Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Jan 7 2009 - Johnnie William Youse, 76, died on Jan. 5, 2009, at Golden LivingCenter-Westwood in Clinton after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born on June 5, 1932, to John W. Youse and Sallie (Hoard) Youse. Johnnie lived on the family farm in Green Ridge with his parents, sister Verna Marie Youse, and brother Walter Youse. After graduating from Green Ridge High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War conflict. Johnnie rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge in September 1954. Johnnie was a member of the American Legion Pot 305 in Cole Camp for 46 years. Additionally, in August 2003, John received the Korean Service Medal-One Half Century Tribute for Veterans of the Korean War recognizing his service to his country. John was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sedalia. John was a hard worker. After his discharge from the Army, John worked his way up to store manager of the F. W. Woolworth store in Sedalia. He served as store manager until the store was closed due to corporate downsizing. He worked at Town & Country Shoe factory in Sedalia for approximately 21 years. In 1975, he began work at the Lehman-Hayes Wheels plant in Sedalia and worked there until his retirement. Johnnie was the true embodiment of a gentleman. He never spoke ill of anyone and lived an unpretentious life. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and refinishing antique furniture. One of the highlights of Johnnie's life was a fishing trip to Minnesota with his friends and family. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, John William Youse, Sr. and Sallie (Hoard) Youse, and his sister Verna Marie Youse. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Ann Cover and her husband Gary, Clinton; six grandchildren, Cody Broaddus and wife Tasha, Cassie Broaddus, Angie Dick and her husband Justin, Jeremy Cover and his wife Kira, Nic Cover and Chelsea Cover; as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Walter Youse and his wife Lee, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home in Sedalia.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, October 16, at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton. She was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She had lived in Sedalia for six years before moving to Clinton. She worked for Rival Manufacturing Company in Sedalia. She is survived by her mother, Merle Coonce of Independence; three sons, David Akers of Clinton, Larry Akers of Kansas City and Curtis Yuille of Sweet Springs; three daughters, Robin Mullins and Tina Brown, Sedalia, and Patty Davis, Lansing, Kansas; three brothers, Richard Leakey of Independence, Robert Leakey of Carrollton, John Leakey of Kansas City; two sisters, Marsha Kay Colwell of Trimble and Loretta Sue Srp of South Elgin, Illinois, and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 3, at Sickman Dunning Chapel, under the direction of Consalus Funeral Home. Interment will be in Tebo Cemetery.
