Looking for information on William and Hannah Wingfield. He owned a saloon in Fayette and had a farm 3 miles north of Fayette. My grandmother Dorothy Wingfield Zumsteg lived with them from the time she was 18 until their deaths. Then she later married and she and her husband Frank Zumsteg of Glasgow lived there. The farm or Wingfield Park was sold in about 1960 to
Vera Funk (well-known judge in Howard County and the next farm over.) The census lists William and Hannah from 1900 to 1920. I could not find them in 1890 so am not sure if in Howard County then or not or if I just missed their names. They had come from England around 1870 I believe. My grandmother's sister also lived with them. Her name was Jessie Wingfield. I am pretty sure that she died in England at an early age but will research this further. I am interested in where Hannah and William were buried. I think the Fayette cemetery. They were members of the Episcopal church that was in Fayette. I also would like to find out when they actually bought the farm etc. I think the original home was a log cabin that was later added onto and sided. The house is still there. The lake is still there but I do not think that many of the other outbuildings etc. are there any longer. I have a book from 1905 of Howard County that has a picture of Major Wingfield with a bass caught in the lake (my sister has that bass that was stuffed, mounted, and framed.)I am more than happy to share any information in my possession about Wingfield's. I lived on that farm from 1951 to 1960. My mother, Jessie Zumsteg, and her husband (Leon Roberts) moved to the farm from Columbia to help my grandmother. Please let me know if I can help in any way and let me know where else I might find information.

John T. Stemmons was born in Howard County, MO in 1828. His parents were Stephen Stemmons and Nancy Pipes who are buried in Howard County. John Stemmons married Mildred A. Deering/Dearing in 1863 in Boone County, MO. He served in the Civil War on the Union side. They eventually settled in Montgomery County. I am trying to find the lineage of their niece, Anne E. Stemmons, who appears in a census with them in 1880 in Montgomery County. She may be the child of a sibling of John T. Stemmons. All of his siblings seem to have been born in Howard County, MO. J.T. AMBROSE died 25 March 1916 in Howard County, MO. There is no death certificate listed at the Missouri Department of Health Bureau of Vital Records. Can you advise me as to where I might find his death certificate in Howard County. I know James Thomas AMBROSE died at home, near Lloyds Station, a doctor was in attendance, and there was a scandal about a death bed confession published in several Howard County Newspapers. I would appreciate any advice about an alternative route for finding his death certificate. Sincerely, Judith King

First of all I want to apologise for my bad English. My name is Patrick Lernout. I live in Belgium in the city of Waregem. In our city is the US Miltary Cemetery "Flanders Field". This is a cemetery with soldiers of World War 1. As I am interested in the history of World War 1, I got the idea of writing a book about those soldiers, who gave their lives for our freedom. Of course I need a lot of searching work to do about their lives and I am also looking for (copies of) photos of them.
So, why am I writing this letter to you ? One of the soldiers buried here is DAVIS SAMUEL A Jr. He was from Fayette. I wonder if you could help me with information and photos (again, copies of course) about him. He belonged to the 361st Inf Rgt, 91st division and was killed 1st of november 1918. Thank you in advance Patrick Lernout Drafstraat 15 8790 WAREGEM BELGIUM

I was wondering who I might contact regarding a family which lived in neighboring Saline County and may have had family move to Howard County? I am referring to the KAPELLER Family which lived in Cambridge, Saline County in 1900. They had moved to Missouri by 1869...I am missing some brothers and sisters of Florian Kapeller (sometimes spelled Koepeller).
They left Milwaukee, Wisconsin and settled in Missouri, but I don't know where. If anyone knows of any family members or living descendants, please ask them to contact me.

I am looking for information on an Elizabeth Harrison who was age 16 on the 1860 Howard County census. She was living with a Joshua & Elizabeth Ira. Also it listed another Elizabeth Harrison age 60, not sure if this was the younger Elizabeths mother or possibly her grandmother. I think this Elizabeth age 16 in 1860 is the same Elizabeth listed in 1850, age 6 with her father Ammanuel age 55 from N.M., mother E. age 36 from TN, and her sister A.L. age 6 also, not sure if they were twins or not. But in the 1860 census I do not find Ammanuel Harrison, only the 2 Elizabeths living with the Ira family. Any info on these people is greatly appreciated.
