Clinton MO - Ed Zurcher, who lived near Montrose, was struck by a team of horses and killed at the barn of A. H. Harris, of Martinville, Sunday morning about 10:30. Mr. Zurcher, accompanied by C. R. Griffith, both of whom recently moved to the M. M. Crouch place near Montrose from California, came to Mr. Harris' home to look at a team in view of purchasing it. Mr. Harris was not at home so the two men went out to the barn where the team was tied. As the strange men entered the barn the horses became frightened and Mr. Zurcher was struck down and pawned by the team. Mr. Griffith pulled his companion over the manger away from the horses, and in doing this, one horse struck his right arm and slightly grazed it. Help was called and the injured man was brought to Dr. S. W. Woltzen's office in Mr. Griffith's car, and Dr. G. S. Walker was also called. Mr. Zurcher suffered concussion of the brain and internal injuries and died at 3:40 Sunday afternoon without recovering consciousness. Tom Hurst, the undertaker at Deepwater, came after the body. Mr. Zurcher was about 40 years old and is survived by his wife and two sons. His body was taken to Dover, Ohio, for burial.
