Hickory Grove Teachers 1877-1960

Hickory Grove School was located in Post Oak Township in Johnson County, 
Missouri.  The country school was seven miles south of the county seat of 
Warrensburg, Mo.  This was Marr territory.  The following booklet was documented 
by Estil Stone.

A List of the teachers who have taught in the Hickory Grove District No. 53. 
From 1877 to 1956.

This list has been assembled and copied from district clerk record books, 
teachers' registers, and records in the office of the County School 
Superintendent.

There have been from five to eight months of school each year during this period 
of 82yrs.  The total number of teachers employed during this time is 61.  In 
total length of service rendered, the present teacher, Mrs. Stanley Hedges leads 
with 6 years of completed service.  Teachers salaries have increased from $25. 
Per month, paid as late as 1889 up to the present level of $290 per month.  
Qualifications have varied from second grade county certificate up to a college 
degree in Education.
