James Shelby (Jim) Hughes & Daisy Lewis
According to a news story dated 23 Jan 1911 and appearing in the Daily Oklahoman, according to Mr. Hughes the couple were married in Joplin, Missouri, 8 years earlier. This would make the date in 1902 or 1903. Could I please have a look-up for the marriage record. This is the Hughes outlaw of Washita County, OK and the Lewis daughter of Neosho, Newton county, MO.

My GreatGrandfather and his family of siblings lived in Jasper & Dade county MO during the 1840' 50's. I have his Father's name but absolutely nothing for his wife's name.
I have my recently found out that my GGrandfather may have had other siblings I wasn't aware of.
The last name is Boyd. My GGrandfather's complete name was Charles Pinkney Boyd. He had 2 older brothers, Silas Abner & Alfred F. Boyd. Charles would have been born about 1842 in MO. -Silas b. 1831 Tenn - Alfred b. 1836 Misssouri.
Do you think you could steer me into any information on this? I have been looking for around 4 yrs with no clues.
Thank you,
Ed Good

1864 Carthage Firefight
Could you tell me how to get in touch with someone who might know the following?
I have an ancestor who was involved in a Civil War skirmish in 1864 that killed at least five people. The location is described in the 1923 book, Jasper County in the Civil War, by Ward Schranz, as being "a mile east of River Street on the north side of the present Chestnut Street near where is now located the McWilliams brick residence)."
A Google map indicates this would be close to the site of the larger 1861 battle known as the Battle of Carthage. Does this sound like the same site to you? Or, is this later fight familiar to you? The unit involved in 1864 was the 76th Regiment, Enrolled Missouri Militia. It was attacked either by bushwhackers or by a group of farmers angry about their property being taken by the military.
Best Regards,
Don Skinner

Hi,
I see that you have “Poor Farm Records” listed where you need a volunteer to look up information. I was wondering if these Poor Farm Records were from Jasper County Missouri and where those records are located. I have a sister who could go and look up the information bur I’m trying to find out where the Jasper County Poor Farm records are located.
If you have any information you could share I would really appreciate it. I am looking for residents of the Poor Farm for 1909.
Thank you,
Barbara

Hi,
I'm trying to locate a gravestone for my gr-grandfather, John Angenow BROWN, 1842 - 1898. According to his obituary in an unidentified Carthage newspaper: "John A. Brown, a well known old soldier, died unexpectedly last night .... The interment takes place at the G. A. R. burial lot just west of Park cemetery." I will be briefly visiting Buffalo, Missouri next week (10/4 - 10-6) for some family history research and would try to stop by Carthage, to find this gravesite, if I have some reasonable knowledge that it really exists. I am also interested in finding a gravesite for John A. Brown's wife, Clemintine (Hill) Brown who died in Jasper County 5 May 1928.
Can you provide any information about the location of the referenced "G.A.R. burial lot"? Could it be incorporated into the "G.A.R. monument area of Park Cemetery? I don't find either of my names in Findagrave.com in Jasper County. Are there county death records available for 1898 and 1928?
Thanks,
Kent Fox
