VARNER N. SHIPPY Varner N. Shippy, 84, Holden, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at his home. He was born January 20, 1916 in Kingsville, Missouri the son of Charles Newton Shippy and Bertha Sophia Plattner Shippy. On December 28, 1962 he married Berdene Lucile Myers Brooks in Elm, Missouri. She survives at the home. Varner farmed since 1944 southwest of Odessa. Varner was a member of the Warrensburg, Missouri American Legion Post #131 and the Holden MO V.F.W. Post #5844. Varner lived in the Elm area his entire life and graduated from Elm High School in 1933. Varner was a member of the Elm Spring Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his wife are four sons and spouses, Wayne and Sharon Shippy, Ernie and Tanya Shippy, Varner and Linda Shippy, Virgil and Hilda Shippy, all of Odessa; a stepson, Gayl and Brenda Brooks, Kingsville; a step daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Brooks, Lee's Summit; a sister and spouse, Edna and Neal Callahan; a sister-in-law, Deva Shippy, Raytown; 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Varner was married to JaNelle Jennings on April 25, 1942 and she preceeded him in death on December 9, 1959. Two brothers, Virgil and Lewis Shippy; on granddaughter and one great granddaughter, also preceded him in death. Funeral services were held August 26, 2000 at the Elm Springs Baptist Church with pastor Bob Hampton officiating. Burial was at Elm Spring Cemetery. Varner was a veteran of WWII serving in China and Burma. Memorial contributions may be made to Elm Spring Cemetery Association, Kingsville, Missouri. Pallbearers were Wayne Shippy, Ernie Shippy, Varner Shippy, Virgil Shippy, Darryl Shippy, and Seth Shippy. Honorary pallbearers were Leslie "Shorty" Jones, Cecil Campbell, Gordon Shafer, and J.R. Brooks. LLOYD EUGENE WYRICK Lloyd Eugene Wyrick, 71, Holden, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2000, at home. He was born August 6, 1929 in Eskridge, Kansas, the son of William Barthel and Christine Mitchell (Reid) Wyrick. He had lived in Eskridge, Kansas, Sibley, and Strasburg, Missouri before moving to Holden in 1959. He married Leora Nadine Smith on April 15, 1956 in New Mexico. She preceded him in death November 27, 1994. Mr. Wyrick was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war. He worked at Armco Steel in Kansas City for 30 years and retired in 1982. He leaves two sons, Roy Wyrick and William Wyrick, both of Holden; one daughter, Eugenia Isenberg, Satanta, KS; two brothers, Wayne Wyrick, Waverly, KS, and Harvey Bittle, Bates City; on sister Lamoyne Frankenfield, Osceola, MO; seven grandchildren; and one great grandson. Also preceding him in death were a son, Mitchell Wyrick, two sisters, Leanna Catt and Eunice Wyrick and one brother, Kenneth Wyrick. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Russell J. Badder officiated. Music was by Bob Pettit. Cremation, August 30, 2000.
