b: Aug 18 1862, Franklin Co, MO
d: Jun 7 1941, Henry Co, MO
bur:
Englewood Cemetery ST-TY, Clinton, Clinton Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton MO - Death took the soul of a longtime Henry County resident when it closed in everlasting sleep the eyes of Henry Tubbesing at his home one mile east of Quarles Saturday, June 7, at 9:15 p.m. His grieved loved ones find consolation only in his going that he has been released from a rheumatic illness which began several years ago and in the last months caused complications making him bedfast several weeks before death. Mr. Tubbesing was born August 18, 1862, in Franklin County, MO, where he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church with his parents, brothers and sisters. Henry County became his future home when he came at the age of about 23 to the Quarles neighborhood to work on the farm for his uncle, F. W. Brader. About five years later on March 10, 1891, he married Miss Isabelle Stutte, also a native of Franklin County, who had come to live with her only sister, Mrs. F. W. Schierenberg, who lived near Quarles at that time, but now lives in Oswego, KS. Their nuptial vows were taken in Clinton then they returned to the farm he had purchased near Quarles. A year later, Mr. Tubbesing built a new house for his wife, replacing the old, and this had since been their home. March 9, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Tubbesing quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary which was on the following day, at their home when he, although even then unable to be active thoroughly enjoyed the day with his wife, their seven children and their families. He was a family-loving man, his affection for them being an outstanding memory to his wife and children now. One of the things that he remarked oftentimes, before his body became plagued with constitutional disease, was that he had never missed a day of work in his life because of sickness. His health had been one of his greatest blessings, which, coupled with his ability, enabled him to become a successful farmer with just intentions and thoroughness. Since his retirement about 20 years ago, his farm has been managed by his sons. With his wife, all his children survive, as follows: Garrett and H. J. Tubbesing, and Mrs. Audie Childers, of near Quarles; Miss Ruby and Charles of the home; Mrs. Floyd Manning, of Jefferson City, and Mrs. R. H. Backman, of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: John and William Tubbesing and Mrs. Anna Sauerhagen, of Quarles; Mrs. William Ficken, of Cedar Hill; Mrs. Herman Bohle, of Greenville, IL. Two sisters, Mrs. Fred Cordes, Cedar Hill, and Mrs. Valentine Theis, St. Louis, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted in Clinton on Monday, and burial was in Englewood Cemetery. Those from out of the county attending the services included Mrs. William Ficken, daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Bonacker, son Herman Ficken, wife and two daughters, Romona and Irene, of Cedar Hill; Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Schierenberg, and Ted and John Brader, of Oswego, KS; Mrs. F. M. Achauer and son, Reynolds, of Warrensburg; Mrs. Floyd Manning, of Jefferson City, Mr. and Mrs. Backman and children, Annabelle and Charles, of Chicago, IL. The latter family remained until Tuesday.

Clinton MO - Mrs. Henry Tubbesing, a beloved and much valued resident of the Quarles community, where she had made her home more than half a century, slipped to the realms of eternity Monday, September 1, after being confined two weeks to her bed. Mrs. Tubbesing and her late husband, long influential factors in life in and around Quarles, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in March of this year with a family dinner and were at home in the afternoon to friends and neighbors. Death Of Ladue Man - The last summons came to Edward C. Turk at his home in LaDue, Christmas day, bringing to an end the failing health with which he had suffered several years. He was always active and busy until his health became so impaired he was no longer able to continue with his work, so he retired and everything was done that could be with the kind administrations of his faithful wife, who tenderly cared for him until the end with the help of other loved ones and friends. Edward Carrington Turk, son of Dr. J. G. and Ann Flowers Turk, was born in Milltown, Adair county, Kentucky, July 23, 1859. He came with his parents by steamboat to St. Louis, then went to Holden in Johnson county, Missouri, March 4, 1869, and they settled on a farm near Magnolia with other Kentucky friends. Here the young boy attended the rural school with his twin sister, Clara, and brother, J. S. Turk. After these school days were over, he enrolled at the State Training College at Warrensburg, then went to the Chicago Commercial College where he graduated with high honors. Mr. Turk's father came to Henry county in 1881 and Mr. Turk returned to the farm a short time, but soon engaged in the hardware business in LaDue. In 1889 he moved to Clinton and went into business with the late Albert Steck on the northwest corner of the square, where they operated nine years. When Steck & Tuck sold out, he traveled for a wholesale shoe company from Chicago 20 years, having a western territory and undergoing many hardships to continue his work. Later he made his home in Bloomington, Ill., continuing with the same firm until his health forced him to give up his position. Mr. and Mrs. Turk returned to LaDue where he took charge of the Hurley lumber yard 16 years, beginning in 1923. After it was discontinued, he employed his time in taking care of his farm. He took great pride in his fine orchard of many kinds of fruit and thoroughly enjoyed his work. He possessed fine business qualities, was clear in his thinking, fair in his contentions, and a genius in his salesmanship. To his friends he leaves the memory of a clean, wholesome, sincere personality, and to his wife, son and sister, is left the memory of a man in whom they could find many qualities to emulate and cherish. Miss Luella Allen of Griggsville, Ill., and Mr. Turk were married October 1, 1886, and they were given one son, Allen J. Turk, who survives. Mr. Turk was married the second time to Nannie C. Wilson in Bloomington, Ill. His wife survives, also his twin sister, Miss Clara Turk, of LaDue. When Mr. Turk lived in Bloomington, he and his wife transferred their membership from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church to the First Methodist Church. The funeral was conducted Friday in the LaDue Methodist Church.

Clinton MO, Aug 5 1893 - But to how few happy households does the death angel come twice and doubly wring the hearts of father and mother and others near and dear by the snatching away of two idolized children. Yet before me lies the sorrowful announcement: Irene Mitchell Turk, died June 2nd, 1893, aged 3 years, 3 months; Louise Rome Turk, died June 23, 1893, aged 18 months. A picture rises before me which I beheld just one short year since, when this household was an unbroken band. Sallie, Irene and Louise, beautiful in appearance, each appealing to the eye of the beholder in a different way, their beauty set off by their dresses of pure and dainty white. They were the cynosure of all eyes and the interest they excited on this occasion was well expressed by one, a stranger, who said: "I want to meet the mother of these lovely children." And now the younger two of them, who in life were inseparable, are no more. Grief and anguish is the portion of those who loved them. Their lives were short but will never be forgotten. Their merry baby prattle is hushed; their eyes forever closed in death but open, thank God, to a brighter, happier life in the kingdom above. There is a loneliness in the mountain home; a little sister bereft of those she loved; two lonely graves in the beautiful California valley. Yet, we sorrow not as those who have no hope for God took them.

Clinton MO, Jan 13 1900 - The death of Mrs. Ella Turk occurred at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday after an eight day's illness with pneumonia. She has been the beloved wife of J. S. Turk, who lives seven and one-half miles west of Clinton near Mt. Carmel, for 17 years and a wife, mother and neighbor was never held in higher esteem. she was nearly worshipped by those with whom she was associated. The daughter of J. H. Stark who lives near Chilhowee, she was born in Johnson Robinson County, Tennessee and would be 40 next May. Six children are left motherless and five daughters, the youngest being one year old. She was remarkable for her lovely character, spirit and beautiful face. She graduated with honors in the C. class of the State Normal at Warrensburg in 1876. At 15, she took the examination, received a certificate to teach and was given a school but gave it up to assist her mother. She was a great favorite with Prof. G. L. Osborn, the president of the school. Burial in Englewood. - In the winter of 1888, Z. T. Orr, assisted by Rev. Frank Williams, held a meeting eight miles west of Clinton, in the neighborhood where Mrs. Turk and her husband James Turk lived. During this meeting, the Mt. Carmel congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian church was organized and the Turks became charter members. Mrs. Turk was one of the prime movers in arranging for the meeting which resulted in the organization of the church, which has been a great blessing to the community. She was always in her place in the church, when circumstances would permit, and for a number of years, was a teacher in the Sabbath school, having charge of a class of girls who grew up to womanhood under her teaching. Monday night, January 8, she was taken very sick with pneumonia and continued to grow worse from the first. She was anxious to know her true condition and when her attending physician discovered she could not get well, the fact was made known to her. On receiving this information, she was perfectly calm and said to her husband: "It looks hard that I have to go and leave the children but I am not afraid to die." She talked to all the family with great composure, kissed them all goodby, took a ring off her finger and with her own hand, placed it upon the finger of her oldest daughter, Ethel, then motioning for another ring, which she placed on the finger of her son, Edward. At half past four in the morning of Jan. 16, she quietly passed into the realms beyond, being 39 years old. funeral was at the family residence the day following her death and notwithstanding the continued rain, a large crowd of friends came to pay their last tribute of respect to one they appreciated so highly. Singing at the funeral was conducted by the class of young ladies she had taught so often in the Sabbath school. As they sang some of the favorite songs of their teacher, who was herself a sweet singer, with their eyes filled with tears, one could easily see how dearly they loved her.
