Loyd Dickey preceded her in death. The others are Mrs. Lewis Johnson, Montrose, Mrs. Carl McMillian, Deepwater; George Odle, Marne, Ia.; Mrs. Aaron Johnson, Appleton City; Mrs. Walter Johnson, Montrose; Mrs. Chester Mueller, Walnut, Ia. There are also 27 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and an only sister, Mrs. Jim Hartle, Eagle, Co.

At Rest - Again the Angel of Death has entered our community and claimed for his victim our friend and brother, Rudolph Oechsli. On Saturday October the 18th 1902, at 9:45 pm, the Master's call: It is enough, come home - came to him, and our brother passed away peacefully, and his soul bade farewell to this Earth, and on joyful wings took its flight to the beautiful land beyond, to be forever with Jesus. His suffering in the last few weeks was great and intense, but he put his trust in Jesus, and endured it patiently, never murmuring or complaining; at last his suffering is all over, the conflict is ended, the victory is won, and the angels carried him away to his immortal home. Rudolph Oechsli was born the 25th day of March 1836, in Canton Bern, Switzerland where he was educated and grew to manhood. In 1855 he bade farewell to the land of his childhood days and came to America, first settling in the state of Ohio, where he lived until 1859 when he came west and located at Warsaw, Benton County, MO. In 1861 he moved to Sedalia and in 1870 he came to Windsor and has lived in and near here ever since. Bro. Oechsli was converted in 1886, and united with the Evangelical Church at Zion and was always faithful and liberal in supporting the cause of Christ. We know whereof we speak as for 20 years the writer has associated with the departed and many times did we meet and worship together in the little Church and we know how he delighted to sing God's praise with us. Now he sings with the redeemed ones in the Father's home on high. He was married to Maddie Rode (errata: "Rolli") in 1859. Seven children were born to them, five sons and two daughters. The two daughters preceded him to the better land. He leaves his faithful companion to mourn over the loss of a kind and faithful husband. His sons, John and George of Montana, Harry of Washington, and Frank and Charley of Windsor mourn the loss of an affectionate father. Two brothers and two sisters are left to mourn the loss of their brother. May they all be reunited on the shores of eternal bliss. Monday morning, October the 20th, his many friends and neighbors met at his late residence in Windsor to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed one. A quartet sang several hymns and then we followed his remains to their last resting place in Laurel Oak Cemetery where he was tenderly laid away, where he will sleep till the glorious resurrection morning. Good-by and farewell Bro. Oechsli. Ruhe in Frieden.

He had been in failing health for the past two years and bedfast for several months. Thomas W. Ogg was born November 24, 1857, in Richmond, Madison county, Kentucky. As a young man he came with his parents to Howard county, Mo., where he received his education. His father died when he was young, and as a young man of 18 Judge Ogg took charge of the farm. He was a progressive farmer and supremely interested in the work. His farm was always kept up to a high state of cultivation and he specialized in high grade livestock. At his death he owned 120 acres of the original home farm in Bethlehem township, over which he kept careful supervision. Judge Ogg served his county faithfully and efficiently as associate judge eight years, then as presiding judge four years. In 1912 he was elected county treasurer and served four years. He was also on the Clinton township board and served as treasurer. His official career was one of which to be proud. Endowed with all the qualities of a natural leader, Judge Ogg made each term of office he held an outstanding success. During his term as county treasurer there was never a penny unaccounted for and his books always balanced. It was during his term as county judge that the old railroad bonds were paid off and Henry county staged one of the greatest celebrations ever held. Judge Ogg made four campaigns for county office and was never defeated. A close guardian of the public's money, Judge Ogg looked first to the welfare of the community and promoted the spirit of progress among the people of Henry county. He was a road enthusiast and many of the excellent hard-surfaced and graveled roads in this township are largely due to his thrift and industry as he utilized the natural resources in the construction of the roads. The paving around the square was also one of the notable accomplishments made during the term of Judge Ogg as county judge. Educated principally in the school of experience, nevertheless, he was a constant student and read extensively so that he was able to talk on a diversity of subjects. Progressive in his ideas and actions, Judge Ogg stirred the people of the county to action. As a result the county business was placed upon a more substantial plane and readjusted, setting a good example for following administrations. He was united in marriage with Miss Frances Josephine Massey, October 11, 1901. She survives with his sister, Mrs. Mattie Gaines, who has always lived at his home. He has a half-brother, Jabe Dooley, who lives eight miles north of Clinton, and a half-sister, Mrs. Fannie Stanley, who lives in Battle Creek, Michigan. Judge Ogg was converted in his youth and united with the Christian Church, belonging to Freedom many years. He was an elder in the Christian Church and held many of the official capacities. For a number of years he was president of the Henry County Sunday School Association. He was a member of the Elks and Masonic Lodges for many years. The funeral was conducted at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon. Burial was in Englewood.

Clinton Eye, Thursday, Aug 2 1951 - Clinton and Henry County friends were distressed by the news of the death of Joe Oliphant on July 25 at his home on Highway 35, near Clinton, where he had been ill for some time, becoming bedfast in March of this year. Lovingly cared for by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Geer, he faced his condition and suffering with a fine courage and never a word of complaint that might have burdened his family heavier. The visits of many friends and kinspeople, especially his grandchildren, were the highlights of his days and his warm handshake and smile were bestowed on friend or stranger alike, revealing the sincerity of his interest in people that had been characteristic of his life. Artie Joseph Oliphant, son of Samuel Joseph and Rebecca Jane Moody Oliphant, was born Nov. 4, 1881, at Warrensburg, Mo. One of a family of eight he was reared there and as a young man went into business in Kansas City. Prior to his coming to Clinton in 1939, he operated a restaurant in Garden City. He opened the Oliphant restaurant in Clinton, today Smitty's west side of the square, where for five years he was a familiar and popular figure. Pleasing his customers and making friends, he was really missed when he sold his business and retired to the quieter life of his farm where his yard and garden reflected his care. When his health began to fail he spent long hours in the out-of-doors and the wave and greeting of passersby were always acknowledged. Surviving this good man, fine husband and father are his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Geer of Clinton; and two grandchildren, Larry Arthur and Karen Ruth; also one sister, Mrs. Ab Fisher of Urich. Funeral services were conducted at the Vansant Funeral Home July 27 and the body was laid to rest in Urich Cemetery. Pall bearers were C. S. and Keith Hartzler, John Oliphant, A. O. Fisher, Glen Shaw and Sterling Goodard, his nephews.
