Holt County, MO Biography
T. W. MCCOY was born near Hagerstown in Washington Co., Maryland
Aug. 30, 1835. His ancestors had resided in that county for five
generations on a tract of land patented to a member of the family
on the first settlement of that area. Mr. MCCOY was raised in
the county and obtained his education at Hagerstown and vicinity.
He came West in 1857, to Mo. in 1858, then returned to Maryland
where he resided until 1866. He then returned to Mo. and located
in Holt Co. where he engaged in the milling business in the Mo.
River bottomland, a mile from Bigelow, in partnership with his
brother, E. D. MCCOY. He sawed and dealt in lumber in that area
for several years before, in 1872, settling on the land he now
occupies four miles north of Mound City. He has farmed and engaged
in the stock business. In Jan., 1872, he married Laura KEEDY of
St. Joseph, daughter of Dr. Daniel KEEDY, one of the earliest
settlers of that city. Mr. MCCOY'S home farm is composed of 720
acres and he has other land in the Missouri bottom. He is a Democrat
in politics.
