d: Jul 11 2001, Clinton, Henry Co, MO
bur:
Englewood Cemetery UD-WE, Clinton, Clinton Twp, Henry Co, MO
arr: Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, MO

Clinton Daily Democrat, Jul 23 2001 - Anna Mae Wood Weaver was born to Viola and Roy Wood in Deepwater on October 5, 1919. During her childhood, she lived a short time in Appleton City and Peculiar. Her family returned to Deepwater when Anna Mae was in grade school and she called Deepwater her home for the rest of her life. Anna Mae died July 11, 2001, at Westwood Nursing Center. Anna Mae married Charles Clayton "Bud" Weaver on May 22, 1938. To this union were born two children, Evelyn Annette and Charles Douglas. Anna Mae greatly enjoyed her seven grandchildren, Ron McKellips, Jr., Sharon Tarwater, Lean Anna Foster, Melanie Weaver, Charles Weaver, Sarah Weaver and Seth Weaver. Her grandson, Troy Clayton McKellips, died at the age of two days in 1976. Anna Mae was also the proud great-grandma of 11 great-grandchildren, Kasi, Jessi and Justin; Jacob and Colten; Taylor, Cali, Laramie, Frankie and Brady, and Lauren. During her life, Anna Mae was very devoted to her family, always willing to give her love, affection and any help needed. When the time came she took care of her mother, Viola Wood, and her mother-in-law, Alma Herndon. After her son, Doug died, she looked after her daughter-in-law, Linda, and Doug's children. Annie, as everyone knew her by, was very active in her community all of her life. She was a pompom girl in high school. When her children were young, she was a member of the WSCS Women's Club, Booster Club, Cub Scout leader, home room mother and bible School teacher. Later in life, she was an active member of the Deepwater Senior Center, Deepwater Senior Housing, Deepwater Heritage Square and Deepwater Labor Harvest Picnic. She enjoyed the monthly card party with Uno Girls. Annie was a very talented artist and she was always willing to lend her time and artistic ability to any community project. She belonged to the Coffee Club which participated each year in the Deepwater Labor Harvest Parade. Everyone will always remember the Coffee Club's parade floats which featured eye-catching costumes and funny antics. Some years, Annie and Bud would work on as many as five parade floats. Another talent she had was as a member of the Kitchen Band, which played at the senior center and the surrounding nursing homes. Annie's contributions helped make Deepwater a good and fun place to live. Annie was an active member of the Deepwater Methodist Church and later, actively involved with the Deepwater Presbyterian Church. Annie came from a large family which developed a special closeness growing up through lean times in Deepwater. Annie's sister, Violet Marie, died at the age of three from pneumonia. In later years, the family's closeness continued through the large Wood family dinners extending to the fourth and fifth generations, with great food and where everyone was made to feel part of the family. With Annie gone, the only surviving members of her generation are her sister, Karen Etter; brother-in-law, Ron Witham, and sister-in-law, Georgetta Wood. Those who have passed on are Jewel and Boyce Miller, Jack and Doris Wood, Marvin Wood, Doris Witham and Kenneth Earl Wood. Annie's husband, Bud, died in September 1997. While her remaining family will miss her very much, we know she is now with God and we can only assume that there is a terrific family reunion going on in heaven. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel on Monday, July 16. Interment was in the Englewood Cemetery.

A few moments before his death, he complained for difficulty in breathing and arose to sit in a chair, asking his wife to open the door. His wife did so and then telephoned for Dr. Haire, who administered medicine but it did not give relief and he passed away as quietly as if going to sleep. He was a man of unfailing and constant courtesy, a careful and methodical businessman and occupied a place in the forefront of our business ranks until he retired in 1908. A gallant soldier during the Confederacy, he ever kept in mind the heroism and sacrifices of the Southland and was interested in the United Confederate Veterans and its allied associations. K., 6th Missouri Reg., and took part in the battles of Pea Ridge, Corinth, thru Hord's campaign, Atlanta and finally was paroled at Mobile at the close of the struggle in 1865. After pursuits in Texas until 1869, he returned to Missouri and to Clinton. A Cumberland Presbyterian. Married Nov. 12, 1856 to Miss Lelia V. Coutchfield. Clinton MO, Jan 27 1900 - Miss Maud Whitley Wells. On the morning of January 22, 2900, before the first grey light in the east had heralded the coming dawn of day, the angel of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Whitley and stilled forever the voice of their beloved daughter. Some three years ago, while Miss Maud was out skating, she fell on the ice, striking on the back part of her head, affecting her spinal column and, at times, her mind would become unbalanced and, as her health began to fail some two years ago from lung grouble, Mr. and Mrs. Whitley took her to Texas, where she was fanned the gentle Southern zephyrs, improving her health to a marked degree, but last November she was taken worse and gradually declined. Maud was born at Lewis Station may 6, 1881. Her mother died when she was but an infant but she found a home with Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Whitley and has been well cared for but she, too, has left them now and in her room can be found her many playthings that she held so sacred from her childhood days. The funeral was at the family residence, the house crowded with the sorrowing friends. A choir sang and tribute was given, then the cortege followed the remains to the Calhoun cemetery. The grave was lined with white fabric and trimmed with evergreens, and she was laid there to await the resurrection day.

Clinton MO - L. D. West, well known barber of LaDue, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday of heart trouble, complicated with asthma, from which he had been a sufferer the past two or three years. His wife, who gave him constant and devoted care was with her husband as he had spent a restless night, even predicting the oncoming storm, as his asthma was so bad. He was forced to sit in his chair most of the time as reclining made it more difficult for him to breathe, but just before his passing he rose, walked over to the bed and lay down, quietly surrendering his spirit to the Death Angel. Despite his ill health Mr. West had been able to go about his usual activities, doing some barbering the day before and the mild weather of his last day among men made him express the wish he could go fishing as he loved both to hunt and fish. Lorenza Dow West was born May 7, 1865, in Breckinridge County, Ky., the son of Felix West and Letitia Sankler West, both Kentuckians. When a small lad he came with his parents to LaDue where they settled on a nearby farm. Mr. West learned the trade of a barber as a young man and spent all of his life at or near his boyhood home. Mr. West was married Miss Jennie Branch of LaDue, who a few years later died when their only son Clarence was a little lad about three years of age. They were residents of Butler at the time. About 1895 he married Miss Louie Gibson of Butler, who made a kind and good mother for his boy and was a loyal helpmeet to her husband. They returned to LaDue to make their home. Mr. West was converted and enjoyed regular church attendance as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge when that brotherhood was active in LaDue. Mr. West was a man of genial happy disposition, who had many friends and was beloved by the boys of his acquaintance, especially those whose hair he cut, for the heart of the boy was ever alive in his breast. He always took delight in his early garden and the Friday before his death was out seeing about getting the ground ready for planting. He loved flowers and grew many beautiful ones. He liked to read, thinking it a real deprivation if he missed the daily paper. His son Clarence of Joplin and ten grandchildren survive Mr. West, likewise one brother, Bud West of Clinton, and one sister, Mrs. Laura B. Lawson of LaDue. The funeral services were Tuesday at the Christian Church, LaDue.
