Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Apr 20 2004 - William Everett Yancey, son of William Everett and Mildred Pauline (Banister) Yancey, was born December 16, 1937, in Kansas City and died at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, on March 26, 2004, at the age of 66 years. Bill was an independent insurance adjuster. He moved to Clinton five years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Teresa Lillibridge of Urich, Dee Dee Bergman of Memphis, Tennessee, and Kelly Weissinger of Lone Jack, as well as three grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Vansant-Mills Chapel Monday, March 29. Cremation.

YANDALL, Minerva C. WADE SMITH

Clinton Missouri - Minerva C. Wade died at her home in Shawnee Mound April 13 at 3:15 in the morning in her 87th year. Was the daughter of Dr. Wade and was the last of a family of 13 children. Born Oct. 20, 1817 (or 1818) in Kentucky and came to Henry County at the age of 12 and settled near what is now Shawnee Mound. Married to James W. Smith in her 17th year; three children, 2 sons and one daughter - R. B. Smith of Blairstown being the only living one. Left a widow in 1857 and again married, to J. W. Yandall in 1851 and they had four daughters, two living, Mrs. John Hood of Shawnee Mound and Mrs. John Cunningham of Holden.

Clinton MO - Mrs. T. H. Yandell, sister of Joe, George, and Jim Julian, of Clinton, died at her home in Parsons Kansas, Wednesday of last week, after an illness of four months with influenza and complications. Martha Julian was born near Calhoun 69 years ago and was reared to womanhood in this county. She joined the Tebo Baptist Church when a young women, and remained true to her faith throughout her life, her membership being still at Tebo at her death. At the time of her marriage to T. H. Yandell, deceased lived near Leesville, and she and her husband made their home many years in Sedalia. The past 12 or 15 years they resided in Parsons. Her husband survives her, also two sons and three daughters, the three brothers above mentioned and a sister, Mrs. Mary Beeler of Sedalia who was 82 years old and unable to come for the funeral, Judge Joe Julian visited her Sunday and Monday preceding the Wednesday of her death. Funeral services were Friday. at the Tebo Baptist Church. Burial in the cemetery nearby.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Oct 6 2003 - Everett Paul Yandle was born January 1, 1968, to Raymond P. Yandle, Sr. and Betty G. Yandle in Kansas City, and died at the Golden Valley Hospital, Clinton, on September 20, 2003, at the age of 35 years. He attended schools in Cass and Henry counties where he graduated from Clinton High School in 1986. He was married to Laurie Kempker February 20, 1988, by Pastor Darrell Burch of the Rose of Sharon Church, Kansas City. Together they had two beautiful daughters and moved to the Clinton area. He worked for the Annex Railroad Builders before getting hurt on the job and becoming disabled. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Laurie, and two daughters, Jodie and Jamie, all of the home; three brothers, Bill Blankenship and wife Mary, Raymond Yandle, Jr. and wife Dawn Hagan and Steven Yandle and wife Christie Taylor, all of Clinton; one sister, Janie Blankenship and husband Tom Reitan, Independence; his mother-in-law, Bernice Kempker of Independence, as well as a sister and brother-in-law, Lee's Summit; a sister and brother-in-law of Arkansas; eight nieces, 12 nephews, eight great-nieces and 11 great-nephews. Memorial services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel on Saturday, September 27.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Jan 5 2004 - Laura "Bugsy" Clevenger Yarber, 53, Calhoun, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at her home in Calhoun. Laura was born in Urbana, Illinois, the daughter of William S. and Elizabeth (Kincannon) Buntin. She was the former mayor of Calhoun. She was also very active in politics, being involved with the Young Democrats. Laura was employed at Marolf Tire for 17 years and then with Tracker Marine for the past 16 years as an upholsterer. Laura would get pleasure from camping, fishing and gardening, especially planting tomatoes and then her biggest enjoyment came when she could eat those tomatoes. Spending time with her husband Charlie; brother Mike and nephew Russell, playing cards and watching Chiefs football were also some of her greatest pleasures. Her most enjoyable time came when her buddy, Ethan Hawkins, would spend the weekend with her. They would watch movies, play games on the computer and prepare macaroni and cheese. Funeral services were held at the Quarles Baptist Church Saturday, December 13. Burial was in Calhoun cemetery.

Clinton MO - Anna Rebecca Doss, daughter of James and Joann Doss, was born in Brownington, MO, May 14, 1883, and died at the Clinton General Hospital Feb 4, 1953. She was one of 15 children, seven of whom preceded her in death. She was married to John Franklin Yates and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Forest Renfro of Clinton. Mrs. Yates went as a bride to the Yates farm, two miles east of Quarles. There she resided until the death of her husband, May 16, 1949. She then moved to Clinton where she lived until her death. She had a room in the home of Mrs. Lizzie Lawrence, North Main St., later moving to West Jefferson. Mrs. Yates was a happy, industrious person, always busy, and after moving to Clinton entered the employ of the Hampton Cafe, South Main St. There her culinary skills and fine spirit of service endeared her to all. A year ago she became ill, requiring hospitalization several times, but through all trials she remained courageous and cheerful. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lucia Renfro, who, with her husband, resides on the Yates farm, a grandson, Jay Renfro, a granddaughter, Mrs. Gwendolyn Webb, and two great-grandchildren, Allen and Susan Webb. The surviving brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Mary Bybee, Brownington; Mrs. Cora Combs and Robert Doss, Calhoun; Wade Doss, Lewis Station; Ed Doss, Windsor; Sam Doss, Hartman, CO; and Harry Doss, Sheridan, SY. One brother, John Doss of Deepwater, preceded her in death two weeks ago. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery.

Clinton MO - Dorcas Griffith, the daughter of Amassa and Hanna Griffith, was born in Pratsburg, N.Y., April 18, 1838. She was married to Joseph Land in 1860, who died in 1873. To this union two children were born - one daughter, who is now Mrs. Isaac Padfield; one son, Louis, who died in infancy. February 22, 1877, she married Andrew Yates, of St. Clair county, Ill., who had five motherless boys to whom she had been a real mother, tenderly caring for them as her own. She came to this country, 1884, which had since been her home. She was a woman of sterling worth, loved and respected by all who knew her, always ready to help her neighbors in sorrow and distress. She was a charter member of the Quarles Baptist church and was always at her post of duty until ill health prevented her attending. She was always interested in the progress of her church. She passed away May 11, at the home of her son, John, where she had been so tenderly cared for by his wife and her daughter, Mrs. Padfield. They had given her such loving care through all her affliction. She leaves to mourn her going four sons - John and Jesse, of the home; Samuel, Springfield, Colo.; Kennedy, Los Angeles, Cal.; one daughter, Mrs. Sarah Padfield; 3 granddaughters - Mrs. Cora Lingle and Mrs. Clara Langford, and Mrs. Lucie Renfro, of Clinton; also one great-granddaughter, two sisters, Mrs. Merriett McLeod and Mrs. Miranda Beversten, of Kansas City, Mo., besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends, who will miss this good woman's going. Her funeral was conducted at the home Sunday, May 12, and her body was laid to rest in Englewood.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Ernest H. (Ernie) Yates, 71, Kingsville, died Sunday, April 25, 1993 at his home. He lived in Kingsville since 1976 and in Johnson County since 1958. He was born October 25, 1921, son of Thomas Hughes Yates and Alice Myrtle Hawks Yates in Osceola. He owned and operated Yates Excavating Co. in Kingsville from 1962 to 1980. He then owned and operated L&E Wholesale Distributors in Kingsville from 1980 to 1992. He was an Army Motor Sgt. in World War II. He was a Baptist. He married Alice Loraine Robinette on March 13, 1950 in Turner, Ks. She survives her husband. Other survivors are a daughter Geraldine Yates of Clinton; a son Thomas O. Yates of Lone Jack; two stepsons, Jim Templeton of Lake Winnebago and Dave Templeton of Blue Springs; 11 grandchildren; one brother William Yates of Osceola. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden; burial in Kingsville Cemetery.

Clinton MO - Death claimed Jesse Yates, rural mail carrier for 16 years, at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 1938, after an illness of four months. Crippled since his fourth year by spinal meningitis, he had borne his cross with the courage of the Spartan and though he had suffered and been able to move only with the aid of crutches he had filled an important place in this work-a-day world. Complaints did not pass his lips and bravery shone in his eyes, for his spirit was noble and nobly he died. Jesse Yates was born November 17, 1870, in St. Clair, Illinois, the son of Wm. Andrew Yates and Lucia Yates. In 1884 he and his parents came to Missouri to the Quarles community where he continued to make his home, fitting his broken body into a useful life's pattern and getting the most possible from those 16 years, as the first carrier of Clinton, Route 5, out of Clinton where the patrons daily expected him as no storm was too severe for him to start. His courageous service was an example to the other carriers, usually going in a horse-drawn two wheel cart or even on a horse. He began his service in 1902. He lived in Clinton during his postal service but when his physical condition disqualified him he then went to the farm home of his brother John E. Yates, and his good wife, who gave him every kindness and consideration. Needing to be busy he occupied himself with what is usually considered the feminine occupation of piecing quilts. Because inactivity being forced upon him he found in the assembling of colors and the working out of patterns an outlet that was cheerful and had a fir share of usefulness. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of the World. Surviving this brave and patient man whose life was so circumspect, yet so full, are his brother John and wife of Quarles, Samuel A. Yates of Coldwater, Kans., and Kennedy Yates of Denver, Colo. The funeral services were conducted at the Consalus and Peck Funeral Home Wednesday. His poor crippled body was laid to rest in the Windsor Cemetery.

Clinton MO - John F. Yates, of the Quarles neighborhood, passed away Monday, May 16, 1949, at 3:23 p.m. at the Wetzel hospital, where he had been following a stroke suffered at his home on May 9. Mr. Yates was born December 29, 1875, in Mascoutah, IL, the son of Andrew and Lucy (Dow) Yates. He came to Missouri with his parents when he was eight years old. They settled east of Quarles, which has been him home ever since. He was married to Miss Anna Doss in 1905. To this union was born one child, Lucia B. Yates, now Mrs. Forrest Renfro, of Clinton. His father preceded him in death November 29, 1914, and his mother on May 11, 1929; also two brothers, Jesse and William Yates. He is survived by his wife, of the home, the one daughter, two grandchildren, Gwendolyn B. Webb and Jay Luther Renfro, and two great grandchildren, Allen David and Susan Gwen Webb. He also leaves two brothers, Samuel A. Yates of Wilmore, Kans., and Kennedy A. Yates, of Denver, Colo., and a step-sister, Sara Padfield, of Clinton. Mr. Yates had been an active farmer all of his adult years. He loved the land and lived a life of the outdoors, where nature abounded. His one hobby was fishing. He was devoted to his family and to his friends. He was always ready to help a friend, whenever he needed help. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Consalus Funeral Home with burial in Englewood Cemetery by the side of his parents.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, May 19 2006 - Funeral services for Charles Yeager Sr., 76, Bloomfield, Nebraska, were Friday, May 12, 2006 at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Mr. Yeager died Monday, May 8, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery, Brockhaus Scott Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Charles Arthur Yeager Sr. was born August 15, 1929, at Springfield. He was adopted by Charles Augustus and Agnes Lillian (Hartley) Yeager. The family moved to Clinton where Charles attended school and graduated from Clinton High School in 1948. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Port Arthur, Texas, on August 20, 1955. He attended Central Missouri State College and was a salesman for Ricemore, Kansas City. He then moved to Minneapolis where he was sales manager for Ringer St. Croix Company, Stillwater, Minnesota. On February 13, 1956, he married LaVonne Holtorf at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. They lived at White Bear Lake, Minnesota. IN 1962, they moved to Bloomfield, Nebraska, where they were the first managers of the new Good Samaritan Center. Charles was a sales rep for Darton Archery and was an avid fisherman and hunter, guiding pheasant and duck hunters for a number of years. He was a golf pro and greens keeper for a number of years before opening a gun shop in his home. He and his wife and son enjoyed traveling to gun shoes in the Midwest. Charles was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Charles and LaVonne observed 50 years of marriage this year. Survivors include his wife Lavonna, and son Charles, Bloomfield. He was preceded in death by his parents.

YEAGER, John Edward

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Memorial services for John Edward Yeager, 53, were held on Monday, June 6, at the Congregational Presbyterian Church at Osage and 6th Streets in Sedalia. Mr. Yeager died June 2, 1994, at Boone Hospital Center after a brief illness. He was born January 15, 1941, in Otterville, the son of Francis Edward and Myna Hull Yeager. Educated in the public schools of Otterville, he graduated from Lincoln University, Jefferson City, with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Mr. Yeager's career encompassed many positions in both public and private service. Some of his associations included the Missouri Transportation and Development Council, Missouri State Labor Council, Kemper Military School and College in Bonneville, Missouri Valley College of Marshall, and Matt Reese and Associates of Washington, D.C. Mr. Yeager was also associated with the Fulton Sun newspaper of Fulton, and the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce, for which he was the executive secretary. Upon leaving the Fulton area, he became the executive assistant to the Mayor of Fayette, and then the executive secretary for the Tipton Development Authority. Mr. Yeager became the head of the five-county Sho-Me Regional Planning Commission, headquartered at Warrensburg, a position he held at the time of his death. In 1963 he was married to Helene K. Jackson of Jefferson City, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter Ms. Elizabeth Kuda of Deepwater; three sons, John Junior of Houston, Texas, and Charles J. Yeager and Morgan H. Yeager of Otterville; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Eicholz, Mrs. Myna Lawson of Topeka, Ks., and a brother Charles O. Yeager, Otterville, and three grandchildren. Mr. Yeager's younger daughter, Mrs. Laurel Kempker, preceded him in death earlier this year.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Graveside services will be Friday at Clinton Memory Garden. John was born August 9, 1932, in Clinton, the son of John Taylor Sr. and Flossie (Webb) Yeager. He was a 1950 graduate of North Kansas City High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Science from CMSU. He was a US Army Veteran. John was employed as a chemist with Pratt & Lambert in Buffalo, New York, and retired as vice president after 37 years. He was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Butler, where he taught Sunday School, served as counsel member and assisted in preaching. He enjoyed golfing, camping, square dancing and always had at least one book he was involved in reading. John was a quick-witted person who always had a joke and enjoyed sharing them with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law Glenn McFarland. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Nancy Yeager; daughters, Karen Yeager of Lee's Summit and Kelly Lindley and her husband David, Atlanta, Georgia; son John Taylor Yeager III and his girlfriend Joy West, Lawrence, Kansas; grandchildren, Taylor, Drew and Shelby Staudinger; mother Flossie Yeager; brothers and sisters, Don Yeager and his wife Pat, Raytown, Sis McFarland of Kearney, Jerry Yeager and his wife Sharon, Pleasant Valley, Judy Hirsch and her husband Paul, Raytown, Jim Yeager and his wife Kris, Liberty, Cindy Rose and her husband Bill, Kanas City, and his beloved dog, Sissy.

Yeager, 87, Clinton, who died Monday, October 28, at Golden Valley Hospital, will be held Wednesday, October 30, at the Seventh day Adventist Church, Clinton. Graveside services and burial will be Thursday, October 31, in the Bison, Kansas Cemetery. Mr. Yeager was born September 28, 1909, at Bison, Ks., to J. F. and Elizabeth Virginia Lohrey Yeager. He was the oldest of five children. He attended school in the Shafer, Kansas Seventh day Adventist Church School and graduated from the Enterprise, Kansas Academy. He was a farmer in early life and later worked for and retired from the Adventist Health System. He married his childhood sweetheart during the dust storm years of 1932 in Hillsboro, Kansas. They had two children, Norma Jean and Daryle Dean. Me was a good Bible student and loved to study the Word. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mollie, of the home; his daughter Norma Jean Sandquist, Creighton; his son Daryle Dean Yeager of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother John A. Yeager of Creighton; one sister Mildred Schaffler of Okeene, Ok., and one half-sister, Clystia Hayes of the state of Florida. Also surviving are his three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Mollie Yeager, 90-years-old of Clinton, died October 2, 1998, at her home. Mollie was born June 19, 1908, in Rock Ford, Colorado, to John and Elizabeth Haglegantz, where her parents operated a farm. While she was still young she and her parents moved to Rush County, Kansas, where she helped with the chores on the farm until she was enrolled at Enterprise Academy. Mollie enjoyed her stay at the academy. She was especially active in the music department because of her love for good music. She also became very good at whistling and was able to imitate quite a number of birds. In her senior year she and her family took an extended trip to Oregon just before her graduation and she wasn't able to stay and receive her diploma. On November 20, 1932, she married her childhood sweetheart, Leslie Yeager, and to this union two children were born, Norma Jean and Daryle Dean. They continued in the family tradition of farming until 1945 when they moved to Olathe, Kansas, so Norma's brother could attend the Kansas School for the Deaf. Mollie loved experimenting with new types of food which helped her get a job in a health food and deli store in Kansas City. In 1955 Mollie and Leslie heard of a deaf church in Vancouver, Washington, and decided they wanted to give their young son every advantage that they could, so they moved all the way across the country to be near to the church. Mollie continued her work in the Dietary Department of Portland Sanatorium and Hospital. While there they also were to become foster parents. After Daryle left home and their daughter married and was in Boulder, Colorado, Mollie and Leslie moved to Boulder, where Mollie continued showing her skill by working in the bakery of Boulder Memorial Hospital until her retirement. With her retirement and her daughter moving out to the Great Plains of Kansas, Leslie and Mollie moved to Silom Springs, Arkansas, where they were members of the church and Mollie spent many hours helping with the community services program. Mollie and her husband made two more moves in their lifetime together, so they could be near to the family and making their last home together in Clinton in 1993. Mollie loved working in her garden with the vegetables and her flowers. Her love for children always shown through because all the neighborhood children would be spending time at Mollie's house. Mollie loved her church and all of her church family. Because of her love for children, Mollie especially had a soft spot for the quiet hour and the work that they do for the children and she made this one of her passions during her later life. Mollie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years on October 28, 1996. Mollie is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean Sandquist, Creighton, and a son, Daryle Dean Yeager of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Steve Sandquist of Kansas City, Kansas, Lisa Rene Kraulk of Donaldson, Minnesota, and Eric Rachel Sandquist of Creighton; four great-grandchildren and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of other loved ones and friends. She is now awaiting the day when she will again meet with all in heaven. Funeral services were held Monday, October 5, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Clinton. Burial was Tuesday, October 6, at Shaffer Cemetery in Shaffer, Kansas, under the direction of Consalus Funeral Home of Clinton.

She was a member of the Blue Ridge Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lou Bloss. Survivors include her husband, William A. "Bill" Yearout of the home; one daughter, Dorothy Hunsucker, Platte City; one sister, Rhoda Siercks, Clinton; five grandchildren, Rick Sutcliffe, Terry L. Clinton MO - The pitiful, lifeless body off Frank Yearout hung from a rafter in the garage, at his 505 North Fourth street home, was discovered by Marshal Henry Westerman and Mrs. Yearout at 2:15 p.m. Monday. A .38 caliber revolver, from which one shot had been fired and bespatter with blood had fallen from his hand. Coroner, Dr. S. B. Hughes, set the time of death the evening before, which was corroborated by neighbors and others who had seen him late Sunday afternoon. Mr. Yearout had mounted a large wooden box, probably four or five feet high, and fastening the noose around his neck had then fired the shot into his moth that brought death instantly. The bullet passed out the left side of his forehead near the hair line and up through the roof of the garage. (No one in the neighborhood reported hearing a shot). The feet then slipped off the box and the rope pulled taught, double precaution taken to insure death should his hand waver or last minute courage fail. Fully clad in old blue trousers and a heavy tan sweater, his life's blood stained both, the box and dirt floor beneath, there he remained alone, even death not tarrying, through the gruesome hours of the night watches and half the next day, as life in north Clinton again took up its usual course unconscious of the tragedy and horror undiscovered in its very midst. Mr. Yearout, 64, who lost his mother in March, a year ago, married Mrs. Lena Edmonson of Clinton last August, whose husband had been killed on the Katy in 1934. Mr. Yearout had continued making his home at the above mentioned address the property of his late mother, and did not have steady employment, having a small income from his mother's estate. Mrs. Yearout's younger son, Roy, had but lately recovered from a case of scarlet fever, the three weeks' quarantine having been lifted Friday. The following incidents lead up to the tragedy according to Mrs. Yearout at 2:45 p.m. Monday. Sunday morning Mr. Yearout had gotten out his two revolvers and with oil can and cloths had gone to the wood pile in the back yard where he had seated himself, cleaning and polishing one of them. He ate a hearty dinner and had talked with frank Edmonson, elder son of his wife. Mrs. Yearout spoke of her intention to go to visit her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Witherspoon, on Fifth street, and Mr. Yearout asked her how long she had planned to be gone, and she replied, but a short time. I don't know if I'll be here when you get back. Oh yes I will, you'll find a check in here with what money there is left in the bank for you and you'll find my body around here somewhere." "Now, you are talking silly," Mrs. Yearout answered, and went on to Mrs. Witherspoons, thinking nothing serious was wrong, although he did seem to resent her care of her children when they were ill. Mrs. Yearout returned home about 4:30 Sunday, to find the house empty and after hunting through the rooms she discovered a note from Mr. Yearout on the dresser in the south bedroom and a check for $145. The note stated that family trouble had made him take the step and that his wife was not to blame, as he was still fond of her, but that this was his own way out. Other comments were included and the request that his sister, Mrs. Ida George, of Washington, D.C., be notified, his only survivor other than Mrs. Yearout and her family. Taking the note and check Mrs. Yearout went to Mrs. Roy Williamson's home at the corner of Elm and Fourth streets, showed them to her, saying she was afraid. They and the Edmondson sons looked then for Mr. Yearout and one of the boys spied him through the open garage door, seated in his car, which was in the south half, the north half of the garage being used for gardening tools and storage. Continuing to observe without being seen, Mr. Williamson and others later saw him go into the house and after a time back to the garage. Sheriff Dalton Davis was notified about 6:00 p.m. Sunday and going to the Williamsons, talked with them and since they had seen Yearout walking about, thought it was just a scare, as he is said to have threatened suicide on other occasions, and Mr. Davis left. Mrs. Yearout went back to her daughter's to spend the night and Monday morning went up town to cash the check, which was not honored, being slightly more than the account, so Mrs. Yearout returned to the Williamson home, saying she was afraid to go home since Yearout had those two guns. She then went back up town to see Mr. Westerman about the check, who sent her to Mark Wilson, prosecuting attorney, who told her to go back to Mr. Westerman and get him to take her home and ask Yearout to make the check out for the exact amount. Thus the morning was consumed and it was about 2:00 p.m. when Mr. Westerman took Mrs. Yearout home, and finding no trace of her husband, a light on in the northwest bedroom and a profound stillness, began to investigate. Going to the garage, he opened the door to be faced with the gruesome sight, told above. No inquest was deemed necessary, as all facts were self evident. Consalus & Peck were notified as the last rambling note had requested and the body was taken to prepare for burial. The funeral services were Wednesday at the Consalus and Peck Funeral Home. Interment at Englewood.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Feb 25 2002 - Lila Marie Hendricks Yeates daughter of Georgia Anna Thomas Hendricks and Joseph Lee Hendricks, was born February 27, 1911, in Ballard. She went to her heavenly home February 9, 2002, after a brief stay at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. She was 99 years, 11 months and nine days of age. Lila attended Fairview Grade School near Ballard. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1929 and continued her education at the University in Warrensburg. Following her education, she taught elementary school for a brief time. Lila was united in marriage Roy Uel Yeates March 8, 1933, in the home of the late Rev. Lindsey in Clinton. During their early life together on the farm, the church was always of foremost importance Times being hard during the Depression caused them to decide to move to California for work. In a few years they were able to return to Missouri where they both found employment in Independence. Roy worked at Allis Chalmers until his death in July of 1965 and Lila was employed by Woodcraft. Lila then moved to Clinton to be closer to her sister and niece, making her home at 204 East Oak. She then transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church of Clinton. Lila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Nestlerode. She is survived by one sister, Nona Nestlerode, Clinton; a niece, Corlene Wilson and husband, Junior Wilson; one great-nephew, Carl Lee Wilson, Topeka, Kansas, one great-niece, Cynthia Glasscock and husband, Tim Glasscock, Clinton; two great-great-nephews, Derek Wilson Taylor Glasscock; one great-great-niece, Maren Wilson; one great-great-great-niece Blakeland Townsend, and one great-great-great-nephew, Braiten Townsend. Funeral services were held February 12 at Consalus Chapel, Clinton. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

She was born September 9, 1911, in Urich, to Benjamin Franklin and Anna Esther (Crust) Miller. She grew up and attended school in the Urich area. On May 27, 1929, she married Claude Willis Yeates at Vinita, Oklahoma. Following their marriage the couple farmed in Missouri before making their home in Chanute and Independence. In the early 1940s, the couple moved to Coffeyville where Mr. Yeates retired from the Co-Op Refinery. Mrs. Yeates was employed at Karbe's Super Market, Newberry's and Penney's for approximately 10 years, beginning in the mid-1940s. Mr. Yeates preceded his wife in death February 2, 1993. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Nozark Sunday School Class. She is survived by one daughter Phyllis Gaskill of Frisco, Texas; one brother Cleo Miller, Las Vegas, Nevada; one grandson, David Gaskill, and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Francis. Funeral services were Sunday, July 24, at the Consalus Chapel, Clinton. Burial was in Mullin Cemetery, Henry County.

Clinton Missouri, Feb 11 1905 - Died at 2:30 o'clock, Saturday morning, February 4, 1905, John H. Yentzer, at his residence in Deepwater, from pneumonia. Born near Aldron, Ohio, August 13, 1843. Enlisted in the northern army as a fifer. Served about 3 years; was wounded, soon discharged. Married to Ettie Crum March 14, 1868; two children. Their eldest daughter Maud died about 12 years ago, and the youngest and only daughter Genevieve and her mother are left to stem the tide until the Good Lard says "Come up higher, it's enough." The deceased has one brother living in Ohio. He moved to Cass county about 1871 and from there to Deepwater; first engaged in the mercantile business and after a few years, he went into the banking business and was elected bank president. He was also president of the school board. Mr. Yentzer was not a church member but we have good evidence that he was a Christian.

F. and Hattie Williams Yessen. On February 8, 1947, in Mound City, Kansas, he married Betty Cummings, who survives of the home. He was raised and educated in Sedalia, moving to Clinton in 1946 and returning to Sedalia in 1958. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591, and was a past board member of Meals On Wheels. He worked at the former Beatrice Foods for 27 years and the former Tullis Hall Dairy for 13 years, retiring in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Other survivors include a daughter, Harriett Taft, Seattle; two brothers, Carl R. Yessen, Overland Park, Kansas; Lawrence T. Yessen, Seneca; three sisters, Wanneta Smith and Louise Orr, both of Sedalia, Dorothy Lewis, Lancaster, Calif., and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 9, at the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.

She died September 5 , 2001, at Truman Medical Center-Lakewood, in Kansas City. She had lived in Clinton until 1996 and that time moved to Oak Grove. She married Charles H. Yewell in 1925 and he preceded her in death in 1978. She was a homemaker. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughters, Evelyn Ross, and one granddaughter, Sandra Moritz. Survivors include one son, Dallas Yewell, Oak Grove; one daughter, Marcella Ozburn, Blue Springs; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held September 10 at Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Consalus Funeral Home.

Clinton MO - Mrs. Kate Kyle Yingling went into eternity a little after 11 o'clock Sunday night at the Stebbins Hospital. She drank about four ounces of chloroform before seven o'clock Saturday morning at the home of Mrs. Clay Dow and Mrs. Marion Turk, on North Second Street. She was their old neighbor and without friends or a home, coming to them eight weeks previous, hoping and praying that a home would be provided for her by her son, her brother or other relatives. She had, however, never mentioned to those dear friends who housed her that she had any idea of taking her life. She did not want to impose on them and daily met the postman expecting the letter might come from those nearest in kin, saying some provision had been made for her. Each day she hopefully said, "the letter will come tomorrow." In the note she left to her friends, she was still expecting it and requested that they open it, read and answer it. She was a woman of culture and refinement, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Barrett, of Harrisonville, who were at one time the wealthiest residents of that place. She was well educated having attended a college for girls in St. Louis, and was a fine pianist. She married J. H. Kyle and spent much of her married life in Clinton. Her husband is dead. One son Billie survives. Her nature was kind and happy and into her home she brought nephews and relatives, whom she mothered and cared for many years. She returned to Clinton some months ago, happy to see her old friends and greeting them with a merry smile, all she knew, not telling any her troubles. Just a few weeks ago she met the writer and extended sympathy in our sorrow, telling how she esteemed the late editor of the Eye. We watched her stop and greet the old darkies on the street, who had formerly worked for her in her home, not dreaming she was in the depths or despair. She had always given to others and she found it impossible to impose on others. How these weeks must have irked her, worried her until her only thought was how she could make herself less a burden for those who had befriended her. Taking no human being in her confidence, when she could stand the worry no longer, she took the only way she could see out. She was a devoted member of the M. E. Church, South, for many years, and we know that the merciful Master has taken her to a Home free from worries. He does not forget. During her years of wifehood and motherhood she made a wonderful home where economy was practiced in the right way, the best in life utilized. It is not given us to understand, why her spirit had to be tried beyond human endurance. She wrote the farewell note to Mrs. Douglass and two daughters, Mrs. Turk and Mrs. Dow, with a firm hand with pen and ink, telling them how grateful she was to them for their kindness and shelter. That she had a small sum in the bank and that she wished this used for funeral expenses. To use her best clothes for her burial and not to have a funeral, as she did not think her "fair weather" friends would care to come, also the names of relatives to whom she wished clippings of her death sent. She did not reproach those who had failed her in her hour of need - it was rather the baring of a woman's broken heart. This was read to the jury who returned a verdict of suicide, from drinking chloroform. Mrs. Turk said Mrs. Yingling, had sat up the night before reading a book (she was well informed on every question) and retired late. They never disturbed her in the morning, so thought nothing of it when she did not get up when Mrs. Dow went to the bank. But around 8, Mrs. Turk looked in her room and saw that something was wrong and called Mrs. Dow, also Dr. Woltzen, but both detected the odor of Chloroform and upon examination found the four ounce bottle empty. All possible was done to save her and that evening they took her to the hospital where every aid possible was given. Her friends remained with her to the end, also Mr. and Mrs. Ira Kunkler. Mrs. Dow and Mrs. Turk have given to Mrs. Yingling these last weeks their love, their cheer and home. They left nothing undone and with this intimate contact with her, they never dreamed that she contemplated suicide, so it came, like a death of their only people. They grieve most, for to them was given the opportunity of knowing the fineness of her life. A graveside prayer service according to her last request was conducted at Englewood.

He is survived by his wife, Wilda of the home; two sons, Donald Yoachum and David Yoachum; one step-son, Lynn Tate of Warrensburg; three daughters, Denise Yoachum, Jennifer Yoachum and Patty Robb of Warrensburg; three step-daughters, Sonya Severini of Osceola, Nanette Knoles and Tricity Dehn, both of Clinton; one brother, Dan Yoachum of Kansas City, and 19 grandchildren. Private graveside services and burial were held at the Clinton Memory Gardens Cemetery on Wednesday, March 14.

Mrs. Yoachum was born September 12, 1921, in Kansas City, the daughter of Henry Macoln Skinner. On July 27, 1940, she was married to Louis Russell Yoachum, who preceded her in death May 4, 1983. For a number of years she worked as a supervisor of laundry in a nursing home. She was of the Catholic Faith. She came to Clinton in 1988 from Gardner, Kansas. She is survived by two sons, Donald Joseph Yoachum and wife, Wilda, of rural Clinton, and Daniel Louis Yoachum and wife, Sharon, of Kansas City; one sister, Daisy Schmolzi, Madison, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Neal; one brother, Harry Skinner and one half-brother, Herb Skinner. Cremation.

She was born in Calhoun January 29, 1913, the daughter of Rolland and Bernice Thomas. She was raised in Calhoun and she married Hubert H. Yoder July 4,1937. They lived in Kansas City and she was employed by the Social Security Administration as a clerk After their retirement, they moved to their lake house near Edwards. She then moved back to Calhoun following her husband's death. She was a member of the Calhoun United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert, February 4, 1974, and one sister, Virginia Harding, February 4, 1977. She is survived by her nephew, Mike Harding and his wife, Linda, Kansas; one great-niece, one great-nephew and two great-great-nieces. She is also survived by her friends, Nancy and Jim George, and their children and grandchildren who knew Shirley affectionately as Granny. Graveside services and interment for Shirley E. Yoder will be held Wednesday, October 15, at the Calhoun Cemetery.

Mrs. Yohn was born August 14, 1909, at Bear Creek. Her parents were Thomas and Hattie (Whitchurch) Tribble. She attended schools in Clinton. She had lived in the Kansas City area since 1950. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove Methodist Church. She was married to Warren Yohn on November 11, 1929, at Clinton. He preceded her in death November 14, 1984. Surviving are two sons, Wendell Yohn, Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Wayne Yohn, Richmond, Virginia; one sister Susie Cook, Lawrence, Kansas; six grandchildren, Melinda Phillips, Cambridge, Nebraska, Marsha Geiss, Grand Island, Nebraska, Michelle Adamson, Long Island, Kansas, Wendy Yohn, Blue Springs, Patti Betz, Liberal, Kansas, Michael Yohn, Pittsburg, Kansas; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her daughter Peggy Adamson preceded her in death in 1986. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. The body has been cremated. Memorial graveside services will be Saturday, February 28, at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton.

Wendell E. Yohn, 79, Baxter Springs, Kansas, died February 12, 2011, at 10 p.m., with his family at his side after a courageous five year battle with cancer. Mr. Yohn was born on May 8, 1932 (Mother's Day) to Mildred (Tribble) and Warren Yohn at Garden City. Later the family moved to Ottawa, Kansas, where he graduated from high school in Princeton, Kansas. After high school Wendell served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. Later he attended Stevenson's Automotive School in Kansas City. Mr. Yohn was a long haul truck driver for Yellow Freight System retiring in 1997. Before that, he drove for REA Express Agency. During his career he drove over a million miles for the two companies. He belonged to First United Methodist Church. Baxter Springs, Kansas. Among his hobbies were bowling, fishing and golfing. He was a train enthusiast, of all sizes He married Betty Waller on May 31, 1958, and she resides in the home. To this union three children were born: Wendy Yohn, Independence, Patti Betz (husband, Duart) Liberal, Kansas, and Michael Yohn, Baxter Springs, Kansas; three grandchildren, Patrick Betz (wife, Joyce), Anniston, Alabama, Patrice Betz, Liberal, Kansas, and Acacia Yohn, Baxter Springs, Kansas; two great-grandsons, Austin and Ryan Betz, Anniston, Alabama, and a brother. Wayne Yohn, Kileen, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Adamson. Graveside services will be held at Englewood Cemetery on Friday, May 27.

She worked and lived in several locations throughout her life. She retired from Guy's in Kansas City in 1979 and moved to Appleton City. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City and was baptized on August 11, 1912, and confirmed on April 5, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City. She served her church with her participation as Sunday school teacher, Altar Guild, Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Reinhold, Walter and John Yoss, and a sister Lydia (Yoss) Rapp. She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services were at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City on Sunday, September 23. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Elizabeth Ross Idol was born Dec. 17, 1909 in Pleasant Hill, the daughter of Edgar R. and Mary Elizabeth Shouse Idol. She died Jan. 9, 1994 at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City. She was graduated from Harrisonville High School with the Class of 1927 and then attended Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg. For two years she taught second grade in Harrisonville and in 1932 she began conducting cooking schools for the M. C. Taylor Advertising Co. and she also worked for the Kerr Canning Co. In 1936 she began working for the Spofford Home in Kansas City and two years later began assisting her family with the publishing of the Cass County Democrat, an Idol family owned paper in Harrisonville. She continued in this capacity until 1954 when she went to Appleton City to become editor of the Appleton City Journal. Believing that a town's newspaper should be a leading force of the community in which it serves, she immediately became involved in civic affairs upon her arrival there. She became a member, later serving as secretary and the president of the Appleton City Service Club (a forerunner of the present Community Club). She was Bloodmobile Chairman of the Red Cross for many years. Known affectionately as "Liz," she has been involved in an almost endless list of interests during her residence in Appleton City. She was secretary of the Centennial Celebration Committee. She produced two books concerning that celebration. She has been active in the Park Board, the Library Board, Prairie Queen Garden Club, the Jefferson Club, and had served on the Fair Board for many years. She was instrumental in the formation of the Prairie Queen Historical Organization and no one will ever know the hours she spent assuring that the history of Appleton City would not be lost at some time in the future. While preserving the history of the past, she was vitally concerned about the future of the town and its citizens. She was a driving force in the development of the Donnohue-Dugan Park and for several summers she could be found supervising her young friends as they enjoyed the pool. Colonial Manor Nursing Home and Ellett Memorial Hospital both owe Liz a debt of gratitude for she spent much time and effort in the planning stages of both and she served as Secretary of the Board of the nursing home. She was a member of the auxiliary of both institutions. She was a member of the first Board of Directors of the Harrisonville Hospital in 1946. An accomplished organist and soloist with a rich vibrant contralto voice, she used her talents in many ways, not the least of which was in her membership in Trinity Lutheran Church. She has served this church as organist, member of the Altar Guild, Youth Counselor and Bible School worker. Her musical ability has graced many other occasions in Appleton City. Liz was well-known in Missouri Press circles, having served as president of the Northwest Missouri Press Assoc., and was a member of Central Missouri Press Assoc. and the Missouri Women's Press Assoc. While a resident of Harrisonville, she was active in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Music Study Club, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the junior Progress Club. She served in various positions in the Democratic Party, both in Cass and St. Clair Counties. One year after Liz came to Appleton City, on Sept. 4, 1955, she and Walter W. Yoss were marked and they shared a happy and hospitable home until his death in 1974. She enjoyed working with "Shorty" in the store and did so for several years. With this marriage she acquired two stepsons, Howard Dale and James Walter, and she has loved them and their families as her own. Among the many talents duties and accomplishments listed by her family and friends, it is well to note one daughter-in-law termed her an excellent cook and an excellent grandmother several years ago, and she has continued in the path in recent years. A plaque in her home reads, "One of the greatest things a grandmother does is reflect God's beauty to those she loves." In 1976, she was honored with a dinner and presentation of a plaque in commemoration of her many activities and on Aug. 27, 1982, she was honored by her friends and family when she served as Grand Marshal of the Appleton City Fair Parade and the Mayor proclaimed the day to be Elizabeth Yoss Day. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Edgar Shouse Idol and James Daniel Idol, three sisters, Harriet Young, Frances Chamberlain and Margaret Wade, and one daughter-in-law, Ila Yoss. Survivors include Howard Dale Yoss of Peculiar, James Walter Yoss and wife Carolyn of Adrian, five grandchildren, Lori Staffell and husband Paul, Kevin Yoss and wife Karen, Kari Scott and husband Brent, all of Harrisonville, Kip Yoss of Adrain, and Kristi Yoss of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, Travis, Shawn and Kyle Yoss; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Yoss, Agnes Yoss and Ruby Davis; two brothers-in-law, Tom Chamberlain of Bathesda, Md., Art Stevener and wife Nina, many nieces and nephews, and unnumbered friends who will cherish her memory. Services were held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City, on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 1994. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City.

Appleton City MO - Katherine Mellas Yoss, daughter of Angelo and Ernestine Mellas, was born in Hot Springs Arkansas on December 6, 1940. She passed away September 5, 2004 at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri at 63 years of age. Katherine attended elementary and high school in Hot Springs, and it was also where she met and married the man of her dreams. On August 25, 1962 she and Donald Yoss were wed. The first three years of their marriage were spent in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They then moved to Appleton City, Missouri where they made their home and raised their children, Charlie and Kathy. Katherine and Donald owned and operated Yoss Brothers Grocery in Appleton City for 37 years. Katherine's outgoing personality and her ability to make everyone smile was the reason she successfully entered her next business venture. In 1970 she decided to enter the craft and hobby field. She owned her own craft shop and started a manufacturing company know as Mats, Etc. She also worked for an import company known as Malgo. For the past 20 years Katherine worked as a manufacturing sales representative calling on accounts nationwide. She served nine years on the national board of directors for the Hobby & Craft Association, served on numerous committees for the national association. Katherine went coast-to-coast meeting new people, making life-long friends and shopping for something special to bring home to her husband and kids. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Angelo and Ernestine Mellas, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Arlene Yoss. Survivors include her husband Donald of the home; son Charles Yoss and girl friend Teri of Appleton City; daughter Kathy and husband Randy Dixon of Appleton City; brother Charles Mellas and wife Dorothy of Florida; grandchildren Chasity and husband Toby, Angie and husband Jimmy, Brett, Colby, Katie, Colton, Cody, Courtney and husband Jerry, and Jason; great-grandchildren Shelbie, Keegan, Madison, Damien, Bryer, Wyatt and Tyler; nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Katherine not only loved to travel, she also enjoyed special times with her family. One of her favorite activities was fishing at the pits with Donald and then an evening of dinner and gathering with family and friends. She will long be remembered for the wonderful Greek dishes she prepared. Katherine's passion for life, her ability to laugh, her fierce love of her family and friends will keep her in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 9, at Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City with burial in Appleton City Cemetery.

Springfield Leader, Feb 24 1919 - John R. Young, 72 years old, a veteran of the Civil War, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. S. Cross, 643 North Grant. Mr. Young was born in Henry county, living most of his life in Clinton. When he was 16 years old he enlisted in the Union army and served three and a half years in the struggle between the states. A year ago, when his health became impaired, he moved to Springfield and had since lived at the home of his daughter. Mr. Young is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary C. Young, besides one son and two daughters: J. W. Young, in the accounting department of the K. C. & S. C. railroad; Mrs. A. W. Bryan, Oakdale, La., and Mrs. T. S. Cross, Springfield. Two brothers and one sister also survive: George W. Young, Clinton; Hallie Young, Oklahoma; Mrs. S. Smith, Windsor, Mo. Mr. Young was a life-long Republican and a warm admirer of former President Roosevelt. Arrangements for the funeral have not been made pending arrival of relatives from a distance. The Klingner Undertaking company will have charge of the arrangements. H. F. Delozier, live stock agent of the Frisco at Oklahoma City, who is a brother-in-law of Mr. Young, arrived last night to attend the funeral. - The Clinton Eye, Feb 28 1919 - John R. Young died early Monday morning at the home of his daughter, in Springfield, this state. He had been in declining health for the past few years, and the past six months he had been in a very critical condition with heart trouble and complications. He is survived by his wife and three children; two brothers - G. N. Young, of Clinton, and Hallock Young, living in Oklahoma. He was a member of the Baptist church, and was a faithful attendant at church services, doing what he could for the Master's cause. Before going to Springfield he was one of Clinton's highest esteemed citizens, and all hearts were made sad when they heard of his death. The remains were brought to Clinton at noon Wednesday and taken to the Baptist church, where funeral services were conducted, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in Englewood. - The Henry County Democrat, Feb 27 1919 - John R. Young, who for eight or ten years was a resident of Clinton until some eight months ago, died on Monday morning at 5 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. S. Cross, in Springfield, Mo., from a complication of diseases. Deceased was 72 years old, and was a native of Missouri. During the war he served with the union forces. Deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Cross of Springfield, Mrs. A. W. Brown of Oakdale, Okla, and by one son, J. W. Young of Springfield, who is in the accounting department of the K. C. C. & S. railway. The body was brought to Clinton for interment on Wednesday at noon, and services was held at the First Baptist church, interment in Englewood cemetery.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Nov 27 2000 - Archie Eugene Young was born April 22, 1929, to Archie Lester and Sadie Adell Robinson Young in Overland Park, Kansas. When Gene was 11-years-old his father died and his mother died a short time later. Gene went then to live with his grandmother, Sarah (Granny) Robinson, and grew up in the Appleton City area. On September 3, 1949, he was married to Frances Louise Stein in Greeley, Colorado. They made their home in Johnstown, Colorado, for a time, then their work took them to California and later back to Missouri. Gene was a man of many talents. He was a heavy equipment operator, surveyor, shipyard crane operator, and painter for Ford Motor Company. He and Frances owned a fleet of large trucks, and they established Gene's Muffler Shop in Clinton. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Cynthia, Cheryl, Terri and Robert. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Juanita Louise (Patsy) Sapp. He is survived by his wife, Frances, of the home in Clinton; their three daughters, Cynthia and her husband Paul Stubbeman of Calhoun, Cheryl and husband Mark Funk of Clinton, and Terri and her husband Jim Bennett of Clinton, and one son, Joseph Robert Young and his wife Darlene, Cypress, California. Gene is also survived by a sister, Sadie Hendricks, and one half-sister, Pearl Butler of Malta Bend. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, Mark Allen and Christian Stubbeman, Jennifer, Matthew and Sarah Funk, and Ryan, Jeremy and Eric Bennett, and two great-grandchildren, Austin Johnson and MacKenzie Stubbeman. On November 8, 1981, Gene suffered a paralyzing stroke and passed away 19 years later on November 8, 2000, at the Clinton Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Memorial services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel on Friday, November 17. Burial was in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton.

Arline Esther Young, age 92, of Ft. Collins, CO, formerly of Urich, MO, died on January 12, 2012. Arline was born on July 12, 1919 in Wheaton, MN to Frederick C. and Paulina 'Waeffler' Neumann. She grew up around Wheaton, MN and lived in Milwaukee, WI and Yakima, WA. She married Clemont Young on November 29, 1951 in Yakima, WA. They moved to Loveland, CO, where they owned a business in Big Thompson Canyon until October 1981. They moved to Urich, MO to retire. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Creighton, the Ladies Aid, RSVP, Urich Ecumenical Ladies, Urich Senior Citizens and Priscilla Club. She moved to Fort Collins, CO in 2005 where two stepdaughters and grandchildren lived. She lived on her own until a stroke on November 2009 when she had to move to a skilled nursing facility. Arline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 sons-in-law, and 2 grandsons. She is survived by 4 stepdaughters, Shirley Miramonti and husband Paul, Nancy Tuttle, Patty Campbell and husband Tom, and Marjorie Hoff; 2 sisters, Doris Rixe and Lucile Eggers; 1 sister-in-law, Martha Hanigan; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Creighton, on Monday, January 30, 2012. Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Atha Elizabeth Young, daughter of Gertie May (Meadows) and Bert Reuben Bryant, was born May 29, 1906, near Deepwater, and died March 24, 1996, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Clinton at the age of 90 years. Atha joined the LaDue Christian Church while a young girl and later transferred her membership to the Appleton City Christian Church. Atha was united in marriage to Harley Young on September 30, 1938, and they lived in Appleton City until Harley's death in 1979. Atha and Harley enjoyed having their family visit and especially enjoyed having their young nieces and nephews stay with them. After Harley died, Atha moved to the Housing Authority in Deepwater to be nearer her brothers and sisters. She lived there until May 1993 when, due to ill health, she moved to the Meadowbrook Nursing Home. The staff there was very fond of Atha and was very kind to her and to her sister Goldie, brother Reuben, and other family members and friends who visited her frequently. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 27 at Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City. Burial was in Appleton City Cemetery.

He had driven for CFI Trucking Co. in Joplin for 33 years and had achieved over three million miles, accident-free in his career. He was a USN veteran and a member of the Walnut St. Christian Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Young, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Donna L., whom he married July 16, 1963; a son, Kenneth, and daughter, Cindy Young, both of Springfield; five grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Cooper, Clinton; his mother-in-law, Juanita Smith; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, with burial in the City Cemetery in Appleton City.

Clinton MO - Charles Benjamin Young, son of Hiram and Willa Wilson Young, was born August 14, 1901 near Montrose, Missouri. He passed away March 13, 1986 at Chastain's of Clinton, Missouri. On September 1, 1921 he was united in marriage to Vera Elma Dennis. To this union were born two sons: Lloyd Kenneth Young of Clinton; Bennie Ray Young of Springfield and one daughter, Kathleen Cooper of Clinton. Charley farmed and hauled livestock. He liked horses which he trained. At one time he belonged to Montrose Saddle Club and participated in their activities. He worked for Howard Roberts for 12 to 15 years. He helped him with his horses which he thoroughly enjoyed. After his wife's death, he moved to Clinton to be near his children and grandchildren. He was always happy to have them with him. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers; William, Edward and son in law Charlie Cooper. Besides his children he leaves 10 grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren. He also leaves three nieces and one nephew. Services for Mr. Young were held Sunday March 6, 1986 at the Vansant Mills Chapel. Burial was at Hopewell Cemetery at Montrose under the direction of the Vansant Mills Funeral Home.

She passed away February 1, 1993, at the Westwood Nursing Home, Clinton, at the age of 86. She lived most of her life near Urich. She attended Enterprise Grade School and graduated from Urich High School. She attended Central Missouri State Teacher's College at Warrensburg, earned her elementary teaching certificate and taught for a year at Levasy, Missouri. January 2, 1926, she married Harry Young and to this union five children were born. They lived in Kansas City and Sedalia before moving to a farm near Urich in 1932. She always took part in her children's school activities. She was on the school board at Enterprise School, north of Urich, in the 1940s and helped set up the first hot lunch program there. She worked as a garment factory seamstress in Garden City and Clinton from 1950 until 1969, when she retired. She was a leader in organizing the Garment Workers Union in Garden City. Due to Harry's health, they moved into Urich in 1961. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1971. She was active in the B-Square Extension Club for many years and worked with the young people in various 4-H projects for nearly 50 years, even after her children were grown. She was a member of the Priscilla Club, the Urich Reading Club and the C.W.F. She was a life long member of the Urich Christian Church. She served on the church board, taught a class and was pianist for many years. Many long time friends were made through the active life she led. She is survived by three daughters, Maude Ann Maynard, Derby, Kansas, Betty Lee Doll, Urich, and Elaine Turner, Harrisonville; one son Melvin Young, Clinton; three son-in-laws, one daughter-in-law; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother Harold Spry of Urich; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry and a two-year-old son Benny. Funeral services were Thursday, February 4, 1993, at the Urich Christian Church. Burial was in Urich Cemetery.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 2, at the Consalus-Bradley Chapel. He was born January 14, 1960, at Appleton City, son of Richard F. and Mary Frances Burkhart Young. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and Clinton High School, graduating in 1978. Don grew up on Clinton with backyard baseball, fishing at the creek, Boy Scouts and swimming at the Artesian Park Swimming pool among his favorite pastimes. In high school, Don discovered volleyball and found a talent and joy in the sport that stayed with him throughout life. He formed many lifelong friendships through volleyball, especially with the Polar Bears team, which traveled to tournaments around the country. At age 42, he continued to play with a volleyball team in Blue Springs. Don was an avid tennis player and a devoted soccer fan. He shared his creative side through design and carpentry for his mother's flower garden and the cupola he created for her potting shed. In his professional life, Don was a manager for Steinmart. He enjoyed organizing, building a strong team and meeting the needs of all customers. He brought his exuberant laugh and outgoing personality to work, finding success and satisfaction in his chosen career. The impact that don made on Steinmart was evident in the large number of managers and employees who attended his memorial service. His work ethic began in his early jobs in Clinton at Dairy Queen, Coaches Corner and Clearfield Cheese. Don was devoted to his young son, Drew, and to his family. He lived in the Kansas City area for many years, but was a frequent visitor to Clinton. He especially enjoyed the Olde Glory Days in the All-American City. Family vacations in Clinton always revolved around "Gooseberry Hill" at the Young house, the backyard oasis complete with koi pond. Even at Christmas, Don would fire up the chimena and enjoy the snow-covered yard. Above all, it is his lust for life that will be remembered. He was always ready with a joke or a story to get everyone laughing. She was born September 19, 1909, in Camden County, Mo., the daughter of George Lee Houseworth and Catherine Elizabeth (Nichols) Houseworth. On December 24, 1930, in Leavenworth, Ks., she married Irvin Leo "Shorty" Young and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1994. In addition to working as a waitress, Mrs. Young worked at Wilson's Dairy Queen from 1952 to 1974. She loved to cook and was an accomplished seamstress. Using her gift for sewing, she made clothes for her children. She was a good mom, supporting Nona and Dale in their activities growing up and into their adult lives as she enjoyed being a grandmother. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church, Windsor, and the former Sewing Club of Windsor. Survivors include a son, Dale and his wife Doodles, Basehor, Ks.; a daughter, Nona Greenlee, Kansas City, Mo.; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a stepdaughter, Fran McConnell, state of Indiana; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bob Greenlee. Outliving all her siblings, she was also preceded in death by a sister and 5 brothers. Clinton MO - Mrs. Bettie Young Dies At Age Of 96 - The last sleep came gently to Mrs. Bettie Young, 801 East Jefferson street, Sunday evening at 9:15. It was a welcome oblivion, for her tired little body had weathered the sea of life for 96 years, two months, and three days. But to her last morning in life, she was smiling and gay, brave as she had been through life. Elizabeth Guinn was born October 15, 1836, in Lincoln county. She was one of 14 children. When 16 years old, she moved with her parents to a small farm near Leesville. The ground was cleared, a log cabin built. the young Elizabeth grew to girlhood with much charm. There were no educational advantages in the way of fine schools and colleges, but the clean, and wholesome education that Nature could give, the beauty instilled into her heart that remained through all the years of her life. She was well qualified to become the wife of a good man, William Young, in 1860. Theirs was a life complete with contentment, work, and blessed with children. Mr. Young had taken his bride to a cleared 40 acre farm, in the Leesville community. There were nine children to be fed, clothed and sent to school, so it was the small mother's duty to see that they had these. There was cotton to be raised and cared for in the field. Mrs. Young swung the swingle, that knocked the flax into fineness, then run the flax through the hackle and combed it. All the linens, sheets, etc., were made by her hands, and to Nature she turned again for bright bits of color to dye the materials. The home was a hallowed place, governed by the indomitable spirit of the mother love. During the civil War, Mr. Young served his country and his bride worked and waited and came through the distressing period undaunted. About 26 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Young moved to 117 West Tebo street, where Mr. Young passed away ten years ago. The children are grown, married, and away, most of them. Seven live, and it has been the custom for Mrs. Young to have a birthday gathering each year. One widowed daughter, Mrs. Rachel Hammond, has been a tender attendant of her mother, for four years, never leaving her, ministering to her every want. Brief funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday afternoon, then the body was taken to Tebo church, where she had often gone to worship the One who had guided her in the straight path so long. Interment was in the cemetery nearby. Deceased leaves about 183 living descendants, which include the seven children, 85 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. The children are: Mesdames Sarah Jane Reynolds, Susie Pierce, and Rachel Hammond, Clinton; Mrs. Anna Martin, Colchester, Ill.; John Young, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Ida Adkins, Plattsmouth, Nebr.; Mrs. Nora McDaniel, Kansas City.

Elizabeth worked as a telephone operator in the early years of their marriage until the birth of their first child. She was a lifelong member of the Clinton Church of Christ. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Elvin Spears, Buddy Spears, Buster Spears and Asa Spears; two sisters, Mildred Herrmann and Lois Earp. She is survived by daughters, Sandra and husband Gary Doll of Kansas City, Marsha and husband Donald Cook, Kathy Roos, and son Ronald and wife Leslie Young, all of Clinton, and six grandchildren; also sisters, Nina Willett and husband James, Saskatchewan, Canada, Dora Carroll and husband Thomas of Appleton City. Clinton, MO - George Young died at his home on East Franklin street at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, following a long illness with kidney trouble. George N. Young was born December 23, 1847, in the Oakland neighborhood about seven miles south of Windsor. He was the son of early pioneers who settled in this county in the late twenties. Mr. Young and Miranda C. Smith of Stone County were married September 19, 1871. The marriage ceremony was performed on the banks of the Osage at Osceola as the bride was returning to her home in Stone County, accompanied by her grandfather, after a visit in Henry County. Mr. and Mrs. Young made their home in Stone County three months, then returned to Henry County to make their home. Mr. Young was a farmer for many years, one of the best in his part of the county. About 40 years ago the Youngs moved to Clinton and Mr. Young was engaged in the feed business with a store on the square several years. Later he had a grocery store on East Franklin street which he operated many years until failing health caused his retirement from active business. He was known as a man of his word, never failing in honesty, always to be trusted and depended upon. He regularly attended the Baptist Church. As long as health permitted, he backed every worthwhile community enterprise and used his influence to make it a success. His neighbors and the community as a whole admired and respected him for his integrity and for his high ideals. Surviving Mr. Young are his wife and four children, Fred Young and Mrs. Bessie Woodrome of Kansas City; Chas. Young of Chicago; Miss Bertha Young of Los Angeles. There are also 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is the last of his brothers and sisters to leave this world. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Clinton. Burial will be in Englewood.

Mr. Young was born January 6, 1904, near Knob Noster, the eldest son of John William Young and Margaret Lavina Wharton Young. A sister Jessamine Elizabeth Young Kirkpatrick, and brother Jack Wharton Young, preceded him in death. Following graduation from Knob Noster High School, he earned a BS degree in Education, Accounting from Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg, with graduate study at University of California, Los Angeles, and Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts. He taught commercial subjects and scored for the athletic department games at Warrensburg High School for 26 years and several summer sessions taught at CMSC, aslo was bookkeeper at Jim Callaway's International Harvester Agency in Warrensburg. During the summers of WWII he worked at Pratt-Whitney Air Craft in Kansas City. After retiring from teaching he did accountint for Fireproof, a concrete block manufacturer, in Columbus, Ohio. Later he fully retired to make his home in Cinton. A son of a farming family he had a love for Mother Earth which showed up in his yard and garden. The past two years he resided in Keystone Heights, Florida. He married Adele Elizabeth Setzler of Kansas City in 1929. Following her death in 1954, he married Willie Reaves Faith of Calhoun in 1956. She died July 26, 1997. As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg, he served on the Board of Deacons and as treasurer, later transferring his membership to the Clinton First Presbyterian Church. Survivors are his daughter Barbara Y. Smith-Goetzman; three granddaughters, Janice Goetzman, Leslie Breedlove and Amy Starling, and seven great-grandchildren, all of Keystone Heights, Florida; sister-in-law Doris Jinks Young of Knob Noster; nephews Don Kirkpatrick, Lee's Summit, Philip Young of Springfield, Stephen Young, Houston, Texas, Tim Young, Knob Noster, and Jerry Wiley, Calhoun; niece Jean Young Miller, Columbia, and 14 great- and great-great-nephews and nieces. He was employed for many years as a wholesale manager and buyer for Schnucks Distributing Company, St. Louis. In 1978 he retired to Warsaw. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Sedalia. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister and a son, Steve, who died November 3, 1979. James grew up in Deepwater where he attended Deepwater schools, completing the eighth grade. At the age of 18 he went to work for the dickey Tile Factory where he worked for five years. On June 21, 1941, he was united in marriage to Gladys Irene Vandiver in Clinton. After their marriage, they lived in Clinton, moving to Independence in 1964. James was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for the MKT Railroad for 16 1/2 years, before retiring in 1984. When he was able, James loved to fish, especially with his wife, kids and grand kids. And you can be sure that James always caught the biggest fish. He was also a hunter. Quail hunting with his son and grandson was on the top of his hunting list. James was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Windsor, Scottish Rites and Ararat Shriners of Kansas City. He was also a member of the UAW 92. James is survived by his wife Gladys of the home; son James Young Jr. and wife Linda, Blue Springs; daughter Judith Hudson and husband Gary, Kayenta, Arizona; daughter Sharon Church and husband Dale, Clinton; sisters Cleo Lutes and husband of Blue Springs and Peggy Smith and husband of Independence. James has six living grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents Clay and Fannie Young; two brothers, Richard Young and Gene Young; a sister Mary Swearingin, and two grandsons, James Richard Young and Donnie Dean Hudson. Funeral services were December 31 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services were at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton.

On June 17, 1995 Jimmy and Tammy Armer were united in marriage in Harrison, Arkansas. To this union a son was born. Jimmy was the FFA advisor at Lakeland Schools and dedicated his life to his kids with the Agriculture Department. He graduated from Central Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in 1997 and received a master's degree in 2006. Jimmy was a loving father and on. His pride and joy was his son Justin. They enjoyed riding four-wheelers together and were huge Dale Earnhart Jr. fans. Jimmy was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his parents, Garry and Janice Young, Fairport; one son Justin Young, Lowry City; mother of his son, Tammy Young; two brothers, Richard Young (Kristy), Maysville, and Garry Young Jr., Maysville; one niece Karley Young, and one nephew Tristin Young of Maysville. Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 7, at Amity Cemetery, Amity.

Clinton MO - John Ficklin Young, son of Sinnett Madison and Sallie Ficklin Young was born near King City, MO, June 11, 1890. He died Dec 25, 1942. In 1915 he moved with his parents to the Mt. Carmel community, west of Clinton. On 20 Dec 1920 he was married to Miss Esther Schmidli. To this union were born three sons, John William, Richard Ficklin, and Robert Louis; and a daughter, Helen Elizabeth. The Young family has lived in the following communities: Freedom, Shawnee Mound and Comer; where John always proved himself a good neighbor and prominent citizen. Interment was at Englewood Cemetery.

Clinton MO - Lawrence P. Young was born in Athens county, Ohio, on the 16th of August 1843. His allotment of time upon this earth was far beyond the standard of "three score years and ten" for he reached the unusual age of 87 years, four months and eighteen days. When he was but three years of age his parents moved to the state of Illinois, where he grew to manhood. At the first call for volunteers for the Civil War he enlisted on the 22 of August, 1860, becoming a member of the 117th Volunteer Infantry. Some time after his enlistment he became the bodyguard of Col. A. J. Smith which position he did not relinquish to the close of the war. He was with Sherman on his historic march to the sea and took part in all the battles that were fought by this army, but he was never unfortunate as to receive even a wound. He received his honorable discharge in August 1865 but did not get to come home until April the next spring. While still in Illinois, Mrs. Young was married to Miss Martha Fifer. This union was blessed with three children, namely Mrs. Ada Smith, now deceased; Mrs. Charles Williams, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Wm. Kemper of Clinton, Mo. In 1880 Mrs. Young was called from her husband's side and was laid to rest at the Corinth Baptist Church. On the twelfth of November 1885, Brother Young was united in holy wedlock to Miss Anna Eli from Henry county, Mo. Four children came to bless this home, one of whom, Miss Edna, died in 1903 at the age of fifteen. The following three survive; Mrs. Ethel Haynes, Garland; Harry Young, Clinton, and Montie Young, Garland. For 38 years Mr. and Mrs. Young lived on the same farm near Garland, but when Mr. Young's health became so poorly that they felt impelled to move to Clinton where they lived for 11 years. The infirmities of old age finally became too great so he answered the roll call from on high at 9:30 on the morning of January 6th. Besides his beloved wife and the children named above, he leaves to mourn his departure 14 grandchildren; one brother in Mena, Kans.; two sons-in-law, Wm. Kemper, Clinton, and Earl Haynes of Garland; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Leona Young and Mrs. Bessie Young; also many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the First M. E. church Wednesday afternoon.

Burial will be in Englewood. Mr. Young was a brother of the late Edna Groff of Clinton.

He was united in marriage to Bessie Bell Watson, Feb. 12, 1908. To this union three children were born, Hugh Wilford, who preceded him in death at the age of 10 years; Ora Maye (Mrs. Harry Long) of Lowry City, Mo., and Kenneth of Kansas City, Mo. This wife and mother passed away Nov. 14, 1931. He was united in marriage to Lillie McConnell Oct. 20, 1932. No children were born to this union but he showered his love and affection on his step children, Wilma, Edna, and Russell. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, his daughter and her husband (Ora Maye and Harry). His son and wife (Kenneth and Dorothy). Two grandchildren, Virginia Lee Flippin and Kenneth, Jr.; a half brother, James Elsey, Vinita, Ok. The above mentioned step-children; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Graham (Wilma); Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hutton (Edna); Mr. and Mrs. Russell McConnell; 14 step grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He confessed in his last weeks of illness to the Rev. Gene Robbins that all was clear between him and his Lord. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 1960 at the Church of God (Holiness). Interment was in the cemetery at Altona, Mo., under the direction of the Lee-Janssens Funeral Home.

She was born to Frank and Mable Munyer in Rugby, North Dakota, September 16, 1922. On August 18, 1954, she married Herbert Young at Humansville, making their home in Clinton. She started her own line of cosmetics in the early 1950s called Lily Ann Cosmetics, successfully promoting, marketing and selling her products throughout the Midwest. In 1956 she opened a beauty shop in Wichita, Kansas, where she worked until moving to Missouri in 1965. She was a member of Calvary Heights Baptist Church, St. Louis. She and her family moved to Warsaw in 1979 where she owned and operated several businesses before retiring in 1985. They moved back to Clinton in October 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; her husband Herb, and a son Steve. She is survived by two daughters, Diana Johnson and her husband Lane, Kim Mitchell and her husband Jim, all of Clinton; two grandchildren, Steve Hensley, Clinton and Krystal Bettis and her husband Roland, LeClaire, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Kody Rhodes and Karley Collier, LeClair, Iowa; three sisters, Beth Rich, Citrus Heights, California, Millie Jackson, Everett, Washington, Rose Knutzen, Ketchikan, Alaska; three brothers, Howard Munyer, Larry Munyer and Bart Munyer, all of Sacramento, California, as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He died on November 16, 1997, at his home in Clinton. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Spears on December 14, 1946 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in December 1996. To this union were born four children, Sandra Doll, Marsha Cook, Kathy Roos and Ronald Young. They lived most of their married life in Clinton. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of the home, and daughters, Sandra and husband, Gary Doll, of Kansas City, Marsha and husband, Donald Cook, Kathy Roos, and son, Ronald and wife, Leslie Young, all of Clinton; also six grandchildren, Angela Hammond, Kevin Doll, Nicholas Roos, Melissa Doll, Amy Tatom and Zachary Cook; sister, Kathleen Cooper of Clinton, and brother, Bennie and wife, Donna Young of Springfield; also several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Elma Young, and a brother-in-law, Charles Cooper. Angela Hammond, his oldest granddaughter, was abducted from Clinton on April 4, 1991, and as of this date she is still missing. He was a truck driver all of his life and retired from CFI of Joplin after 27 years. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Thursday, November 20. Burial was in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton.

He preceded her in death June 23, 1984. She worked as a seamstress for 20 years during the 1960s and 1970s at Holden Manufacturing Company in Holden. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Odessa, and of the Holden VFW Auxiliary 5844, Holden. Clinton MO - Oliver Perry Young died Sunday, November 28, at 11:15 a.m. with inflammation of the bowels at the Chas. Stultz farm where he was caretaker. He was born in Wilkesbarrie, Penn., December 13, 1867. At the age of 12 he entered the hard coal mines of Pennsylvania. Later he entered railroad work as a brakeman at about 16 years of age and worked his way up until he became a passenger conductor. He always had a desire to become an engineer, so took up firing and worked at that until he was given an engine to run. He ran the Black Diamond from Buffalo to New York on the LeHigh Valley road until an accident occurred and he was sent to a hospital. Becoming incapacitated he was unable to continue railroad work. He put four children, two boys and two girls, William, John, Louise and Gladys, through Princeton University. He lost his wife, one son and one daughter within ten weeks in 1918 by flu. One daughter, Louise, survives him. He was a member of the Baptist church and led a clean life. He came west about 1929 and worked for Standard Oil in Missouri and Kansas. He had been in this vicinity since May. Funeral services were held from the Housey Funeral Home, Sunday, December 12. Interment in the Calhoun Cemetery.

He was born February 5, 1905, in Henry County, the son of John Henry Young and Maud (Patterson) Young. On May 4, 1929, in Windsor, he married Dollie C. Cochran, who preceded him in death June 3, 1967. Mr. Young was a maintenance man for the Henry County Township for many years before his retirement in 1968. Survivors include a son, Bob Young, Sedalia; two daughters, Ruby Adams, Phoenix, Arizona, and Mary Fleming, Ft. Worth, Texas; eight-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, a son and two granddaughters. Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Orvell A. Young Jr., the son of Orvell and Verree (Zimmerman) Young, was born January 28, 1918 in Appleton City. He departed this life at his home in Appleton City on Sept. 27, 1993 at the age of 75 years. Orvell attended grade school at Brush College and graduated from Appleton City High School in 1936. He started work as a carpenter, working with his uncle in 1936 and continued working until the age of 60. On May 1, 1938, he was united in marriage with Pearl Morgan, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. Orvell spent many weekends hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed very much. He built many homes in Appleton City and Montrose, and made many friends along the way. Orvell served his country in the Army during World War II. He was with the 254th Engineers, building the first bridge across the Rhine River. He received five bronze stars, four Campaign Medals, and the Presidential Citation. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Appleton City. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Sandra Crockett, and one sister, who passed away at the age of one year. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Pearl of the home; one daughter Kathy Young of Australia; one granddaughter Heather Crockett of Topeka, Ks.; two sisters-in-law, cousins and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City. Burial was in Appleton City Cemetery.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Reta Opal Young was born October 15, 1900, in St. Clair County, Missouri to Francis and Priscilla Crawford. She passed away July 9, 1991, at Westwood Home in Clinton. On November 5, 1919, she was married to her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Young. They were blessed with one daughter Bernice. In the late 1920s, they moved from St. Clair County to Kansas City where Joe began working for the Muehlebach Hotel. Opal's work career consisted of working for less than three years at Montgomery Ward in the 20's, but her life's work consisted of doing whatever was necessary to keep her family well-fed and comfortable and keeping an immaculate house. She took great pride in being the provider at home. During the depression, in order for the family to keep their house, they lived in two rooms and rented the rest of the house to another family. During World War II, Opal supported her country's cause by sharing in a victory garden and tirelessly corresponding with several young soldiers. Joe and Opal were very active members of the Gregory Blvd. Methodist Church and did much volunteer work while they were there. She was a life member of WSCS. Opal's life was never the same after Joe passed away in April of 1965, just one month before he was to retire. They had purchased a home in Clinton for retirement, so Opal followed through with their plans and moved to Clinton to live near her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family certainly appreciated the nearness of "Mummy Short". She was an excellent quilter and her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren treasure many of her works of love. After moving to Clinton, Opal moved her membership to the Clinton United Methodist Church. In the year and a half before she entered the nursing home, she was lovingly cared for by Ken and Delores Kehm. They were like a second family to her and called her "Grandma". All of the Kehm family were so good and kind to Opal and she loved them and appreciated their care even though she couldn't tell them. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her daughter, Bernice Thornton, two grandsons and their wives, Terry and Carolyn Thornton and Mark and Patrice Thornton, all of Clinton, one great-grandson and his wife Tim and Donna Thornton of Lee's Summit, Missouri, one great-granddaughter Natalie Thornton of Bourbon, Missouri, and a second great-grandson Matthew Thornton of Clinton. A sister Vera Cole of Raytown, Missouri also survives. "Auntie O" will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Opal was not only devoted to her family, but she was also devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She followed her Lord in baptism in 1917. This was a unique experience in that her father, her brother, two of her sisters and Joe were all baptized with her. She was a fine Christian example who gave her time and resources in support of Christian work. She was a faithful Bible reader and her family cherishes her well-worn Bibles. Many friends as well as family took comfort in knowing that Opal was praying in their behalf. Although she will be missed by those she left behind, they are assured that Heaven has a special crown for their loved one, Opal Young. Funeral services were held July 11, 1991 at the Sickman & Dunning Chapel. Graveside services were conducted at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.

Richard Ficklin Young, 86, of Clinton, Missouri, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011 following a battle with cancer. Known as "Dick" all his life, he was the second of four children born to John Ficklin Young and Esther (Schmidli) Young. His early years were spent in rural Henry County where his family engaged in farming. Dick graduated from Shawnee Mound High School where he fondly remembered playing on the basketball team and riding in the back of a pickup truck with the teachers and coaches, to the basketball games. Perhaps this started his lifelong love of sports. Dick was a loyal follower of the Chiefs and the Royals. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 in Korea and the Philippines. After the war, he worked in Kansas City for a short time before returning to Clinton. In 1950 he began his career at Clearfield Cheese Company where he worked for almost forty years. Dick married Mary Frances Burkhart of Montrose, Missouri. They were blessed with four sons and three daughters. His main interests were family activities, watching sports, and keeping the yard in shape. He was a "meat and potatoes" man with a sweet tooth and a smile for anyone he met. His outgoing personality made him a friend to many. He looked forward to the visits of his children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. In addition to his wife Mary Frances, surviving are three sons, Larry Young of San Antonio, Texas, Mike Young and his wife Lisa of Olathe, Kansas, and Tim Young of Los Angeles, California; three daughters, Fran Young of Los Angeles, California, Kathy Lozano of San Antonio, Texas, and Sandra Young of Clinton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jose Lozano, Stephanie Lozano, Alexis Young, Alex Young, Drew Young, and Nicholas Young; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Don Young in 2002, two brothers, Bill Young and Bob Young; and a sister, Helen Kirchhoff. Memorial services will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Robert M. Young Sr. was born September 26, 1934, in Raytown, the son of George Paul Young and Ethel Lula Crider Young. He died Saturday, January 7, 1995, at St. Anthony's Hospital, Denver, Colorado, at the age of 60. He attended four different high schools, the last one being Eugene High. In 1951, he began working for the rock Island Railroad with his dad on the section. In 1954, he was united in marriage to Patty Ruth Kelsay. In 1955, his first child was born, Kathryn Jeanine. In 1966, his second child, Robert M. Young Jr. was born. Mr. Young worked as a depot agent from 1956 to 1959 when he became a dispatcher, breaking in at the Kansas City office. He continued working for the Rock Island until 1980, when they declared bankruptcy. He lived in El Reno, Oklahoma, for many years and he was manager at Sunset Bowl until 1984 when he returned to the railroad profession with Southern Pacific. He lived in Overland Park, Kansas, then moved to Houston, Texas, in 1988 and Denver, Colorado, in August of 1994. His hobbies included golf, bowling, softball, basketball and fishing. He was a member of Southern Heights Baptist Church in El Reno, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife Patty Ruth of the home; one son Robert M. Young Jr., Overland Park, Kansas; one sister Betty Crane; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, January 12, 1995, at the Consalus Chapel in Chilhowee. Burial was in Chilhowee Cemetery.

She had lived in Fort Worth, Texas, since 1948. Her husband, Lynn, predeceased her in 1992. She was a member of the Eastern Hills United Methodist Church and active in the WMU. She was a volunteer for St. Joseph's Hospice. She was a retired vice president of the First Bank of Fort Worth and a member of the National Women in Banking. Burial was in Moore Memorial Gardens in Fort Worth, Texas. Survivors include two sons, Roger and Reagan of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter Regina of Oklahoma City, Ok.; her mother Rose Lilleston; two brothers, George and Bob; three sisters, Bonnie Cairns, Sheila Lilleston and Rosemary Simone. Clinton MO - S. M. Young died at the home of his son John Young, north of Clinton, February 17, 1939. He had been in failing health some time and all that could be was done by his loved ones to smooth his pathway and lighten the burdens of his declining years. Sinnett Madison Young was born near Owingsville, Ky., February 13, 1854. In 1885 he came to King City, Mo., where he married Miss Sallie Ficklin, February 17, 1887, establishing their home near King City. To this union six children were born, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are: Joe Dawson Young, Montrose; John Ficklin Young, Clinton; Mrs. Orrin Gaines, King City; Lewis Madison Young, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Edwin Lawler, Brownington. Mr. and Mrs. Young lived near King City until 1915, then came to Henry County where he had since resided. He was admired and respected for his farming ability and esteemed for his neighborliness in the vicinities where they had made their home. Since the death of his wife February 28, 1930, Mr. Young had spent most of his time with his children in whose homes his visits were anticipated with much pleasure. When 18 years old Mr. Young gave his life to Christ and joined the Christian Church where he remained a faithful member until death, truly consecrating his life to the Master. Through such guidance, he could wisely counsel his children to whom he was a devoted and loving father and reared them to be as fine citizens as he; constantly alert for opportunities to help those in need and always foremost in movements for community betterment. Mr. Young possessed an irreproachable integrity for he and perfect honesty toward all; as he contracted, so he did. Besides his children, Mr. Young is survived by 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis Young of Owingsville, Ky., and Lee Young, Mt. Sterling, Ky. Funeral services were conducted at the Clinton Christian Church. Burial was at Englewood.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Walter A. Young Jr., 68, Deepwater, passed away at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton on May 7, 1993, after a lengthy illness. Jr. was born April 17, 1925, at Finey to Walter A. Young and Elsie C. Holland. He moved to Deepwater with his family at a young age, where he attended school until he was drafted. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. His lifetime occupation was a carpenter and he was a member of Carpenters Union Local 41 until 1970. He served as Henry County Deputy Sheriff and Deepwater City Marshal until 1930 when he retired due to failing health. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Deepwater Boat Ramp Organization. On June 8, 1966, he was married to Lawanna Cantrell (Lou), of the home, who survives him. He is also survived by his six children, Ronald Joe Young of Hollister, Gary Eugene Young of Kansas City, John Anderson Young of Clinton, Dena Jane Young of Clinton, Susan Diane Witherspoon of Deepwater, Gerald Allen "Pete" Young of Lowry City and a stepson David Edgar Garcia of Deepwater. Other survivors include four sisters, Martha Bunch of Red Lodge, Montana, Mildred Cook of Kansas City, Doris Wittig of Deepwater and Charlotte Lesmeister of Kansas City; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Ralph Young, and a grandson John Anderson Young Jr. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel Monday, May 10, 1993. Burial was held at the Deepwater Cemetery, Deepwater.

Clinton, MO - William Young passed away Thursday evening, at 10 p.m. He was a well known resident of Henry county, Mo., having lived in our city about 13 years. He was born Nov. 25, 1833, at the time of his death he was 88 years, 2 months and 1 day old. In the year of 1860 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Guinn, of Henry county. They toiled together in unity, weaving and making their own clothes and supporting their little family. Regardless of all the drawbacks, in sickness, accidents, the work was done. They were blessed with eleven children. They were also blessed with seventy-two grand children, raised five grandchildren, sixty-seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Young also took care of her sister for three years, Polly Boyles. Where is the young man today or the young woman that would undertake such a task with this great success. They were always ready helpers in time of need. Mr. Young was a faithful Union soldier of the Civil War.

His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Argie Lorene Stoddard Young, and four children, William E. Mrs. Young was born October 19, 1898, in Calhoun, Henry County. She was the daughter and first child of Richard Theodore and Martha Elizabeth Sellers Faith. She held a BS degree in education-mathematics from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and taught in high schools in Rich Hill and Warrensburg, Columbus, Ohio, and summer sessions at CMSU, Warrensburg. On June 10, 1956, she was married to George W. Young. She lived in Clinton 26 years following teaching retirement from Columbus, Ohio. The past year she had lived in Keystone Heights, Florida. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, where she served as treasurer and was active in women's groups, also a member of DAR and enjoyed bridge clubs. She is survived by her husband George; one daughter Barbara Y. Smith-Goetzman; three granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren, all of Keystone Heights, Florida; a nephew Jerry Wiley and wife Joanne, Calhoun; cousin Anna May Welsh, Clinton; five great and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Edith P. Carter and Margery F. Wiley-Hudson; one brother Clyde Faith, and a niece Cathy carter. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 31, at Consalus Chapel, Clinton. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Warrensburg.

Services were held Monday, August 1, 2011, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. A graveside service and burial were at Mullen Cemetery, Urich. Broadway Mortuary, Wichita, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements. Wilma was born November 25, 1926, to Ava Berkebile and Anna M. (Doll) Berkebile in Urich. She graduated from high school at Pacific Grove, California, in 1944. She married Clarence Ellery Young on September 11, 1948, in Butler. To this union of 21 years, two daughters and a son were born. As a young minister's wife, she was active in all phases of church ministry, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, missions work and music. Upon moving to Lafayette, Louisiana, she and Ellery were active in student work. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Wichita. As a young person, she became a Christian in Butler and in her journey through life, wherever the family lived, she became a member of a local Southern Baptist Church and was actively involved in the church. She not only professed Christ, but demonstrated her faith by her walk in life. She enjoyed attending Bible studies and fellowship of her church family. She attended the University of Missouri and graduated from Southwestern University, now called the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, with a Bachelor of Science and Education degree. She taught school for 33 1/2 years in Missouri. Kansas and Louisiana. She retired from the Lafayette School District, Lafayette, Louisiana, in 1989. In retirement she made her home with her daughter, Clarann in Wichita, assisting with care of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her son Ava Brownell Young; her grandson Richard E. Young; her brother Ava Dean Berkebile, and twin sisters, Helen Adams and Ellen Martin. Survivors include two daughters, Clarann L. Young of Wichita and Freida F. Betz and husband Paul, Honduras; her brother Levon Berkebile and wife Peggy, Butler, and three grandchildren, Jonathon of Wilmington, North Carolina, Carol Young of Wichita, Kansas, and Teather Young of Oregon; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church of Wichita, Kansas.

Clinton MO - Elmer Charles Yount was born October 22, 1892, at Calhoun and departed this life March 1, 1935, at Bothwell hospital in Sedalia, at 7:45 p.m. being 42 years, 4 months and 5 days of age. He was critically injured the afternoon of February 27 in an accident at the Bowen coal mine. He was at once taken to the hospital where every effort that loving hands and medical aid could do, was given. But due to the injury to the lungs, it was impossible to save him. Elmer was the youngest son of Samuel and Martha Yount, who preceded him in death several years ago. He was married February 18, 1922, to Miss Virgie Wiggins, who survives him, as do two sisters and six brothers: Mrs. Anna Housey of Windsor, Miss Grace Yount of Marshall, Loyd Yount of Calhoun, Edd, John, Jim, Arch and Walter Yount of Pahuska, Oklahoma. In his childhood days, he was a faithful attendant at church and Sunday School, uniting with the church when about seventeen years old. Until his death, he was a faithful supporter of the church. He counted his friends by his acquaintances, and was loved by young and old alike as he was a true friend to all. Funeral services were conducted from the Calhoun Methodist Church on Sunday.

She was also a cook at Windsor`s Resthaven Nursing Home, worked at the Windsor Review as a paper inserter and was a home health care provider for several area residents. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Windsor. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William "Keith" Yount and Carolyn Yount, Windsor; three granddaughters; two great grandsons; one brother, Kenneth Cully, Leeton, Mo.; two sisters, Carol Wisdom, Clinton and Lula Richardson, Manchester, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Monday at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial was in the Laurel Oaks Cemetery, Windsor, Mo.

She married Robert M. Yount on August 26, 1942 at Calhoun. She was a school teacher in the Henry County area, worked for the Calhoun Water Department and cared for the Calhoun Cemetery. She was a member of the Drakes Chapel United Methodist Church. Her husband and parents preceded her in death. A brother-in-law, Bill Yount, Harrisonville; a nephew, Pat Yount, Kansas City; cousin, Irene Wharton, Calhoun; plus numerous cousins survive her. Funeral services were held May 2 at Consalus-Bradley Chapel. Burial was in Calhoun Cemetery.

Clinton MO - A Veteran School Teacher Passes - Henry Clay Young was born in Attica, Ind., February 23, 1838, died at six o'clock Wednesday evening, December 12, 1928, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul McElwee, of Chilhowee, MO., with whom he had made his home the past four years. He had reached the age of 90 years, 9 months and 19 days. He was united in marriage to Caroline Elizabeth Kinyon, of Okawville, Ill., September 9, 1862. To this union were born twelve children, seven of whom survive - D. N. Yount, Sedalia; Mrs. Pete Shields, Chilhowee; W. K. Yount, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. John Harding, Warrensburg; H. C. Yount, Jr., and Mrs. Paul McElwee, both of Chilhowee, and Mrs. Lee Harris, Lawrence, Kans. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death nine years. When a young boy, Mr. Yount with his parents moved to Iowa, where he received his early education in the public schools, later attending Cornell College at Mt. Vernon. He was also a medical student at Ann Arbor, Mich. He chose for his life work the profession of teaching. At the age of 20, he began teaching in southern Illinois, where he was principal of the Okawville school for thirteen years. In 1880, Mr. Yount, with his family moved to Henry county, Mo. He taught schools in various parts of the county for eighteen years. In the fall of 1898, he moved to Chilhowee, Mo., where he was principal of the school for two years. He loved his profession and taught his last school in 1912, at the age of 74 years. At that time, it was said he had taught the most terms of any teacher in the states. He was a member of the M. E. church and especially enjoyed activities in the Sunday School until the frailties of old age came upon him. He was a steadfast believer in the promises of the Saviour and passed out into the Great Beyond peacefully and assuredly. Mr. Yount had been gradually failing in health for some time, quite perceptibly the past few weeks but not until Sunday evening, December 9th, was it necessary for him to retire early to his bed, where he remained until the end. Wednesday evening - those three days constituting the longest period of confinement to bed during his entire long life. Funeral services were conducted at the home Friday morning. The remains were laid to rest by the side of his companion in the Chilhowee cemetery.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Jan 11 2001 - Robert Myrl Yount, 80, Calhoun, died December 31, 2000, at the Golden Valley Hospital, Clinton. Mr. Yount was born April 8, 1920, on a farm west of Calhoun, the son of Lloyd E. and Pearl Chapman Yount. He married Emogene King on August 26, 1942. Robert became a member of the Drakes Chapel Methodist Church at an early age and remained faithful until his death. He spent his life in and around Calhoun, where he was a farmer and a rural letter carrier for 33 years in the Calhoun and Clinton post offices. He retired in 1985. During World War II he served in the European Theater. Mr. Yount was a member of the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers and a charter member of the Calhoun American Legion Post #566. He served as treasurer to the city of Calhoun for 20 years and a member of the Calhoun Cemetery Board since 1965. He is survived by his wife of the home; one brother, William L. Yount, Harrisonville; one nephew, Patrick Yount, Kansas City and many friends. Funeral services were held January 2 at the Consalus Chapel, Clinton. Burial was in Calhoun Cemetery.

YOUSE, Johnnie William

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Jan 7 2009 - Johnnie William Youse, 76, died on Jan. 5, 2009, at Golden LivingCenter-Westwood in Clinton after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born on June 5, 1932, to John W. Youse and Sallie (Hoard) Youse. Johnnie lived on the family farm in Green Ridge with his parents, sister Verna Marie Youse, and brother Walter Youse. After graduating from Green Ridge High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War conflict. Johnnie rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge in September 1954. Johnnie was a member of the American Legion Pot 305 in Cole Camp for 46 years. Additionally, in August 2003, John received the Korean Service Medal-One Half Century Tribute for Veterans of the Korean War recognizing his service to his country. John was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sedalia. John was a hard worker. After his discharge from the Army, John worked his way up to store manager of the F. W. Woolworth store in Sedalia. He served as store manager until the store was closed due to corporate downsizing. He worked at Town & Country Shoe factory in Sedalia for approximately 21 years. In 1975, he began work at the Lehman-Hayes Wheels plant in Sedalia and worked there until his retirement. Johnnie was the true embodiment of a gentleman. He never spoke ill of anyone and lived an unpretentious life. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and refinishing antique furniture. One of the highlights of Johnnie's life was a fishing trip to Minnesota with his friends and family. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, John William Youse, Sr. and Sallie (Hoard) Youse, and his sister Verna Marie Youse. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Ann Cover and her husband Gary, Clinton; six grandchildren, Cody Broaddus and wife Tasha, Cassie Broaddus, Angie Dick and her husband Justin, Jeremy Cover and his wife Kira, Nic Cover and Chelsea Cover; as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Walter Youse and his wife Lee, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home in Sedalia.
