ARTHUR GLENN STIVERSON Arthur Glenn Stiverson, 79, of Holden, formerly of Independence and Odessa passed away Sunday, October 29, 2000 at his home. He had lived in Holden August 1999. Mr. Stiverson was born Tuesday, September 13, 1921 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Curtis Ivra Stiverson and Maude Eva Young Stiverson. He was an army veteran of World War II serving his country from June 10, 1942 - November 5, 1945. He was with H. Company Engineering in North Africa and Italy. Mr. Stiverson was a member of the Mount Washington Baptist Church and life member of VFW Post No. 1000, both of Independence. He was a rewinder for Union Wire and Rope Co. in Kansas City for 31 years, retiring in 1982. He married Doris Catherine Mae Gregory on April 23, 1946 and she preceded him in death on February 23, 1996. He is survived by a daughter, Glenda Jones, Odessa; two sons, Curtiss Stiverson, Kingsville, and Clayton Stiverson, Holden; a sister, Mabel Parker, Shambaugh, Iowa; five granddaughters; four great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. Mr. Stiverson was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Angela Stiverson; four sisters and four brothers. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Rev. S.E. Moore will officiate. Curtiss Stiverson will be the vocalist. Pallbearers will be Curtiss Stiverson, Kathi Baker, Melissa Comstock, Clayton Stiverson, Rhonda Rothman, and Heather Yoder. Honorary pallbearers will be Penny Stiverson, Larry Jones, Brandon Stiverson, Alex Baker, Kyle Comstock, Amber Comstock, Mike Rothman, Lester Comstock, and Nathan Yoder. Interment will be at Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee's Summit, MO, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 5844 and Munday-Hancock American Legion Post #90, both of Holden. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. SHIRLEY M. (MEME) WOLFE Shirley M. (Meme) Wolfe, 59, Holden, Missouri, formerly of Raytown, Missouri, passed away Mondya, October 30, 2000 at her home. She was born Monday, January 27, 1941, in Odessa Missouri, the daughter of Chester Harold Price and Ruth Allene Davis Price. On June 12, 1957 she married Robert G. Wolfe in Miami, Oklahoma. She had worked at Western Electric in Lee's Summit for 17 years and since 1987 she had worked in food service for the Holden School District. Shirley was an active member of First Baptist Church in Holden. She had lived in Holden since 1971. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; three daughters, Debbie Powell and husband Jim, Blairstown, Vicki Watterson and husband Mike, Holden, and Connie Lloyd and husband Alan, Holden; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; her father, Harold Price, Columbus, MO; stepfather Eurie Heard, Higginsville; and one brother, Robert Allen Price, Independence. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Heard, May 18, 1981. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Holden, under the direction of Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Officiants will be Rev. Rader, 86, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2000, at his home. He was born Thursday, September 24, 1914, south of Odessa, Missouri, the son of Ming and Narcissus Ann Brown Rader. Before the war he was engaged in farming and after he had been a car mechanic for Ford Dealerships in Kansas City, Kansas. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving his country from September 1942- November 1945. He was in the 5th Armored Division in the European Theatre attaining the rank of SSGT and receiving the purple heart. He is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Pearl Allen, Holden, Opal Gardener, Kansas City, Kansas, and Alice Marie Stanton and husband Roy, Spring Hill, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lloyd Rader in 1936. Funeral services will be held Thurdsday November 2, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Officiant will be Rev. Leland Holland. Organist will be Debbie Robledo. Pallbearers will be Dale Stanton, Gail Stanton, Christopher Hughes, Larry Allen, and Jeremy Spurgeon. WANDA ROSE WEST Wanda Rose West, 71, Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 27, 2000, at Lee's Summit Community Hospital, Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was born April 3, 1929 in Ohio, Missouri the daughter of James Alfred and Wanda May (Emmerson) Underwood. She had been married to Leroy B. Dykes. On August 25, 1958 she married Leroy Newton West. Mr. West preceded her in death on June 17, 1995. Mrs. West had lived in Lone Jack and Holden, Missouri before moving to Lee's Summit a year and a half ago. She had operated Bartell's Laundry in Blue Springs. She had worked in Highview School for Boys in Jackson County and at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit. Prior to retirement in 1986, she worked eight years at Rupard Manufacturing Company in Blue Springs. She was a member of the Holden, Missouri Congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and of the AARP. Surviving her passing are three sons, Albert West, Holden, James Dykes, Helena, OK, and Bill Dykes, Sibley, MO; three daughters, Eunice Mullikin, Aurora, CO, Leda Craig, Grandview, MO and Irene West, Pleasant Valley, MO; three brothers, James Underwood, Windsor, MO, Bill Underwood, Oak Grove, MO, and Elmer Underwood, Tarsney Lakes, MO; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. MARGARET JOSEPHINE MYERS Margaret Josephine Myers, 82, Warrensburg, Missouri, formerly of the Holden area, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2000, at Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg, Missouri. She was born August 11, 1918, in Johnson County, Missouri, the daughter of Pony and Emma (Colster) Crew. On March 10, 1949, she married Harold Claude Myers in Holden, Missouri. He preceded her in death October 4, 1975. She has lived in Latour, Missouri before moving to Warrensburg two years ago. Mrs. Myers was a member of the Quick City Christian Church, and was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Milton Myers, Holden; two daughters, Marlene Simms, Kingsville, and Marilyn Markworth, Oak Grove; 13 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Myers in 1997; and one sister, Ida Murphy, in 1999. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 29, 2000 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Reverend Richard Morris officiated. Julie Stout was organist. Music included, "Peace in the Valley," "How Great Thou Art," and "Precious Memories." Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriners Hospital or the Children's Mercy Hospital, Cariac Unit. DOLORES I. (BROOKS) SIMMS Dolores I. (Brooks) Simms, 67, passed away at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Hill, MO, on October 24, 2000. Ms. Simms was born in Pittsville, MO, on June 25, 1933, the daughter of Ira and Dorothy Plattner Brooks. She lived most of her life in this area and graduated from Holden High School in 1950. During the 1950's she worked at the Johnson County Courthouse and Farmland Industries in Kansas City. She was a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church and had served as church organist. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Brooks, and two sisters, Alice Brooks, who passed away in infancy, and Maude Adamson. She is survived by two sons, Bruce and Bryan Simms, both of Pleasant Hill, a sister, Mildred Jones, of Warrensburg, 6 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Services were held on Saturday, October 28, at Stanley and Son Funeral Home, the Reverend Jim Richards officiating. Pallbearers were Leslie Brooks, Ron Brooks, Claude Jones, Galen Harmon, Billy Joe Tye, Randy Comer, Charlie Shimel, and Keith Wingard. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Strasburg Baptist Church. BERYL V. LYCAN Beryl V. Lycan, 72 years old, of Glendale, MO, passed away at his home after a battle with kidney disease. He had lived in the St. Louis area with his wife and family since June of 1972. Mr. Lycan was born in Kingsville, MO, on June 8, 1928, the son of Basil and Neva Scott Lycan. He was raised in Holden by his aunt and uncle Bob and Fannie Dillion. He graduated from Holden High School in 1946 and enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served two years at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. Upon honorable discharge, he had achieved rank of corporal. He married Patricia Souther in Iconium, MO, on September 1, 1950. Mr. Lycan retired in 1992 after 22 years with the University of Missouri Extention. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Lycan was the Regional Director of the University of Missouri Extension Services in St. Louis County and East Central Missouri. Prior to his employment with the University of Missouri, Mr. Lycan was a pastor for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Council Bluffs, IA, Washington D.C., and Independence, MO. After graduating from Central Missouri State University in 1951, he was employed by Bendix Corporations in Kansas City until 1962. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Vinson S. Lycan, Bradley D. Lycan and wife Barbara, and Jonathan S. Lycan; two daughters, Melissa L. Frueh and husband, James and Laura J. Lycan. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Alex and Sarah Frueh; a brother, Ernest E. Lycan and wfie Miriam; a niece, Nancy Lycan, and a grand-niece, Rachel Lycan; and cousin Francis Dillon Neff. Hamilton, 77, Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2000, at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2000 at Greenmore Memorial Gardens in Barnett, Missouri.
