Philip GOWEN/GOEN died in 1901, Clinton, Henry County, Missouri.† His obituary states he was born in County Cork, Ireland.† His wife was Elizabeth MULLEN/MULLIN, also born in Ireland - not known where.† I believe they had two daughters, Mary and Catherine and two sons, John and James, and I believe they lost two children - no names known. I am seeking any descendants of this couple with the goal of determining where Philip GOWEN originated in Ireland.† I'll be happy to share any information I have regarding this couple.

Gertrude Brandenburg, daughter of A. Y. and Elizabeth LAYTON BRANDENBURG of Greene Township, Polk County, Missouri, married my grandfathher Worthy SHIPLEY. Other sources indicate her name, at the time of her marriage, was BRANDENBURG MATHIS. Does anyone have information that would indicate a her prior marriage? For many years it has been assumed my grandfather was a SHIPLEY, when in fact it could be he was either a JOHNSON (from a DAR source) or a MATHIS (from LDS source).

In the records of the 5th Infantry Regiment, Confederate, at the MO State Archives, is a muster roll that shows a Private Charles SCRIVNER, a resident of Leesville, MO. The remarkable thing about the muster roll is that it shows Scrivner's age as 100! A notation says: "born at the landing of the Mayflower, Plymouth, Mass." I find it difficult to believe that a man of that age would have served in the army. I have searched the website trying to find some record of such an individual in Henry County without success. Does anyone have any information about this man? CC Note: - I guess it's more beliveable than him being about 245 years old at the time of the Civil War, if he were really born at the landing of the Mayflower. - LME

From 1870 there was a family headed by an Elias COTTRELL and including a brother Oliver, George etc. There was also 1870 census transcription in which a name looking like Cobel was transcribed as Cotrel, first name Watson. At this point it appears that this Elias died on county poor farm in St. Clair County. I don't know what became of Oliver or George, however I do know they are the children of a Rueban COTTRELL of Ohio, Illinois and probably Rueban is older son of Elias COTTRELL, Sr. of Chariton County. Watson COTTRELL would be his younger brother and Uncle to Elias and Oliver. Watson and Rueban's brother Elias died at Confederate home in Lafayette County. I would surely like to find some one who has information on these people.

I am looking for information about the first marriage of Charles Yancy TRICE, Jr. C.Y. was born about 1853 or 1854, in Missouri. Family information says that his first wife's name was Parallee Jean Miller STEEN. I don't know if her maiden name was Miller or Steen. I don't know if she was married before she married Trice. In the 1880 census MO, Cooper County, Saline Township, she was 23, born in Kansas. I am estimating then that she was born about 1857. This couple had two children: Harriet Antoinette who married Oliver Sheley, and Odon Charles who married Leone SMITH.

I am searching for information on Israel WOOD who lived in Clinton, Henry Co, MO, from before 1855 to some time after the 1860 census. Regarding SHELBY query by Dwight Haverkom - (your email bounced) - I found 2 or 3 men named Horace Shelby, one even spelled Horris b 1855 but in Kentucky. This man is in Colorado Springs CO census in El Paso County in 1880 census with wife Jennie, age 22 or 23. He is 25. No children. Info was found on the LDS website. Dora Dean passed away in 1927 leaving behind two childrenn while Francis Joseph TATE/TAIT left for Kansas where he later divorced Dora Dean and never claimed the two children, as the family lore passes down.
