Looking for George GUMPERT (b. ca. 1830 in Baden Germany), married Elizabeth Ann BOUTHERS (b. ca. 1860 in Henry Co., MO). He may be related to John Jacob GUMPERT who is my maternal 2 GGF. Jacob came to America in 1859, volunteered in the Civil War 1861. After the war he married and went to Missouri. I found George GUMPERT in Henry Co. and am trying to link him to John Jacob. Don't know any other reason that John would have gone to MO. Four of his children were born there between 1868-1873 named Charles GUMPERT, William GUMPERT, Alice GUMPERT and Henry GUMPERT.

GILLILAND who was born 7/20/1824 in TN, married John Orr McFERRIN of Cass County, Missouri before 1844. had children Louisa, Nancy, Burton, Mary, Izori, and James and she died in Cass Co MO 2/13/1857 five days after the death of her husband. My ancestor, Joseph Salmon McWATERS was born in Clinton, MO†in 1858. His mother, Mary Jane (SALMON) McWATERS wrote a letter from Cedar County, MO to her sister, Rachael Amanda (SALMON) JOURNEY in Henry County, Mo in 1860.†In it she mentions a cousin Mary ATWELL in Henry County.† What is this connection? During the Civil War, Mary Jane's husband dies and their home is burned and the family banished. Mary Jane dies before 1870 leaving nine children orphaned. Perhaps she came to her sister in Henry County, MO or one of her other two sisters nearby who were married to men named CANNON/CANON and HONSSINGER.† One of her daughters marries Thomas Prince CARLETON in Henry County, MO also.† Any information on these Henry County, MO families would be appreciated.

Has anyone come across the mention of Robert A. LESLIE (or LASLIE), a Creek Indian, who came to Henry County around 1860. Leslie got a job teaching school in Clinton, joined the Good Templer Lodge #248 and was elected Secretary. He also joined the Cumberland Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there. In the April 1862 he was taken up by the Provost Marshall on charges of disloyalty and sent to Alton Prison. Petitions on his behalf were sent in by M.S. Peeler (?), French Carder, I.J. Quick, A.K. Whitlow and other citizens of Henry County, and eventually he was released from Alton and he enlisted in the 11th Missouri Cavalry and served until the wars end. Any information about Leslie and his activities would be appreciated greatly. Thank you.

I am interested in the family of Dr. James P. HARPER (b. abt. 1842 in Pickens Co., AL)†who lived at Honey Creek Twnsp in Henry Co., MO in 1881.† His wife, Mary M. De JARNETTE, (b. 1849-1850)†killed Dr. Harper's 6-yr old son, Jimmy, †in 1881.† Jimmie was from a previous marriage to a Mary BROWN (no other info on†her).† Dr. Harper marr. the De JARNETTE woman in Bates Co., MO in Sept. 1878.† They had an infant son, Richard, at the time of Jimmie's death.† I am interested in tracing descendants of Richard P. HARPER.† I have ancestors for Dr. HARPER.

The 1880 US Census, Tebo Twp, Henry County shows Thomas HICKERSON, 24 (b. 1856) his wife Lucy J. 24, their dtr Edith, 1. Also in home is James HICKERSON, 51 (b. 1829) father of Thomas. The Clinton Eye newspaper of March 1886 states Thos. HICKERSON was building a home on the west side of Orchard Ave. in Clinton. I have not found any of this family in Henry Co. Cemeteries. I believe Thomas moved to Kansas City ca. 1900, but have nothing further on James HICKERSON. Any leads on James or Thomas or other family greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for information on Clite (Clitus) Thomas or Sara JONES I have very little information, Clite was married to Heneritta BISHOP and had 2 daughters prior to his marriage to Sara. Heneritta died and one of the daughters died. Clite and Sara had 1 daughter Annie, Sara had a daughter named Emma prior to her and Clites marriage.

I am trying to locate Elmira CHILDERS b 1851 in Clinton. Her parents were George Washington CHILDERS (-res, -ress) and Cassandra YATES. Her siblings were Henry L. K. b 1835, Emily M. L. b 1839, William Huff b Dec 30 1842, Benjamin F. b 1845, Mary Elizabeth b 1848, Elmira b 1851, and my grandfather James Warren b Oct 8 1851. I have located all the people named above except Elmira. Family legend tells me that she married and went to Arkansas. A leter I have says that William Huff made to trips to Arkansas to visit his sister. Any help would be appreciated.

Seeking info on these folks. Believe Anna BANISTER was initially married to Michael ELI and married his brother, Simon, in 1846 after his death. Believe children listed in 1850 census are Michael and Anna's, not Simon and Anna's. Anna's sister Matilda Banister married William ELI. After his death. she returned to Indiana and died in 1896.

I am trying to connect my grandfather, William I. LILE. He was born in Missouri, about 1875. He married Lydia (Lida) McREYNOLDS, in Springfield, and they raised 6 children between 1904 and 1920. When she died, the family moved to Kansas City. My dad used to talk about going in covered wagon to Joplin, to visit his aunt. Can anyone help?

I am looking for information on who Lewis Young SPANGLER married.† He was born in 1885 in Missouri and died in 1918 in Henry County, Missouri.†I have researched the both the 1920 and 1930 census, and I believe it to be either Wilina or Wilma STEELE.† In the 1920 census she is widowed living in Deer Creek, Henry County, Missouri, her name is Wilma SPANGLER.† She has two children Young SPANGLER (my grandfather) b. 11/21/1911 d. 11/24/1987 and his sister, Alice F. b. 6/10/1916.† Also her brother Jack STEELE is living with them, he is single age 38.† They live close by Thomas HOUSTON, who would be Lewis Y. SPANGLER's uncle.† Alice A. HOUSTON married James M. SPANGLER. In the 1930 census she is also the head and her name is Wilina Spangler.† Both Young and Alice SPANGLER are still living with her in Deer Creek, Henry County, Missouri.† The next name on the census page is again Thomas HOUSTON and his wife. From†what†I can figure they were married about 1910, hopefully in Henry†County, Missouri. With my grandfather being named†"Young" and his sister being named "Alice", I find it to coincidental that Lewis Young SPANGLER isn't there father.† Unfortunately, I have no proof and am hoping that you could some how validate this information. I live in†California and have not been able to get back to Missouri to check this out and validate my theory.

I am searching for information about James W. REID who married Emily Jane DUNHAM in Henry Co., MO on Aug 26, 1864. They had a son, John G., born in MO and listed as age 4 in the 1870 census. At that time mily Jane was working as a housekeeper in the home of her sister, Nan PAGE, and no longer living with REID, and I have been unable to track him thus far. Did he, perhaps, die or otherwise disappear during the Civil War? Is it possible they were divorced somewhere? Can someone out there help?

Looking for information on Minerva D. SCROGGINS of Henry Co, MO. I know she was born in Kentucky in 1809 or 1810. the 1845 Henry County Assessor's Book shows her as the owner of 3 cattle (worth $25) and 80 acres of land, possible in Springfield township. She was married to Christopher T. WOODALL on June 27, 1849, by (I believe) William A. Gray. Her husband had 4 children from a previous marriage, who were living with the couple as of the 1850 census of Springfield Twp. Henry Co, MO. She had two children of her own: Harriet Susan (or Susan Harriet), born 1850, and Christopher T. WOODALL, born 10 Sept. 1855. By Jan. 17, 1860, both she and her husband were dead; their minor children were left under the guardianship of L. P. SCROGGINS (Levin?). A Mr. Avery DALTON assumed guardianship of both children on 7 Aug 1865. Specifically, I am looking for information on her place of birth, family (parents, siblings, if she had any), any information concerning her death (date, manner, final resting place, etc.

Brown Cemetery lists a Samuel G. ELDER b. ca 1814 d. 14 Apr 1881 66y 4m 7d. Is it possible that this stone reads "1880"? Samuel and his wife, Jane E. (TAFT) ELDER came to Tebo Twp by the 1870 census and on the 1880 census of Tebo Co lists Jane E. as head of household and shows her as a widow. I would like to know if this is the correct Samuel Elder's burial place. Thank you for your help.
